سُئِلَ عَنِ الْإِفْطَارِ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ أَوْ بَعْدَهَا قَالَ إِنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ قَوْمٌ يَخْشَى أَنْ يَحْبِسَهُمْ عَنْ عَشَائِهِمْ فَلْيُفْطِرْ مَعَهُمْ وَ إِنْ كَانَ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ فَلْيُصَلِّ وَ لْيُفْطِرْ.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about breaking fast if it is before or after Salat (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘If he (the Imam) is afraid of keeping them from their dinner, first it is breaking fast with them; otherwise, first is Salat (prayer), then it is breaking the fast.’”

"He is to be asked: 'Do you believe that there is any sin upon you for breaking your fast during the month of Ramadan?' If he says 'No,' then it is upon the Imam to kill him. If he says 'Yes,' then it is upon the Imam to punish him severely with beating."

“One who is fasting in the month of Ramadan can brush his teeth whenever he wants; but if one rinses his mouth during the time of obligatory prayers, and water enters his throat, there is nothing upon him, and he can complete his fast. “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one fasting vomits, one is required to make Qada’ (compensatory fast for) that day; and if one feels nausea but does not vomit, one must complete the fast.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a fasting man who applies cupping and oil in his ears. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful except sniffing snuff, which is undesirable.’”
