Two Rak‘at salat (Prayer) after Tawaf; the Time for and Recitation of It and Prayers

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى ع يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْ طَوَافِ الْفَرِيضَةِ بِحِيَالِ الْمَقَامِ قَرِيباً مِنْ ظِلَالِ الْمَسْجِدِ[3].

“I saw abu al-Hassan, Musa (a.s.), performing the two Rak‘at Salat (prayer) after obligatory Tawaf in front of Maqam (station) of Ibrahim ‘Alayhi al-Salam, near the shadow of the Masjid.”

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنْ رَجُلٍ طَافَ طَوَافَ الْفَرِيضَةِ وَ فَرَغَ مِنْ طَوَافِهِ حِينَ غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ قَالَ وَجَبَتْ عَلَيْهِ تِلْكَ السَّاعَةَ الرَّكْعَتَانِ فَلْيُصَلِّهِمَا قَبْلَ الْمَغْرِبِ.

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about a man who performs obligatory Tawaf and completes it at sunset. He (the Imam) said, ‘At that hour two Rak‘at Salat (prayer) become obligatory on him and he must perform them before sunset.’”

مَا رَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ أَخَذُوا عَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَ الْحُسَيْنِ ع إِلَّا الصَّلَاةَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ وَ بَعْدَ الْغَدَاةِ فِي طَوَافِ الْفَرِيضَةِ[1].

“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘I do not see people follow al-Hassan and al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, in Salat (prayer) except Salat (prayer) after al-‘Asr (sunset) and after the morning (sunrise) in obligatory Tawaf.’”

قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا ع‌ يُصَلِّي الرَّجُلُ رَكْعَتَيِ الطَّوَافِ طَوَافِ الْفَرِيضَةِ وَ النَّافِلَةِ- بِ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَ قُلْ يا أَيُّهَا الْكافِرُونَ‌.

“One of the two Imam, (abu Ja’far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘Man should perform the two Rak‘at Salat (prayer) after obligatory or optional Tawaf with Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad and Surah (Chapter) 109.’”

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَطُوفُ الطَّوَافَ الْوَاجِبَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ أَ يُصَلِّي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ حِينَ يَفْرُغُ مِنْ طَوَافِهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ أَ مَا بَلَغَكَ قَوْلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ لَا تَمْنَعُوا النَّاسَ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَتَمْنَعُوهُمْ مِنَ الطَّوَافِ.

“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who performs obligatory Tawaf after al-‘ Asr; if he can perform the two Rak‘at Salat (prayer) after Tawaf when he completes his Tawaf. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, he can do so. Has it not come to your notice that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muha

لَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْ طَوَافِ الْفَرِيضَةِ إِلَّا عِنْدَ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ع فَأَمَّا التَّطَوُّعُ فَحَيْثُ شِئْتَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ.

‘It is not proper for one to perform the two Rak‘at Salat (prayer) after an obligatory Tawaf anywhere other than near Maqam (station) of Ibrahim ‘Alayhi al-Salam; however, the two Rak‘at Salat (prayer) after optional Tawaf can be performed anywhere in the Masjid.’”

قُلْتُ لَهُ إِنِّي طُفْتُ أَرْبَعَةَ أَسَابِيعَ فَأَعْيَيْتُ أَ فَأُصَلِّي رَكَعَاتِهَا وَ أَنَا جَالِسٌ قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ فَكَيْفَ يُصَلِّي الرَّجُلُ إِذَا اعْتَلَّ وَ وَجَدَ فَتْرَةً صَلَاةَ اللَّيْلِ جَالِساً وَ هَذَا لَا يُصَلِّي قَالَ فَقَالَ يَسْتَقِيمُ أَنْ تَطُوفَ‌[1] وَ أَنْتَ جَالِسٌ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَصَلِّ وَ أَنْتَ قَائِمٌ.

“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about my performing Tawaf in which after the fourth round of walking around the House I became tired: if I could perform its two Rak‘at Salat (prayer) in a sitting position.
