What a Person Should Say Upon Waking From Sleep

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قَالَ بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيَا وَ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ فَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ قَالَ- الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانِي بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنِي‌ وَ إِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ.

Hadith.1387 - When the Messenger of Allah (sw) would go to his bed, he would say: Bismika Allahumma ahya wa bismika amoot "In Your name, O’ Allah (swt), I live, and in Your name, I die." إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ‌[1] فَلْيَقُلْ- سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ النَّبِيِّينَ وَ إِلَهِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَ رَبِّ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي‌ يُحْيِ الْمَوْتى‌ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى صَدَقَ عَبْدِي وَ شَكَرَ.

وَ رَوَى عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ آخِرَ اللَّيْلِ رَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ حَتَّى يَسْمَعَ أَهْلُ الدَّارِ وَ يَقُولُ- اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى هَوْلِ الْمُطَّلَعِ وَ وَسِّعْ عَلَيَّ الْمَضْجَعَ‌[2] وَ ارْزُقْنِي خَيْرَ مَا قَبْلَ الْمَوْتِ وَ ارْزُقْنِي خَيْرَ مَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ.

لَعَلَّكَ تَرَى أَنَّ الْقَوْمَ لَمْ يَكُونُوا يَنَامُونَ فَقُلْتُ اللَّهُ وَ رَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ فَقَالَ لَا بُدَّ لِهَذَا الْبَدَنِ أَنْ تُرِيحَهُ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ نَفْسُهُ فَإِذَا خَرَجَ النَّفْسُ اسْتَرَاحَ الْبَدَنُ وَ رَجَعَتِ الرُّوحُ فِيهِ وَ فِيهِ قُوَّةٌ عَلَى الْعَمَلِ فَإِنَّمَا ذَكَرَهُمْ فَقَالَ- تَتَجافى‌ جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضاجِعِ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ خَوْفاً وَ طَمَعاً أُنْزِلَتْ فِي أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِ
