سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ اسْتَعِينُوا بِبَعْضِ هَذِهِ عَلَى هَذِهِ وَ لَا تَكُونُوا كُلُولًا عَلَى النَّاسِ.
‘You should use certain items of these resources to overcome other tasks and do not become a burden on people.’”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ اسْتَعِينُوا بِبَعْضِ هَذِهِ عَلَى هَذِهِ وَ لَا تَكُونُوا كُلُولًا عَلَى النَّاسِ.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ أَلْقَى كَلَّهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Condemned is one who shifts his burden over on other people.’”
نِعْمَ الْعَوْنُ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى الْآخِرَةِ.
“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The worldly resources are best means to overcome the difficulties of the next life.”’
نِعْمَ الْعَوْنُ عَلَى الْآخِرَةِ الدُّنْيَا.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the worldly resources are best means to overcome the difficulties of the next life.”
قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا لَنَطْلُبُ الدُّنْيَا وَ نُحِبُّ أَنْ نُؤْتَاهَا فَقَالَ تُحِبُّ أَنْ تَصْنَعَ بِهَا مَا ذَا قَالَ أَعُودُ بِهَا عَلَى نَفْسِي وَ عِيَالِي وَ أَصِلُ بِهَا وَ أَتَصَدَّقُ بِهَا وَ أَحُجُّ وَ أَعْتَمِرُ فَقَالَ ع لَيْسَ هَذَا طَلَبَ الدُّنْيَا هَذَا طَلَبُ الْآخِرَةِ.
10. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim from ‘Abd Allah ibn abu Ya’fur who has said the following: “A man once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘We, by Allah, ask for the worldly things and we love to receive worldly gains.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘What do you
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع غِنًى يَحْجُزُكَ عَنِ الظُّلْمِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ فَقْرٍ يَحْمِلُكَ عَلَى الْإِثْمِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once said, ‘A wealth that keeps you away from injustice is better than poverty which leads you to commit sins.’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص يُصْبِحُ الْمُؤْمِنُ أَوْ يُمْسِي عَلَى ثَكَلٍ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ أَوْ يُمْسِيَ عَلَى حَرَبٍ فَنَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْحَرَبِ[1].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘A believer’s spending days and nights with suffering from the losses of his loved ones is better than his spending days and nights in the state of war.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي الْخُبْزِ وَ لَا تُفَرِّقْ بَيْنَنَا وَ بَيْنَهُ فَلَوْ لَا الْخُبْزُ مَا صَلَّيْنَا وَ لَا صُمْنَا وَ لَا أَدَّيْنَا فَرَائِضَ رَبِّنَا.
“The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘O Allah, grant us blessings with our loaves of bread and do not take them away from us. Without bread we cannot perform Salat (prayer) or fast, perform our obligations toward our Lord.’”
نِعْمَ الْعَوْنُ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى طَلَبِ الْآخِرَةِ.
“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘The worldly help in one’s quest for success in the hereafter is the best help.’”
نِعْمَ الْعَوْنُ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى الْآخِرَةِ.

مَنْ طَلَبَ [الرِّزْقَ فِي] الدُّنْيَا اسْتِعْفَافاً عَنِ النَّاسِ وَ تَوْسِيعاً عَلَى أَهْلِهِ وَ تَعَطُّفاً عَلَى جَارِهِ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ وَجْهُهُ مِثْلُ الْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ.
“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said that one who works to earn his sustenance in this world so he would not need to spread his hands before people for help, to better the living conditions of his family and to show kindness to his neighbors will, on the Judgment Day, go before Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, with his fac
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ أَلَا إِنَّ الرُّوحَ الْأَمِينَ نَفَثَ فِي رُوعِي أَنَّهُ لَا تَمُوتُ نَفْسٌ حَتَّى تَسْتَكْمِلَ رِزْقَهَا فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ أَجْمِلُوا فِي الطَّلَبِ وَ لَا يَحْمِلَنَّكُمُ اسْتِبْطَاءُ شَيْءٍ مِنَ الرِّزْقِ أَنْ تَطْلُبُوهُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى قَسَمَ الْأَرْزَاقَ بَيْنَ خَلْقِهِ حَلَالًا وَ لَمْ يَ
‘The Messenger of Allah during his farewell Hajj said, ‘The trustworthy spirit has inspired my understanding that no soul dies before its sustenance is complete (depleted). You must maintain piety before Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, be meticulous in your work to make a living. You must not allow procrastination
قَالَ أَبِي ع لِبَعْضِ وُلْدِهِ إِيَّاكَ وَ الْكَسَلَ وَ الضَّجَرَ فَإِنَّهُمَا يَمْنَعَانِكَ مِنْ حَظِّكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ.

Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from ibn Mahbub from Sa‘d ibn abu Khalaf from abu al-Hassan, Musa, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, Musa has said, ‘My father, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said to a certain one of his sons, “Beware of laziness and impatience; these two can deprive you of your share
مَنْ كَسِلَ عَنْ طَهُورِهِ وَ صَلَاتِهِ فَلَيْسَ فِيهِ خَيْرٌ لِأَمْرِ آخِرَتِهِ وَ مَنْ كَسِلَ عَمَّا يُصْلِحُ بِهِ أَمْرَ مَعِيشَتِهِ فَلَيْسَ فِيهِ خَيْرٌ لِأَمْرِ دُنْيَاهُ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one feels lazy to cleansing himself and to take wudu’ for Salat (prayer), there is nothing good in him in regards to his affairs in the hereafter. One who feels lazy in organizing his living conditions, there is nothing good in him for his worldly life.’”
إِنِّي لَأُبْغِضُ الرَّجُلَ أَوْ أُبْغِضُ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَكُونَ كَسْلَاناً [كَسْلَانَ] عَنْ أَمْرِ دُنْيَاهُ وَ مَنْ كَسِلَ عَنْ أَمْرِ دُنْيَاهُ فَهُوَ عَنْ أَمْرِ آخِرَتِهِ أَكْسَلُ.
“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘I dislike a man -or dislike for a man- who is lazy in his worldly affairs. One who is lazy in his worldly affairs is lazier in the affairs of his hereafter.’”
إِنَّ فِي حِكْمَةِ آلِ دَاوُدَ يَنْبَغِي لِلْمُسْلِمِ الْعَاقِلِ أَنْ لَا يُرَى ظَاعِناً[1] إِلَّا فِي ثَلَاثٍ مَرَمَّةٍ لِمَعَاشٍ أَوْ تَزَوُّدٍ لِمَعَادٍ أَوْ لَذَّةٍ فِي غَيْرِ ذَاتِ مُحَرَّمٍ وَ يَنْبَغِي لِلْمُسْلِمِ الْعَاقِلِ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ سَاعَةٌ يُفْضِي بِهَا إِلَى عَمَلِهِ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ سَاعَةٌ يُلَاقِي إِخْوَانَهُ الَّذِينَ يُفَاوِضُهُمْ وَ يُفَاوِضُونَهُ فِي أَمْر
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is in the wisdom of Ale (family) Dawud that a reasonable Muslim should not travel unless it is for three kinds of tasks: amending one’s means of living, supplies for the hereafter or enjoyment with lawful matters. A reasonable Muslim should assign certain hours of his time to work
إِيَّاكُمْ وَ الدَّيْنَ فَإِنَّهُ مَذَلَّةٌ بِالنَّهَارِ وَ مَهَمَّةٌ بِاللَّيْلِ وَ قَضَاءٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ قَضَاءٌ فِي الْآخِرَةِ.
‘Beware of debts; it humiliates during the day and causes sadness during the night and it is payable both in this world and in the hereafter.’”
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِذْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا فَقَالَ لَهُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ إِنَّهُ رُبَّمَا أَصَابَ الرَّجُلَ مِنَّا الضَّيْقُ أَوِ الشِّدَّةُ فَيُدْعَى إِلَى الْبِنَاءِ يَبْنِيهِ أَوِ النَّهَرِ يَكْرِيهِ[2] أَوِ الْمُسَنَّاةِ يُصْلِحُهَا فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَا أُحِبُّ أَنِّي عَقَدْتُ لَهُمْ عُقْدَةً أَوْ وَكَيْتُ لَهُمْ وِكَاءً[3] وَ إِنَّ
‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, one of us may face hardship and straitened conditions and is called to construct a building, work a canal or a dam. What is your decision in such case? He (the Imam) replied, ‘I do not like it. I have knotted for them a knot and tied down the opening end of the bag of ‘no’. It is no a
سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ جَبَّارٍ إِلَّا وَ مَعَهُ مُؤْمِنٌ يَدْفَعُ اللَّهُ بِهِ عَنِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَ هُوَ أَقَلُّهُمْ حَظّاً فِي الْآخِرَةِ يَعْنِي أَقَلَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ حَظّاً لِصُحْبَةِ الْجَبَّارِ.
“I once heard abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘With every tyrant there is a believing person with whom Allah defends the believing people, and he (such believing person) receives the least of rewards in the next life because of his association with the tyrant.’”
بَعَثَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع غُلَاماً يَشْتَرِي لَهُ بَيْضاً فَأَخَذَ الْغُلَامُ بَيْضَةً أَوْ بَيْضَتَيْنِ فَقَامَرَ بِهَا فَلَمَّا أَتَى بِهِ أَكَلَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ مَوْلًى لَهُ إِنَّ فِيهِ مِنَ الْقِمَارِ قَالَ فَدَعَا بِطَشْتٍ فَتَقَيَّأَهُ.

A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from all from ibn Mahbub from Yunus ibn Ya’qub from ‘Abd al-Hamid ibn Sa‘id who has said the following: “Once, abu al-Hassan ‘Alayhi al-Salam, sent one of the slaves to buy eggs for him. The slave took one or two eggs
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَوْعَدَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي مَالِ الْيَتِيمِ بِعُقُوبَتَيْنِ إِحْدَاهُمَا عُقُوبَةُ الْآخِرَةِ النَّارُ وَ أَمَّا عُقُوبَةُ الدُّنْيَا فَقَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- وَ لْيَخْشَ الَّذِينَ لَوْ تَرَكُوا مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّةً ضِعافاً خافُوا عَلَيْهِمْ الْآيَةَ[1] يَعْنِي لِيَخْشَ أَنْ أَخْلُفَهُ فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِ كَمَا صَنَعَ بِهَؤُلَاءِ الْيَتَامَى.
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has issued two kinds of warnings about consuming properties of orphans. One is the suffering by the fire in the next life
أَيُّمَا عَبْدٍ أَقَالَ مُسْلِماً فِي بَيْعٍ أَقَالَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَثْرَتَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ[3].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one accepts a Muslim’s request to return a merchandise Allah, most High, on the Day of Judgment (returns) reduces his sins.’”
ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا يَنْظُرُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى إِلَيْهِمْ- يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَحَدُهُمْ رَجُلٌ اتَّخَذَ اللَّهَ بِضَاعَةً لَا يَشْتَرِي إِلَّا بِيَمِينٍ وَ لَا يَبِيعُ إِلَّا بِيَمِينٍ.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Muhammad ibn Tsa from ‘Ubayd Allah al- Dihqan from Durust ibn abu Mansur from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, Musa (a.s.), has said, ‘On the Day of Judgment, Allah, most High, will not look to three kin
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ رَجُلٍ أَسْلَفْتُهُ دَرَاهِمَ فِي طَعَامٍ فَلَمَّا حَلَّ طَعَامِي عَلَيْهِ بَعَثَ إِلَيَّ بِدَرَاهِمَ فَقَالَ اشْتَرِ لِنَفْسِكَ طَعَاماً وَ اسْتَوْفِ حَقَّكَ قَالَ أَرَى أَنْ يُوَلَّى ذَلِكَ غَيْرُكَ وَ تَقُومَ مَعَهُ حَتَّى تَقْبِضَ الَّذِي لَكَ وَ لَا تَتَوَلَّى أَنْتَ شِرَاهُ[2].
“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man to whom I made advance payment for foodstuff. When the time arrived he sent to me dirhams. He (the Imam) said, ‘Buy foodstuff for yourself and compensate for your right.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘I deem it proper that you appoint som
مَنِ اشْتَرَى طَعَامَ قَوْمٍ وَ هُمْ لَهُ كَارِهُونَ قُصَّ لَهُمْ مِنْ لَحْمِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one buys the foodstuff of a people who dislike such purchase, on the Day of Judgment it will be recovered for them from his flesh.’”
سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِلَى صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ فَاسْتَعَارَ مِنْهُ سَبْعِينَ دِرْعاً بِأَطْرَاقِهَا[1] قَالَ فَقَالَ أَ غَصْباً يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص بَلْ عَارِيَّةٌ مَضْمُونَةٌ.
“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, sent a message to Safwan ibn ‘Umayyah asking him to borrow seventy pieces of coats of arms with their helmets. He asked, ‘Is it forcibly, O Muhammad?’ T
سُئِلَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ جَمَّالٍ اسْتُكْرِيَ مِنْهُ إِبِلٌ وَ بُعِثَ مَعَهُ بِزَيْتٍ إِلَى أَرْضٍ فَزَعَمَ أَنَّ بَعْضَ زِقَاقِ الزَّيْتِ انْخَرَقَ فَأَهْرَاقَ مَا فِيهِ[1] فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ إِنْ شَاءَ أَخَذَ الزَّيْتَ وَ قَالَ إِنَّهُ انْخَرَقَ وَ لَكِنَّهُ لَا يُصَدَّقُ إِلَّا بِبَيِّنَةٍ عَادِلَةٍ[2].
“Once abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked about the case of a man who hired a camel man to transport oil to another location and he thought that certain skin sacks were damaged and oil was lost. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he likes he can accept the oil.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Even if it is damaged he is not considered truthf
قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع الرَّجُلُ يَكُونُ لِي عَلَيْهِ الدَّرَاهِمُ فَيُعْطِينِي الْمُكْحُلَةَ فَقَالَ الْفِضَّةُ بِالْفِضَّةِ وَ مَا كَانَ مِنْ كُحْلٍ فَهُوَ دَيْنٌ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى يَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ.
“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who owed me a certain amount of dirham and gave me a container of al-Kohl. He (the Imam) said, ‘Silver is for silver and al-Kohl in it is a debt on him until he returns it to you on the Day of Judgment.’”
إِذَا كَانَ لِرَجُلٍ عَلَى رَجُلٍ دَيْنٌ فَمَطَلَهُ حَتَّى مَاتَ ثُمَّ صَالَحَ وَرَثَتَهُ عَلَى شَيْءٍ فَالَّذِي أَخَذَتْهُ الْوَرَثَةُ لَهُمْ وَ مَا بَقِيَ فَلِلْمَيِّتِ- حَتَّى يَسْتَوْفِيَهُ مِنْهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ وَ إِنْ هُوَ لَمْ يُصَالِحْهُمْ عَلَى شَيْءٍ حَتَّى مَاتَ وَ لَمْ يَقْضِ عَنْهُ فَهُوَ كُلُّهُ لِلْمَيِّتِ يَأْخُذُهُ بِهِ.
“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ’If one owes a certain amount of debts to another person and he delays payment until the creditor dies and then he reaches a settlement with such person’s heirs whatever they receive belongs to them and the remaining belongs to the deceased who will acquire from him in the next life; b
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ الزَّارِعُونَ كُنُوزُ الْأَنَامِ يَزْرَعُونَ طَيِّباً أَخْرَجَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ هُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَحْسَنُ النَّاسِ مَقَاماً وَ أَقْرَبُهُمْ مَنْزِلَةً يُدْعَوْنَ الْمُبَارَكِينَ.
“I once heard abu £ Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ’Farmers are the mines of living creatures. They farm goodness that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, makes to grow and on the Day of Judgment they will have the best position and the closest place and they are called the blessed ones.’”
أَنَّ أَبَاهُ ع حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص أَعْطَى خَيْبَرَ بِالنِّصْفِ أَرْضَهَا وَ نَخْلَهَا فَلَمَّا أَدْرَكَتِ الثَّمَرَةُ بَعَثَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ رَوَاحَةَ فَقَوَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ قِيمَةً فَقَالَ لَهُمْ إِمَّا أَنْ تَأْخُذُوهُ وَ تُعْطُونِي نِصْفَ الثَّمَنِ وَ إِمَّا أَنْ أُعْطِيَكُمْ نِصْفَ الثَّمَنِ وَ آخُذَهُ فَقَالُوا بِهَذَا[3] قَامَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَ الْأَرْضُ.
“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), informed me that his father (a.s.), has narrated that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, gave the land of Khaybar and its palm trees for half. When fruits ripened he (the Messenger of Allah) delegated ‘Abd Allah
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ص لَمَّا افْتَتَحَ خَيْبَرَ تَرَكَهَا فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ عَلَى النِّصْفِ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَتِ الثَّمَرَةُ بَعَثَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ رَوَاحَةَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَخَرَصَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَجَاءُوا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ص فَقَالُوا لَهُ إِنَّهُ قَدْ زَادَ عَلَيْنَا فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ مَا يَقُولُ هَؤُلَاءِ قَالَ قَدْ خَرَصْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِشَيْءٍ فَإِنْ شَاءُوا يَأ
‘When the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liberated Khaybar he left it in their hand for half. When fruits ripened he (the Messenger of Allah) delegated ‘Abd Allah ibn Rawahah who estimated the value and they came to the Holy Prophet, and said
مَنْ كانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَ الْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلَا يَسْتَعْمِلَنَّ أَجِيراً حَتَّى يُعْلِمَهُ مَا أَجْرُهُ[1] وَ مَنِ اسْتَأْجَرَ أَجِيراً ثُمَّ حَبَسَهُ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ يَبُوءُ بِإِثْمِهِ وَ إِنْ هُوَ لَمْ يَحْبِسْهُ اشْتَرَكَا فِي الْأَجْرِ.

قُلْتُ لَهُ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- وَ داوُدَ وَ سُلَيْمانَ إِذْ يَحْكُمانِ فِي الْحَرْثِ[1] قُلْتُ حِينَ حَكَمَا فِي الْحَرْثِ كَانَتْ قَضِيَّةً وَاحِدَةً فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ أَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّينَ قَبْلَ دَاوُدَ إِلَى أَنْ بَعَثَ اللَّهُ دَاوُدَ أَيُّ غَنَمٍ نَفَشَتْ[2] فِي الْحَرْثِ فَلِصَاحِبِ الْحَرْثِ رِقَابُ الْغَنَمِ وَ لَا يَكُونُ النَّفْشُ إِلَّا بِاللَّيْلِ فَإِنَّ عَ
“I once said abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘What is the meaning of the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, “Dawud and Sulayman who issued judgment about the plantation.’” I asked, ‘Was it one issue about which they gave judgment?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, had sent revelation to the p
كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ص خَلِيطٌ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَلَمَّا بُعِثَ ع لَقِيَهُ خَلِيطُهُ فَقَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ص جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ مِنْ خَلِيطٍ خَيْراً فَقَدْ كُنْتَ تُوَاتِي وَ لَا تُمَارِي فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ص وَ أَنْتَ فَجَزَاكَ اللَّهُ مِنْ خَلِيطٍ خَيْراً فَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرُدُّ رِبْحاً وَ لَا تُمْسِكُ ضِرْساً[2].

كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَضَاقَ ضَيْقاً شَدِيداً وَ اشْتَدَّتْ حَالُهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع اذْهَبْ فَخُذْ حَانُوتاً فِي السُّوقِ وَ ابْسُطْ بِسَاطاً وَ لْيَكُنْ عِنْدَكَ جَرَّةٌ مِنْ مَاءٍ وَ الْزَمْ بَابَ حَانُوتِكَ قَالَ فَفَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ فَمَكَثَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَدِمَتْ رِفْقَةٌ مِنْ مِصْرَ فَأَلْقَوْا مَتَاعَهُمْ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ عِنْدَ مَعْرِفَتِهِ[4] و

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع يَقُولُ كَانَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص مُؤْمِنٌ فَقِيرٌ شَدِيدُ الْحَاجَةِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الصُّفَّةِ وَ كَانَ مُلَازِماً لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص عِنْدَ مَوَاقِيتِ الصَّلَاةِ كُلِّهَا لَا يَفْقِدُهُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْهَا وَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص يَرِقُّ لَهُ وَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى حَاجَتِهِ وَ غُرْبَتِهِ فَيَقُولُ يَا سَعْدُ لَوْ قَدْ جَاءَنِي شَيْءٌ لَأَغْنَيْتُكَ قَالَ فَأَبْطَأَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى ر
“I once heard abu Ja‘far (a.s.), saying, ‘During the time of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, there was a believing man, poor and very needy of the people of the platform (in front of Masjid). سَاءَتْ حَالِي فَكَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع[2] فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَدِمْ قِرَاءَةَ- إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنا نُوحاً إِلى قَوْمِهِ[3] قَالَ فَقَرَأْتُهَا حَوْلًا فَلَمْ أَرَ شَيْئاً فَكَتَبْتُ إِلَيْهِ أُخْبِرُهُ بِسُوءِ حَالِي وَ أَنِّي قَدْ قَرَأْتُ- إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنا نُوحاً إِلى قَوْمِهِ حَوْلًا كَمَا أَمَرْتَنِي وَ لَمْ أَرَ شَيْئاً قَالَ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ قَدْ وَفَى لَكَ الْحَوْلُ فَانْتَقِلْ مِنْهَا إِلَى قِرَاء
“I faced a difficult condition and wrote to abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about it and he (the Imam) wrote to me, ‘Continue reading, “We sent Noah to his people ... to the end.’” (Chapter 71) I read it for one year but did not see any change. قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَا تَلَذَّذَ النَّاسُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ بِلَذَّةٍ أَكْثَرَ لَهُمْ مِنْ لَذَّةِ النِّسَاءِ وَ هُوَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- زُيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ حُبُّ الشَّهَواتِ مِنَ النِّساءِ وَ الْبَنِينَ إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ[5] ثُمَّ قَالَ وَ إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ مَا يَتَلَذَّذُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ أَشْهَى عِنْدَهُمْ مِنَ النِّكَاحِ لَا طَعَامٍ وَ لَا شَرَابٍ.
‘The most enjoyable thing people experience in this world and in the hereafter is enjoyment with women and it is in the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘The love and enjoyment for women and children is made attractive for people.’ (3:13) He (the Imam) then said, ‘People of paradise will not enjoy from any
قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّ صَاحِبَتِي هَلَكَتْ وَ كَانَتْ لِي مُوَافِقَةً وَ قَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَتَزَوَّجَ فَقَالَ لِيَ انْظُرْ أَيْنَ تَضَعُ نَفْسَكَ وَ مَنْ تُشْرِكُهُ فِي مَالِكَ وَ تُطْلِعُهُ عَلَى دِينِكَ وَ سِرِّكَ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلًا فَبِكْراً تُنْسَبُ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ وَ إِلَى حُسْنِ الْخُلُقِ وَ اعْلَمْ أَنَّهُنَّ كَمَا قَالَ أَلَا إِنَّ النِّسَاءَ خُلِقْنَ شَتَّى فَمِنْهُنَّ الْغَن
“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘My wife who lived in complete harmony with me has died and I want to marry.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Think where you want to place yourself and whom you are making your partner in your assets, inform of your religion and secrets. If you must marry find a virgin who is spoken of with
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ إِذَا أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَجْمَعَ لِلْمُسْلِمِ خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ جَعَلْتُ لَهُ قَلْباً خَاشِعاً وَ لِسَاناً ذَاكِراً وَ جَسَداً عَلَى الْبَلَاءِ صَابِراً وَ زَوْجَةً مُؤْمِنَةً تَسُرُّهُ إِذَا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا وَ تَحْفَظُهُ إِذَا غَابَ عَنْهَا فِي نَفْسِهَا وَ مَالِهِ.

ثَلَاثَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ فِيهَا رَاحَةٌ دَارٌ وَاسِعَةٌ تُوَارِي عَوْرَتَهُ وَ سُوءَ حَالِهِ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَ امْرَأَةٌ صَالِحَةٌ تُعِينُهُ عَلَى أَمْرِ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ وَ ابْنَةٌ يُخْرِجُهَا إِمَّا بِمَوْتٍ أَوْ بِتَزْوِيجٍ.
‘Three issues provide comfort for a believing person: a spacious house which provides privacy and in bad condition keeps him out of the sight of people, a virtuous wife who helps him in his worldly affairs and those of the life hereafter and a daughter whom he escorts out of the house on her death or on her wedding.’”
مَنْ زَوَّجَ أَعْزَبَ كَانَ مِمَّنْ يَنْظُرُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One who arranges a marriage for an unmarried person is of those to whom Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, will look on Day of Judgment.’”
جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّ لِي ابْنَةَ عَمٍّ قَدْ رَضِيتُ جَمَالَهَا وَ حُسْنَهَا وَ دِينَهَا وَ لَكِنَّهَا عَاقِرٌ فَقَالَ لَا تَزَوَّجْهَا إِنَّ يُوسُفَ بْنَ يَعْقُوبَ لَقِيَ أَخَاهُ فَقَالَ يَا أَخِي كَيْفَ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَتَزَوَّجَ النِّسَاءَ بَعْدِي فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي أَمَرَنِي وَ قَالَ إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ لَكَ ذُرِّيَّةٌ تُثْقِلُ الْأَرْضَ بِالتَّسْبِيحِ
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Once a man came to the Messenger of Allah and said, “O the Holy Prophet of Allah, I have the daughter of an uncle whose beauty, goodness and religion I like; but she is barren.’” He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘You must not marry her; Yusuf after meeting his brother asked him, “How
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص تَزَوَّجُوا بِكْراً وَلُوداً وَ لَا تَزَوَّجُوا حَسْنَاءَ جَمِيلَةً عَاقِراً فَإِنِّي أُبَاهِي بِكُمُ الْأُمَمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ.
“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must marry virgin and child bearing women, but you must not marry good a looking but barren woman because I will express pride because of you among nati
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لِرَجُلٍ تَزَوَّجْهَا سَوْءَاءَ وَلُوداً وَ لَا تَزَوَّجْهَا حَسْنَاءَ عَاقِراً فَإِنِّي مُبَاهٍ بِكُمُ الْأُمَمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَ وَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ الْوِلْدَانَ تَحْتَ الْعَرْشِ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لآِبَائِهِمْ يَحْضُنُهُمْ إِبْرَاهِيمُ وَ تُرَبِّيهِمْ سَارَةُ فِي جَبَلٍ مِنْ مِسْكٍ وَ عَنْبَرٍ وَ زَعْفَرَانٍ.
“Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once said to a man, ‘Marry al-Su’a’ and child bearing woman but do not marry a good looking barren woman. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص تَزَوَّجُوا الْأَبْكَارَ فَإِنَّهُنَّ أَطْيَبُ شَيْءٍ أَفْوَاهاً وَ فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ وَ أَنْشَفُهُ أَرْحَاماً وَ أَدَرُّ شَيْءٍ أَخْلَافاً وَ أَفْتَحُ شَيْءٍ أَرْحَاماً أَ مَا عَلِمْتُمْ أَنِّي أُبَاهِي بِكُمُ الْأُمَمَ- يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حَتَّى بِالسِّقْطِ يَظَلُّ مُحْبَنْطِئاً عَلَى بَابِ الْجَنَّةِ[1] فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ ادْخُلِ الْجَنَّةَ فَيَقُولُ لَا أَدْخُلُ حَتَّى ي

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ص إِذَا أَرَادَ تَزْوِيجَ امْرَأَةٍ بَعَثَ مَنْ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَ يَقُولُ لِلْمَبْعُوثَةِ شَمِّي لِيتَهَا فَإِنْ طَابَ لِيتُهَا طَابَ عَرْفُهَا وَ انْظُرِي كَعْبَهَا فَإِنْ دَرِمَ كَعْبُهَا عَظُمَ كَعْثَبُهَا[2].
“When the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, wanted to marry a woman he would send a woman to examine her with the instruction, ‘Smell her neck; if it smells fine her scent smells fine, and if her soles are full, her knees are large.’”
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع إِذِ اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ فَسَلَّمَ فَرَحَّبَ بِهِ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع وَ أَدْنَاهُ وَ سَاءَلَهُ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنِّي خَطَبْتُ إِلَى مَوْلَاكَ فُلَانِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ ابْنَتَهُ فُلَانَةَ فَرَدَّنِي وَ رَغِبَ عَنِّي وَ ازْدَرَأَنِي لِدَمَامَتِي وَ حَاجَتِي وَ غُرْبَتِي وَ قَدْ دَخَلَنِي مِنْ ذَلِكَ غَضَاضَةٌ هَجْمَةٌ غُضَّ لَهَا
