أَبْعَدُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنَ اللَّهِ أَنْ يَكُونَ الرَّجُلُ يُوَاخِيَ الرَّجُلَ وَ هُوَ يَحْفَظُ عَلَيْهِ زَلَّاتِهِ لِيُعَيِّرَهُ بِهَا يَوْماً مَا.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘A servant (of Allah) is farthest from Allah when he assumes brotherhood (in belief) with a man and keeps counting his slips and mistakes so he can one day use them against him.’”
مَنْ أَنَّبَ[1] مُؤْمِناً أَنَّبَهُ اللَّهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever rebukes a believer, Allah will debase him in this world and in the hereafter.’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ أَذَاعَ فَاحِشَةً كَانَ كَمُبْتَدِئِهَا وَ مَنْ عَيَّرَ مُؤْمِناً بِشَيْءٍ لَمْ يَمُتْ حَتَّى يَرْكَبَهُ.
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever publicizes an indecent act is considered as the initiator of such deed and whoever rebukes a believer for a thing will not die before he himself commits such a thing.’”
مَنْ عَيَّرَ مُؤْمِناً بِذَنْبٍ لَمْ يَمُتْ حَتَّى يَرْكَبَهُ[2].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever debases a believer for a sin will not die before he himself commits such a sin.’”
مَنْ لَقِيَ أَخَاهُ بِمَا يُؤَنِّبُهُ أَنَّبَهُ اللَّهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Allah will rebuke in this world and in the next life a person who meets a believer in a reproachful manner.’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الْغِيبَةُ أَسْرَعُ فِي دِينِ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ مِنَ الْأَكِلَةِ فِي جَوْفِهِ قَالَ وَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الْجُلُوسُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ انْتِظَارَ الصَّلَاةِ عِبَادَةٌ مَا لَمْ يُحْدِثْ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ مَا يُحْدِثُ قَالَ الِاغْتِيَابَ.
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Backbiting destroys the religion of a person faster than an internal cancerous disease.’ “The Imam has also said, ‘The Messenger of Allah has said, “Sitting in the mosque is worship as long as it does not happen.” He was asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, ‘What has not happened?’ He said,
مَنْ قَالَ فِي مُؤْمِنٍ مَا رَأَتْهُ عَيْنَاهُ وَ سَمِعَتْهُ أُذُنَاهُ فَهُوَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ تَشِيعَ الْفاحِشَةُ فِي الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَهُمْ عَذابٌ أَلِيمٌ[1].
"Whoever says about a believer what his eyes have seen and his ears have heard, he is among those whom Allah, the Almighty and Glorious, has said about: 'Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread among those who have believed will have a painful punishment.'" (24:19).
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْغِيبَةِ قَالَ هُوَ أَنْ تَقُولَ[3] لِأَخِيكَ فِي دِينِهِ مَا لَمْ يَفْعَلْ[4] وَ تَبُثَّ عَلَيْهِ أَمْراً قَدْ سَتَرَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ لَمْ يُقَمْ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ حَدٌّ[5].
“Once I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) about backbiting. The Imam said, ‘It is when you say about your brother in belief something about his religion that he has not done, and publicize against him something that Allah has covered up for him and he is not convicted for such crimes.’”
سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ص مَا كَفَّارَةُ الِاغْتِيَابِ قَالَ تَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ لِمَنِ اغْتَبْتَهُ كُلَّمَا ذَكَرْتَهُ[6].
“The Holy Prophet was asked, ‘What is the expiation for backbiting?’ He said, ‘It is to ask forgiveness from Allah for the person backbitten whenever one remembers him. ’”
مَنْ بَهَتَ مُؤْمِناً أَوْ مُؤْمِنَةً بِمَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ بَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ فِي طِينَةِ خَبَالٍ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ مِمَّا قَالَ[7] قُلْتُ وَ مَا طِينَةُ الْخَبَالِ قَالَ صَدِيدٌ يَخْرُجُ[1] مِنْ فُرُوجِ المُومِسَاتِ[2].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever accuses a believer with something that is not in him, Allah will raise him formed with the clay of Khabal, in which he will remain until he is out of what he had said. ’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘What is KhabalT The Imam said, ‘It is the puss that comes out from the vagina
قَالَ لِي أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ص مَنْ ذَكَرَ رَجُلًا مِنْ خَلْفِهِ بِمَا هُوَ فِيهِ مِمَّا عَرَفَهُ النَّاسُ لَمْ يَغْتَبْهُ وَ مَنْ ذَكَرَهُ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ بِمَا هُوَ فِيهِ مِمَّا لَا يَعْرِفُهُ النَّاسُ اغْتَابَهُ وَ مَنْ ذَكَرَهُ بِمَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ فَقَدْ بَهَتَهُ.
“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.) once said to me, ‘Anyone’s mentioning a man behind his back with something that is found in him and people know is not backbiting. Whoever mentions a person behind his back with something that is found in him and people do not know it, he has backbitten him. Whoever mentions a person with somethin
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ الْغِيبَةُ أَنْ تَقُولَ فِي أَخِيكَ مَا سَتَرَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ أَمَّا الْأَمْرُ الظَّاهِرُ فِيهِ مِثْلُ الْحِدَّةِ وَ الْعَجَلَةِ فَلَا وَ الْبُهْتَانُ أَنْ تَقُولَ فِيهِ مَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ[3].
“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Backbiting is when you say something about your brother (in belief) that Allah has covered up for him. However, the matters that are manifest in him like hot-temperedness and haste is not backbiting. Accusation is when you say about him what is not found in him.’”
قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَنْ رَوَى عَلَى مُؤْمِنٍ رِوَايَةً يُرِيدُ بِهَا شَيْنَهُ وَ هَدْمَ مُرُوءَتِهِ لِيَسْقُطَ مِنْ أَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ أَخْرَجَهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ وَلَايَتِهِ إِلَى وَلَايَةِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَلَا يَقْبَلُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ.
“Once Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) said to me, ‘Whoever makes a narration against a believer intending thereby to defame him and destroy his honor to discredit him in the eyes of people, Allah moves him out of His guardianship to that of Satan, and Satan will not accept him.’”
قُلْتُ لَهُ عَوْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِ حَرَامٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ[1] قُلْتُ تَعْنِي سُفْلَيْهِ[2] قَالَ لَيْسَ حَيْثُ تَذْهَبُ إِنَّمَا هِيَ إِذَاعَةُ سِرِّهِ.
“Once I asked him (abu ‘Abd Allah) (a.s.) ‘Is it unlawful to publicize the secrets and privacy of a believer before another believer?’ The Imam said, ‘Yes, it is unlawful.’ I then asked, ‘Do you thereby (privacy) mean his two lower organs (anus and genitals)?’ The Imam said, ‘It is not what you thought it is. It is to
مَا هُوَ أَنْ يَنْكَشِفَ فَتَرَى مِنْهُ شَيْئاً إِنَّمَا هُوَ أَنْ تَرْوِيَ عَلَيْهِ أَوْ تَعِيبَهُ[3].
“About the Hadith that says, ‘Privacy of a believer is unlawful for another believer,’ the Imam has said, ‘It is not that they (genitals) are exposed and one sees certain parts of them. It is to make certain narrations against him to reproach and defame him.’”
لَا تُبْدِي الشَّمَاتَةَ لِأَخِيكَ[5] فَيَرْحَمَهُ اللَّهُ وَ يُصَيِّرَهَا بِكَ وَ قَالَ مَنْ شَمِتَ بِمُصِيبَةٍ نَزَلَتْ بِأَخِيهِ لَمْ يَخْرُجْ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا حَتَّى يُفْتَتَنَ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Do not express joy at the trouble of your brother (in belief); Allah may grant him a favor and transfer that trouble to you.’ The Imam also said, ‘Whoever rejoices at the suffering that has come upon his brother (in belief) he will not leave this world before going through such sufferi
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص سِبَابُ الْمُؤْمِنِ كَالْمُشْرِفِ عَلَى الْهَلَكَةِ[7].
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Reviling a believer is like one’s positioning one’s self at the verge of destruction. ’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص سِبَابُ الْمُؤْمِنِ فُسُوقٌ[1] وَ قِتَالُهُ كُفْرٌ وَ أَكْلُ لَحْمِهِ مَعْصِيَةٌ وَ حُرْمَةُ مَالِهِ كَحُرْمَةِ دَمِهِ.
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Reviling a believer is a gross sin, fighting him is disbelief, eating his flesh (backbiting) is disobedience and the illegality of consuming his property is like the illegality of spilling his blood (taking his life).”’
إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ص فَقَالَ أَوْصِنِي فَكَانَ فِيمَا أَوْصَاهُ أَنْ قَالَ لَا تَسُبُّوا النَّاسَ فَتَكْتَسِبُوا الْعَدَاوَةَ بَيْنَهُمْ.
‘Do not revile people; it only earns their animosity against you.’”
الْبَادِي مِنْهُمَا أَظْلَمُ وَ وِزْرُهُ وَ وِزْرُ صَاحِبِهِ عَلَيْهِ مَا لَمْ يَعْتَذِرْ إِلَى الْمَظْلُومِ.
“Abu al-Hassan Musa (a.s.) has said, ‘Of the two people reviling each other, the initiator is more unjust. He bears his own sin and the sin of his companion as long as he does not apologize to the oppressed.’”
مَا شَهِدَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى رَجُلٍ بِكُفْرٍ قَطُّ إِلَّا بَاءَ بِهِ[2] أَحَدُهُمَا إِنْ كَانَ شَهِدَ بِهِ عَلَى كَافِرٍ صَدَقَ وَ إِنْ كَانَ مُؤْمِناً رَجَعَ الْكُفْرُ عَلَيْهِ فَإِيَّاكُمْ وَ الطَّعْنَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ.
“Whoever testifies to the disbelief of a man will turn to one of them (one of them becomes an unbeliever). If one testifies to the disbelief of an unbeliever, he is right and if the party is a believer it turns to the testifier. You must never revile a believer.”
سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّعْنَةَ إِذَا خَرَجَتْ مِنْ فِي صَاحِبِهَا تَرَدَّدَتْ فَإِنْ وَجَدَتْ مَسَاغاً[3] وَ إِلَّا رَجَعَتْ عَلَى صَاحِبِهَا.
“I heard one of them (the two Imam) (a.s.) saying, ‘When reviling words come from the mouth of reviling people they move back and forth. They will reach the deserving party, if any; otherwise, they come back to the reviling person.’”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّعْنَةَ إِذَا خَرَجَتْ مِنْ فِي صَاحِبِهَا تَرَدَّدَتْ بَيْنَهُمَا فَإِنْ وَجَدَتْ مَسَاغاً وَ إِلَّا رَجَعَتْ عَلَى صَاحِبِهَا.
‘When words of condemnation come out of the mouth of a person they move back and forth between the two to find the deserving party. If the deserving party is not found they come back to their owner (speaker of words of condemnation).’”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ إِذَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ لِأَخِيهِ الْمُؤْمِنِ أُفٍّ خَرَجَ مِنْ وَلَايَتِهِ وَ إِذَا قَالَ أَنْتَ عَدُوِّي كَفَرَ أَحَدُهُمَا وَ لَا يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ عَمَلًا وَ هُوَ مُضْمِرٌ عَلَى أَخِيهِ الْمُؤْمِنِ سُوءاً.
‘When a man says to his believing brother (in belief), ‘Uff (an expression of slight disappointment) he has moved out of his guardianship. If he says, ‘You are my enemy,’ one of them becomes an unbeliever. Allah does not accept the good deeds of any believer while he hides in him evil for his believing brother (in beli
مَا مِنْ إِنْسَانٍ يَطْعُنُ فِي عَيْنِ مُؤْمِنٍ إِلَّا مَاتَ بِشَرِّ مِيتَةٍ وَ كَانَ قَمِناً أَنْ لَا يَرْجِعَ إِلَى خَيْرٍ[2].
9. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Sinan from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman from Rib’i from al-Fudayl from abu Ja’far (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever reviles a believer face-to-face dies in the worst condition and deserves not to find any goodness.’”
إِذَا اتَّهَمَ الْمُؤْمِنُ أَخَاهُ انْمَاثَ الْإِيمَانُ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ[3] كَمَا يَنْمَاثُ الْمِلْحُ فِي الْمَاءِ.
‘When a believer accuses his brother (in faith), belief melts away in his heart just as salt melts away in water.’”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ مَنِ اتَّهَمَ أَخَاهُ فِي دِينِهِ- فَلَا حُرْمَةَ بَيْنَهُمَا[4] وَ مَنْ عَامَلَ أَخَاهُ بِمِثْلِ مَا عَامَلَ[5] بِهِ النَّاسَ فَهُوَ بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا يَنْتَحِلُ[6].
“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Whenever one accuses his brother (in belief) in his religious matters, religious relations will cease to exist between them. Whoever deals with his brother (in belief) just as he deals with other people, his religious relations (religious brotherhood) toward him all comes apart.’”
قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع فِي كَلَامٍ لَهُ ضَعْ أَمْرَ أَخِيكَ عَلَى أَحْسَنِهِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَكَ مَا يَغْلِبُكَ مِنْهُ[1] وَ لَا تَظُنَّنَّ بِكَلِمَةٍ خَرَجَتْ مِنْ أَخِيكَ سُوءاً وَ أَنْتَ تَجِدُ لَهَا فِي الْخَيْرِ مَحْمِلًا.
“Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) has said in one of his speeches, ‘Deal with the issues related to your brother (in belief) with best interpretations until you receive overwhelming evidence to support the facts. Do not act on (evil) guesswork about a word that has come from your brother (in belief) as long a
سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ سَعَى فِي حَاجَةٍ لِأَخِيهِ فَلَمْ يَنْصَحْهُ[2] فَقَدْ خَانَ اللَّهَ وَ رَسُولَهُ.
‘The Messenger of Allah has said, “Whoever works to help his brother (in belief), but is not sincere, has breached his trust with Allah and the Messenger of Allah.’”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ أَيُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ مَشَى فِي حَاجَةِ أَخِيهِ فَلَمْ يُنَاصِحْهُ فَقَدْ خَانَ اللَّهَ وَ رَسُولَهُ.
“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Any believer who works to help his brother (in belief) but is not sincere enough has breached his trust with Allah and the Messenger of Allah.’”
أَيُّمَا رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا اسْتَعَانَ بِهِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ إِخْوَانِهِ فِي حَاجَةٍ فَلَمْ يُبَالِغْ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ جُهْدٍ فَقَدْ خَانَ اللَّهَ وَ رَسُولَهُ وَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالَ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ قُلْتُ- لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَا تَعْنِي بِقَوْلِكَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ[1] قَالَ مِنْ لَدُنْ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِلَى آخِرِهِمْ.
“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Whoever of our people is asked for help by any of his brothers (in belief) and does not do his best to help, has breached his trust with Allah, the Messenger of Allah and the believers.’ Abu Basir has said that he then asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) ‘What do you mean by “The believers
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ مَنْ مَشَى فِي حَاجَةِ أَخِيهِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يُنَاصِحْهُ فِيهَا كَانَ كَمَنْ خَانَ اللَّهَ وَ رَسُولَهُ وَ كَانَ اللَّهُ خَصْمَهُ.
“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Whoever walks to help his brother (in belief) but not with enough sincerity is like one who has breached his trust with Allah and the Messenger of Allah, and Allah will be his foe.’”
مَنِ اسْتَشَارَ أَخَاهُ فَلَمْ يَمْحَضْهُ مَحْضَ الرَّأْيِ سَلَبَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ رَأْيَهُ[2].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘If anyone consults his brother (in belief) and he does not help him with sincere opinions, Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, takes away his good opinion (ability to form good opinions).”’
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ أَيُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ مَشَى مَعَ أَخِيهِ الْمُؤْمِنِ فِي حَاجَةٍ فَلَمْ يُنَاصِحْهُ فَقَدْ خَانَ اللَّهَ وَ رَسُولَهُ.
“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Any believer who walks with his brother (in belief) to help, but is not sincere enough has breached his trust with Allah and the Messenger of Allah.’”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ عِدَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ أَخَاهُ نَذْرٌ[3] لَا كَفَّارَةَ لَهُ فَمَنْ أَخْلَفَ فَبِخُلْفِ اللَّهِ بَدَأَ وَ لِمَقْتِهِ تَعَرَّضَ وَ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ- يا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِمَ تَقُولُونَ ما لا تَفْعَلُونَ كَبُرَ مَقْتاً عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَنْ تَقُولُوا ما لا تَفْعَلُونَ[1].
“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘The promise of a believer to his brother (in belief) is a vow that has no expiation. Whoever violates it has initiated to violate Allah and has subjected himself to His anger as it is said in His words: “Believers, why do you preach what you do not practice? (61:2). It is most hat
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ كانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَ الْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيَفِ إِذَا وَعَدَ.
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever believes in Allah, and in the Day of Judgment, must fulfill his promise.’”
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَيُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ كَانَ بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ مُؤْمِنٍ حِجَابٌ ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ الْجَنَّةِ سَبْعِينَ أَلْفَ سُورٍ مَا بَيْنَ السُّورِ إِلَى السُّورِ مَسِيرَةُ أَلْفِ عَامٍ.
“Once I was in the presence of al-Rida (a.s.) and he stated to me as follows: ‘O Muhammad, in the time of the children of Israel there were four believing people. One of them once went to the house where the other three had gathered together for a meeting on a certain issue among them. He knocked the door and a slave c
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ الرِّضَا ص فَقَالَ لِي يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي زَمَنِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَرْبَعَةُ نَفَرٍ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَأَتَى وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمُ الثَّلَاثَةَ وَ هُمْ مُجْتَمِعُونَ فِي مَنْزِلِ أَحَدِهِمْ فِي مُنَاظَرَةٍ بَيْنَهُمْ فَقَرَعَ الْبَابَ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ الْغُلَامُ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ مَوْلَاكَ فَقَالَ لَيْسَ هُوَ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَرَجَعَ الرَّجُلُ وَ دَخَلَ الْغُلَامُ إِلَى مَوْلَاهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ م
“If a believer creates a barrier between himself and another believer, Allah creates between him and paradise seventy thousand walls each of which will be as thick as the distance of a one thousand year journey, and of the same length will be the distance from one wall to the other wall.”
أَيُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ كَانَ بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ مُؤْمِنٍ حِجَابٌ ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ الْجَنَّةِ سَبْعِينَ أَلْفَ سُورٍ غِلَظُ كُلِّ سُورٍ مَسِيرَةُ أَلْفِ عَامٍ مَا بَيْنَ السُّورِ إِلَى السُّورِ مَسِيرَةُ أَلْفِ عَامٍ.
“Once I said to abu Ja’far (a.s.) ‘May Allah keep my soul in service for your cause, what do you say about a Muslim who comes to the door of a Muslim as a visitor, or for help when he is home, and is asked permission for a meeting but does not give permission, nor does he come out to see his visitor?’ The Imam said, ‘O
قُلْتُ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ مَا تَقُولُ فِي مُسْلِمٍ أَتَى مُسْلِماً زَائِراً أَوْ طَالِبَ حَاجَةٍ وَ هُوَ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ فَاسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَأْذَنْ لَهُ وَ لَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ أَيُّمَا مُسْلِمٍ أَتَى مُسْلِماً زَائِراً أَوْ طَالِبَ حَاجَةٍ وَ هُوَ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ فَاسْتَأْذَنَ لَهُ وَ لَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِ لَمْ يَزَلْ فِي لَعْنَةِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يَلْتَقِيَا[1] فَقُلْتُ جُعِلْ

مَنْ بَخِلَ بِمَعُونَةِ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ وَ الْقِيَامِ لَهُ فِي حَاجَتِهِ إِلَّا ابْتُلِيَ بِمَعُونَةِ مَنْ يَأْثَمُ عَلَيْهِ وَ لَا يُؤْجَرُ[1].
“Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever exercises stinginess in assisting his Muslim brother and in helping him in his needs will run into an involvement of such an assistance that will make him sin and receive no rewards for it.’”
أَيُّمَا رَجُلٍ مِنْ شِيعَتِنَا أَتَى رَجُلًا مِنْ إِخْوَانِهِ فَاسْتَعَانَ بِهِ فِي حَاجَتِهِ فَلَمْ يُعِنْهُ وَ هُوَ يَقْدِرُ إِلَّا ابْتَلَاهُ اللَّهُ بِأَنْ يَقْضِيَ حَوَائِجَ غَيْرِهِ[2] مِنْ أَعْدَائِنَا يُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ[3].
“If anyone of our Shi’a (followers) comes to his brother (in belief) for help and does not help him while he is able to help, Allah will make him help other people of our enemies and on the Day of Judgment Allah will punish him for such help.”
لَمْ يَدَعْ رَجُلٌ مَعُونَةَ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ حَتَّى يَسْعَى[4] فِيهَا وَ يُوَاسِيَهُ إِلَّا ابْتُلِيَ بِمَعُونَةِ مَنْ يَأْثَمُ وَ لَا يُؤْجَرُ.
“Whoever ignores assistance to his Muslim brother and the endeavor to cooperate with him will be involved in assisting someone who commits sins. It (assistance) does not bring him any rewards.”
سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ مَنْ قَصَدَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ إِخْوَانِهِ مُسْتَجِيراً بِهِ فِي بَعْضِ أَحْوَالِهِ فَلَمْ يُجِرْهُ بَعْدَ أَنْ يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَدْ قَطَعَ وَلَايَةَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ[1].
“I heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.) saying, ‘Anyone whose brother (in belief) comes to him for help and support in his affairs and one does not provide any support or assistance when capable of doing so, has cut off oneself from the guardianship of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy.’”
أَيُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ مَنَعَ مُؤْمِناً شَيْئاً مِمَّا يَحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهِ وَ هُوَ يَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ أَوْ مِنْ عِنْدِ غَيْرِهِ أَقَامَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مُسْوَدّاً وَجْهُهُ مُزْرَقَّةً عَيْنَاهُ[2] مَغْلُولَةً يَدَاهُ إِلَى عُنُقِهِ فَيُقَالُ هَذَا الْخَائِنُ الَّذِي خَانَ اللَّهَ وَ رَسُولَهُ ثُمَّ يُؤْمَرُ بِهِ إِلَى النَّارِ.
“If a believer refuses to give a needy believer something that he from his own or from another person can provide, due to such refusal on the Day of Judgment, Allah will raise him (refusing to help) with his face blackened, his eyes turned blue, his hands chained to his neck and it will be said, ‘Violator of trust who
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَا يُونُسُ مَنْ حَبَسَ حَقَّ الْمُؤْمِنِ أَقَامَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ خَمْسَمِائَةِ عَامٍ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ حَتَّى يَسِيلَ عَرَقُهُ أَوْ دَمُهُ[3] وَ يُنَادِي مُنَادٍ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ هَذَا الظَّالِمُ الَّذِي حَبَسَ عَنِ اللَّهِ حَقَّهُ قَالَ فَيُوَبَّخُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً ثُمَّ يُؤْمَرُ بِهِ إِلَى النَّارِ.
“Once Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) said to me, ‘O Yunus, whoever hinders a believer’s rights, because of such hindrance, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, on the Day of Judgment will make him stand up on his feet for five hundred years until his sweat or blood flow and an announcer will announce from Allah, ‘This unjust
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ دَارٌ فَاحْتَاجَ مُؤْمِنٌ إِلَى سُكْنَاهَا فَمَنَعَهُ إِيَّاهَا قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَا مَلَائِكَتِي أَ بَخِلَ عَبْدِي عَلَى عَبْدِي بِسُكْنَى الدَّارِ الدُّنْيَا وَ عِزَّتِي وَ جَلَالِي لَا يَسْكُنُ جِنَانِي أَبَداً.
‘If one has a home and a believer needs a place to live and is denied to use the house, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, says, ‘O My angels. My servant has denied My other servant a living place in the worldly home, by My Majesty and Glory, he will never live in My paradise.’”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع يَقُولُ مَنْ أَتَاهُ أَخُوهُ الْمُؤْمِنُ فِي حَاجَةٍ فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ رَحْمَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ سَاقَهَا إِلَيْهِ فَإِنْ قَبِلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ وَصَلَهُ بِوَلَايَتِنَا وَ هُوَ مَوْصُولٌ بِوَلَايَةِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ إِنْ رَدَّهُ عَنْ حَاجَتِهِ وَ هُوَ يَقْدِرُ عَلَى قَضَائِهَا سَلَّطَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ شُجَاعاً مِنْ نَارٍ يَنْهَشُهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ مَغ
“I heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.) saying, ‘Whoever has a brother (in belief) who comes to him for help it is a favor to him from Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, Who has sent to him. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ نَظَرَ إِلَى مُؤْمِنٍ نَظْرَةً لِيُخِيفَهُ بِهَا أَخَافَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ[2].
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever looks upon a believer to frighten him, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will frighten him on the day when there will be no shadow (protection), accept His shadow.’”
مَنْ رَوَّعَ مُؤْمِناً بِسُلْطَانٍ لِيُصِيبَهُ مِنْهُ مَكْرُوهٌ فَلَمْ يُصِبْهُ فَهُوَ فِي النَّارِ وَ مَنْ رَوَّعَ مُؤْمِناً بِسُلْطَانٍ لِيُصِيبَهُ مِنْهُ مَكْرُوهٌ فَأَصَابَهُ فَهُوَ مَعَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ فِي النَّارِ.
‘‘Whoever frightens a believer with an authority and force that may harm him but is not harmed (the frightening person) will be in the fire. Whoever frightens a believer by an authority and forces to harm him and he is harmed, (the frightening person) will be raised with the Pharaoh and the people of Pharaoh in the fir
