كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الثَّانِي ع أَسْأَلُهُ أَنْ يُعَلِّمَنِي دُعَاءً فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ تَقُولُ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ وَ أَمْسَيْتَ- اللَّهُ اللَّهُ اللَّهُ رَبِّيَ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ لَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئاً وَ إِنْ زِدْتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ ثُمَّ تَدْعُو بِمَا بَدَا لَكَ فِي حَاجَتِكَ فَهُوَ لِكُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى‌ يَفْعَلُ اللَّهُ ما يَشاءُ[1].

إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلْيَقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي احْتَبَسْتُ نَفْسِي عِنْدَكَ فَاحْتَبِسْهَا فِي مَحَلِّ رِضْوَانِكَ وَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَ إِنْ رَدَدْتَهَا إِلَى بَدَنِي فَارْدُدْهَا مُؤْمِنَةً عَارِفَةً بِحَقِّ أَوْلِيَائِكَ حَتَّى تَتَوَفَّاهَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ.

“When any of you is about to go to your bed you should say, ‘O Lord, I have placed my soul in Your custody, keep it secure in a place that You like, and forgive, and if You return it to my body, return it with belief, and with knowledge of the rights of Your friends until it will die upon such belief.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whenever you are about to sleep in your bed say, “In the name of Allah, I have placed my right side (for Allah) according to the Millah (tradition and culture) of Ibrahim, submitted to the will of Allah and I am not of the pagans.’”

إِذَا قُمْتَ بِاللَّيْلِ مِنْ مَنَامِكَ فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي رَدَّ عَلَيَّ رُوحِي لِأَحْمَدَهُ وَ أَعْبُدَهُ فَإِذَا سَمِعْتَ صَوْتَ الدِّيكِ فَقُلْ- سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ رَبُّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَ الرُّوحِ سَبَقَتْ رَحْمَتُكَ غَضَبَكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ عَمِلْتُ سُوءاً وَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي‌ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ فَإِذَا قُمْتَ فَانْظُرْ فِي آفَاقِ السَّمَاء

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص‌ مَنْ أَرَادَ شَيْئاً مِنْ قِيَامِ اللَّيْلِ وَ أَخَذَ مَضْجَعَهُ فَلْيَقُلْ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُمَّ لَا تُؤْمِنِّي مَكْرَكَ وَ لَا تُنْسِنِي ذِكْرَكَ وَ لَا تَجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ أَقُومُ سَاعَةَ كَذَا وَ كَذَا إِلَّا وَكَّلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِهِ مَلَكاً يُنَبِّهُهُ تِلْكَ السَّاعَةَ.

اسْتَأْذَنْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع فَخَرَجَ إِلَيَّ وَ شَفَتَاهُ تَتَحَرَّكَانِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ فَقَالَ أَ فَطَنْتَ لِذَلِكَ يَا ثُمَالِيُّ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ قَالَ إِنِّي وَ اللَّهِ تَكَلَّمْتُ بِكَلَامٍ مَا تَكَلَّمَ بِهِ أَحَدٌ قَطُّ إِلَّا كَفَاهُ اللَّهُ مَا أَهَمَّهُ مِنْ أَمْرِ دُنْيَاهُ وَ آخِرَتِهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ أَخْبِرْنِي بِهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ- بِسْمِ ا

“In the name of Allah, enough for me is Allah, I place my trust in Allah. O Lord, I ask You to grant me all good in my affairs. I seek protection with You against the humiliation in this world and of torment in the next life,” Allah will suffice him in all that is important to him of worldly or of hereafter.’”

“My father when coming out of his house would say, ‘(I begin) in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. I have come out by means and power of Allah and not by my own means and power, but, O Lord, by Your power and means, in search for sustenance from You, so grant me sustenance in good health.’”

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع لَقَدِ اسْتَبْطَأْتُ الرِّزْقَ فَغَضِبَ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَكَفَّلْتَ بِرِزْقِي وَ رِزْقِ كُلِّ دَابَّةٍ يَا خَيْرَ مَدْعُوٍّ وَ يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ أَعْطَى وَ يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ سُئِلَ وَ يَا أَفْضَلَ مُرْتَجًى افْعَلْ بِي كَذَا وَ كَذَا[2].
