كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع بِالْحِجْرِ فَاسْتَسْقَى مَاءً فَأُتِيَ بِقَدَحٍ مِنْ صُفْرٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ إِنَّ عَبَّادَ بْنَ كَثِيرٍ يَكْرَهُ الشُّرْبَ فِي الصُّفْرِ فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ وَ قَالَ ع لِلرَّجُلِ أَلَّا سَأَلْتَهُ أَ ذَهَبٌ هُوَ أَمْ فِضَّةٌ.

“Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), in al-Hijr (near al-Ka‘bah) and he asked for water. Water was brought in a yellow bowl (made of brass) and a man said, “Abbad ibn Kathir dislikes drinking water from yellow.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’ He (the Imam) said to the man, ‘Did you ask him (‘Abbad ibn Kat

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ لَا تَشْرَبُوا الْمَاءَ مِنْ ثُلْمَةِ الْإِنَاءِ[2] وَ لَا مِنْ عُرْوَتِهِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَقْعُدُ عَلَى الْعُرْوَةِ وَ الثُّلْمَةِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Do not drink water from the broken part of a bowl or from its handle because Satan sits on the broken part and on the handle (ring).”’

“I once was near the pond of Zamzam when a man came and said, ‘O abu Hamzah, do not drink from this water because it is shared by both al-Jin and man, and this one is just for human beings/ I found his words strange and then thought, ‘How did he know it?’ I then asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about it and he (the Imam) said,

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِذَا اسْتَسْقَى الْمَاءَ فَلَمَّا شَرِبَهُ رَأَيْتُهُ قَدِ اسْتَعْبَرَ وَ اغْرَوْرَقَتْ عَيْنَاهُ بِدُمُوعِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي يَا دَاوُدُ- لَعَنَ اللَّهُ قَاتِلَ الْحُسَيْنِ ع وَ مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ شَرِبَ الْمَاءَ فَذَكَرَ الْحُسَيْنَ ع وَ أَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ وَ لَعَنَ قَاتِلَهُ إِلَّا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَهُ مِائَةَ أَلْفِ حَسَنَةٍ وَ حَطَّ عَنْهُ مِائَةَ أَلْفِ سَيِّئَةٍ وَ

“I once was with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), when he asked for water and when he drank water, I saw him (the Imam) weeping and tears come out of his eyes. إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَمَّا أَهْبَطَ آدَمَ ع أَمَرَهُ بِالْحَرْثِ وَ الزَّرْعِ وَ طَرَحَ إِلَيْهِ غَرْساً مِنْ غُرُوسِ الْجَنَّةِ فَأَعْطَاهُ النَّخْلَ وَ الْعِنَبَ وَ الزَّيْتُونَ وَ الرُّمَّانَ فَغَرَسَهَا لِيَكُونَ لِعَقِبِهِ وَ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ فَأَكَلَ هُوَ مِنْ ثِمَارِهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ إِبْلِيسُ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ يَا آدَمُ مَا هَذَا الْغَرْسُ الَّذِي لَمْ أَكُنْ أَعْرِفُهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَ قَدْ كُنْتُ فِيهَا

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, made Adam (a.s.) to descend, He commanded him to farm and plant and threw to him a plant from the plant of the garden (paradises). He gave him palm trees, grape vines, olives and pomegranates. He planted them for his offspring and descendents.

لَمَّا هَبَطَ نُوحٌ ع مِنَ السَّفِينَةِ غَرَسَ غَرْساً وَ كَانَ فِيمَا غَرَسَ ع الْحَبَلَةُ[1] ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَجَاءَ إِبْلِيسُ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ فَقَلَعَهَا ثُمَّ إِنَّ نُوحاً ع عَادَ إِلَى غَرْسِهِ فَوَجَدَهُ عَلَى حَالِهِ وَ وَجَدَ الْحَبَلَةَ قَدْ قُلِعَتْ وَ وَجَدَ إِبْلِيسَ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ عِنْدَهَا فَأَتَاهُ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ إِبْلِيسَ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ قَلَعَهَا فَقَالَ نُوحٌ لِإِبْ

سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْخَمْرِ فَقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بَعَثَنِي‌ رَحْمَةً لِلْعالَمِينَ‌ وَ لِأَمْحَقَ الْمَعَازِفَ وَ الْمَزَامِيرَ وَ أُمُورَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَ الْأَوْثَانَ وَ قَالَ أَقْسَمَ رَبِّي أَنْ لَا يَشْرَبَ عَبْدٌ لِي فِي الدُّنْيَا خَمْراً إِلَّا سَقَيْتُهُ مِثْلَ مَا شَرِبَ مِنْهَا مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ- يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مُعَذَّباً أَوْ مَغْفُوراً لَهُ وَ

يُؤْتَى شَارِبُ الْخَمْرِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مُسْوَدّاً وَجْهُهُ مُدْلِعاً لِسَانَهُ‌[1] يَسِيلُ لُعَابُهُ عَلَى صَدْرِهِ وَ حَقٌّ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَنْ يَسْقِيَهُ مِنْ طِينَةِ خَبَالٍ أَوْ قَالَ مِنْ بِئْرِ خَبَالٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَ مَا بِئْرُ خَبَالٍ قَالَ بِئْرٌ يَسِيلُ فِيهَا صَدِيدُ الزُّنَاةِ[2].

The wine drinker on the Day of Judgment will be brought with his face all black, his tongue hanging down and his saliva flowing on his chest. قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع الْمَوْلُودُ يُولَدُ فَنَسْقِيهِ مِنَ الْخَمْرِ فَقَالَ مَنْ سَقَى مَوْلُوداً خَمْراً أَوْ قَالَ مُسْكِراً سَقَاهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ وَ إِنْ غَفَرَ لَهُ.

“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), if we can make a new born drink wine. He (the Imam) said, ‘If one makes a child drink wine’ or he said, ‘intoxicating liquor, Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, will make him drink al-Hamim (boiling water that roasts the face when drinking) of hell even if He forgives him.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor, it is a right on Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, to make him drink from tinah of Khabal.’ I asked, ‘What is it?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is puss from the vagina of fornicators.’”

مَنْ شَرِبَ مُسْكِراً لَمْ تُقْبَلْ مِنْهُ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً وَ إِنْ عَادَ سَقَاهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ طِينَةِ خَبَالٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَ مَا طِينَةُ خَبَالٍ فَقَالَ مَاءٌ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ فُرُوجِ الزُّنَاةِ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days. If he returns to drink again Allah will make him drink from Tinah of Khabal, which he (the Imam) said, is a liquid that comes out of the vagina of fornicators.’”

“If one drinks wine his Salat (prayer) is not counted for forty days.’” He (the Imam) said, ‘They have spoken the truth.’ I then asked, ‘How is it that his Salat (prayer) is not counted for forty days: no less and no more?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, determined the creation of human being

الشُّرْبُ مِفْتَاحُ كُلِّ شَرٍّ وَ مُدْمِنُ الْخَمْرِ كَعَابِدِ وَثَنٍ وَ إِنَّ الْخَمْرَ رَأْسُ كُلِّ إِثْمٍ وَ شَارِبَهَا مُكَذِّبٌ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى لَوْ صَدَّقَ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ حَرَّمَ حَرَامَهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Drinking wine is the key to all evil and a wine addict is like an idol worshipper. Wine is the head of all sins and a wine drinker is a rejecter of the book of Allah, most High; had he accepted the book of Allah he would consider what it declares unlawful as unlawful.’”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ مَنْ شَرِبَ الْمُسْكِرَ حَتَّى يَفْنَى عُمُرُهُ كَانَ كَمَنْ عَبَدَ الْأَوْثَانَ وَ مَنْ تَرَكَ مُسْكِراً مَخَافَةً مِنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَدْخَلَهُ اللَّهُ الْجَنَّةَ وَ سَقَاهُ مِنَ الرَّحِيقِ الْمَخْتُومِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor until his life ends he is like an idol worshipper. If one quits drinking intoxicating liquor for fear of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, He will admit him in the garden (paradises) and give him drinks from exquisite, sealed nectar (containers).’”
