سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ وَ اذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ فِي نَفْسِكَ‌ تَضَرُّعاً وَ خِيفَةً وَ دُونَ الْجَهْرِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ‌ عِنْدَ الْمَسَاءِ- لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ* وَ يُمِيتُ وَ يُحْيِي‌ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* قَالَ قُلْتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ قَالَ إِنَّ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرَ وَ لَكِنْ قُلْ كَمَا أَقُولُ لَكَ عَشْرَ م

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying in the evening, ‘Remember (speak of) your Lord deep within yourselves, humbly and privately, instead of shouting out loud, (in prayer) in the mornings and evenings and do not be of the heedless ones,’ (7:205) and ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone. إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ الْمَغْرِبَ وَ الْغَدَاةَ فَقُلْ‌ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ* لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ قَالَهَا لَمْ يُصِبْهُ جُذَامٌ وَ لَا بَرَصٌ وَ لَا جُنُونٌ وَ لَا سَبْعُونَ نَوْعاً مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ الْبَلَاءِ قَالَ وَ تَقُولُ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ وَ أَمْسَيْتَ- الْحَمْدُ لِرَبِّ الصَّبَاحِ الْحَمْدُ لِفَالِقِ الْإِصْبَاحِ مَرَّتَيْنِ ال

20. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa’Id from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn abu Hamza from abu Basir from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said the following: “When you perform the Maghrib (prayer at sunset) and morning prayers say, ‘(I begin) in the name of Allah,

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع يَقُولُ‌ إِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ فَنَظَرْتَ إِلَى الشَّمْسِ فِي غُرُوبٍ وَ إِدْبَارٍ فَقُلْ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ* الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَداً وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ‌ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي يَصِفُ وَ لَا يُوصَفُ وَ يَعْلَمُ وَ لَا يُعْلَمُ‌ يَعْلَمُ خائِنَةَ الْأَعْيُنِ‌ وَ ما تُخْفِي الصُّدُورُ أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ الْكَرِيمِ وَ بِاسْ

“I heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.) saying, ‘In the evening when you see the sun is disappearing say, ‘(I begin) in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All praise belongs to Allah, Who has no children, never had a partner in the kingdom, all praise belongs to Allah Who describes things and Himself is beyond desc

إِنَّ الدُّعَاءَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَ قَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا سُنَّةٌ وَاجِبَةٌ[2] مَعَ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ[3] وَ الْمَغْرِبِ تَقُولُ‌ لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ‌ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ* وَ يُمِيتُ وَ يُحْيِي وَ هُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ تَقُولُ- أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ السَّمِيعِ الْعَلِيمِ‌ مِنْ هَ

“Prayer before sunrise and sunset is an established Sunnah (tradition). At sunrise and sunset say, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, alone, Who has no partner. To Him belongs the Kingdom and all praise. He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life and He does not die. In His hand is all good,

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِنَّ مِنْ الدُّعَاءِ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِصَاحِبِهِ إِذَا نَسِيَهُ أَنْ يَقْضِيَهُ يَقُولُ بَعْدَ الْغَدَاةِ- لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ* وَ يُمِيتُ وَ يُحْيِي وَ هُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ‌ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ يَقُولُ- أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ السَّمِيعِ الْعَلِيم

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Of the prayers are such that if one forgets one should make up for it. One should say after the morning prayer, “No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, alone Who has no partner, to Him belongs the Kingdom and all praise, He gives life, causes death, causes death, gives life, He

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنِ التَّسْبِيحِ فَقَالَ مَا عَلِمْتُ شَيْئاً مُوَظَّفاً غَيْرَ تَسْبِيحِ فَاطِمَةَ ع- وَ عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ تَقُولُ- لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ- وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* وَ يُسَبِّحُ مَا شَاءَ تَطَوُّعاً.

“Once I asked abu Ja’far (a.s.) about Tasbih (words to glorify Allah). The Imam said, ‘I do not know of anything other than Tasbih of Fatimah (a.s.) and ten times after the morning prayer, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, alone Who has no partner, to Him belongs all praise, He gives life, causes death. قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع‌ مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَطْلُعُ الْفَجْرُ- لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ* وَ يُمِيتُ وَ يُحْيِي وَ هُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ صَلَّى عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ سَبَّحَ خَمْساً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ مَرَّةً وَ هَلَّلَ خَمْساً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ م

35. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Isma’Il ibn Jabir from ‘Ubaydah al-Hadhdha’ who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever says before dawn, “No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone, Who has no partner, to Him belongs the k

مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَأْخُذُ مَضْجَعَهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي عَلَا فَقَهَرَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بَطَنَ فَخَبَرَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي مَلَكَ فَقَدَرَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي‌ يُحْيِ الْمَوْتى‌* وَ يُمِيتُ الْأَحْيَاءَ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* خَرَجَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ كَهَيْئَةِ يَوْمَ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ.

“Whoever at the time of going to bed says three times, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, Who is High, thus, He is Dominant. All praise belongs to Allah, Who is hidden, thus, He knows. All praise belongs to Allah, Who owns, thus. He has measured (all things), all praise belongs to Allah, Who gives life to the dead, and caus

أَنَّ شِهَابَ بْنَ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ سَأَلَهُ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ‌[2] أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ قَالَ‌ قُلْ لَهُ إِنَّ امْرَأَةً تُفْزِعُنِي فِي الْمَنَامِ بِاللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ قُلْ لَهُ اجْعَلْ مِسْبَاحاً[1] وَ كَبِّرِ اللَّهَ أَرْبَعاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ تَكْبِيرَةً وَ سَبِّحِ اللَّهَ ثَلَاثاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ تَسْبِيحَةً وَ احْمَدِ اللَّهَ ثَلَاثاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ وَ قُلْ‌ لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْم

“Ask the Imam, ‘A woman frightens me in my dream at night.’ The narrator has said that the Imam said, ‘Tell him to take rosary beads ( sabhah ) and say, ‘Allah is greater than can be described, thirty-four times, all praise belongs to Allah, thirty-three times, Allah is free of defects, thirty-three times,’ then say, “

إِذَا قُمْتَ بِاللَّيْلِ مِنْ مَنَامِكَ فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي رَدَّ عَلَيَّ رُوحِي لِأَحْمَدَهُ وَ أَعْبُدَهُ فَإِذَا سَمِعْتَ صَوْتَ الدِّيكِ فَقُلْ- سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ رَبُّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَ الرُّوحِ سَبَقَتْ رَحْمَتُكَ غَضَبَكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ عَمِلْتُ سُوءاً وَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي‌ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ فَإِذَا قُمْتَ فَانْظُرْ فِي آفَاقِ السَّمَاء

“During the night if you wake up say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, who has returned my spirit to me so I can thank Him and worship Him.’ When you hear the voice of a rooster then say, ‘O the Faultless, the Holy, Lord of the angels and the Spirit, Your mercy comes before Your anger and no one deserves to be worshipped

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قَالَ- اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ فَإِذَا قَامَ مِنْ نَوْمِهِ قَالَ- الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانِي بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنِي‌ وَ إِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ وَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَنْ قَرَأَ عِنْدَ مَنَامِهِ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ الْآيَةَ الَّتِي فِي آلِ عِمْرَانَ- شَهِدَ اللَّهُ‌ أَنَّهُ لا إِلهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَ الْ

A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Ahmad ibn Muhammad all from Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Ash’ari from ibn al-Qaddah from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said the following: “When the Messenger of Allah were about to go to his bed he would say, ‘O Lord, in Your name I live and in Your name I wil

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص‌ مَنْ أَرَادَ شَيْئاً مِنْ قِيَامِ اللَّيْلِ وَ أَخَذَ مَضْجَعَهُ فَلْيَقُلْ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُمَّ لَا تُؤْمِنِّي مَكْرَكَ وَ لَا تُنْسِنِي ذِكْرَكَ وَ لَا تَجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ أَقُومُ سَاعَةَ كَذَا وَ كَذَا إِلَّا وَكَّلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِهِ مَلَكاً يُنَبِّهُهُ تِلْكَ السَّاعَةَ.

“The Holy Prophet has said, ‘Whoever likes to wake up at night, at the time of going to sleep should say, “(In the name of Allah) O Lord, do not allow me to ignore Your anger, do not allow me to forget speaking of You, do not make me of the careless ones, so I will wake up at such and such hour,” Allah, the Most Majest

أَتَيْتُ بَابَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ع فَوَافَقْتُهُ حِينَ خَرَجَ مِنَ الْبَابِ فَقَالَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ‌ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا خَرَجَ مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ عَرَضَ لَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِذَا قَالَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ قَالَ الْمَلَكَانِ كُفِيتَ فَإِذَا قَالَ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ قَالا هُدِيتَ- فَإِذَا قَالَ‌ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ‌ قَالا وُقِيتَ فَيَتَ

“Once I went to see Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) and met him at the door when he was coming out saying, ‘In the name of Allah, I believe in Allah, and I place my trust in Allah,’ he then said, ‘O abu Hamza, when a servant (of Allah) comes out of his door a Satan stands on his way, when he says, “In the name of Allah,” two

مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَابِ دَارِهِ- أَعُوذُ بِمَا عَاذَتْ بِهِ مَلَائِكَةُ اللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ الْجَدِيدِ الَّذِي إِذَا غَابَتْ شَمْسُهُ لَمْ تَعُدْ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي وَ مِنْ شَرِّ غَيْرِي وَ مِنْ شَرِّ الشَّيَاطِينِ- وَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَنْ نَصَبَ لِأَوْلِيَاءِ اللَّهِ وَ مِنْ شَرِّ الْجِنِّ وَ الْإِنْسِ وَ مِنْ شَرِّ السِّبَاعِ وَ الْهَوَامِّ وَ مِنْ شَرِّ رُكُوبِ الْمَحَارِمِ كُلِّهَا أُجِيرُ

“Whoever says, when coming out of his door, ‘I seek protection with that by which the angels of Allah seek protection, against the evil of this new day which when it is its sunset it will not come back, I seek protection against the evil of my soul and the evil of the others, I seek protection against Satan and those w

إِذَا خَرَجْتَ مِنْ مَنْزِلِكَ فِي سَفَرٍ أَوْ حَضَرٍ فَقُلْ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ‌ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ‌ ما شاءَ اللَّهُ‌ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ فَتَلَقَّاهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ‌ فَتَنْصَرِفُ‌[1] وَ تَضْرِبُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ[2] وُجُوهَهَا وَ تَقُولُ مَا سَبِيلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ- وَ قَدْ سَمَّى اللَّهَ وَ آمَنَ بِهِ وَ تَوَكَّلَ عَلَيْهِ وَ قَالَ‌ ما شاءَ اللَّهُ‌ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِ

“When you come out of your house for a journey or arrive home say, ‘In the name of Allah, I believe in Allah, I place my trust in Allah, as Allah wills. There are no means and no power without Allah. Devils are on his way but they move away; the angels strike their faces and say, “You have no way to him. He has spoken

كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ص يَقُولُ إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنَ الزَّوَالِ‌[1]- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ بِجُودِكَ وَ كَرَمِكَ وَ أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ- بِمُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَ رَسُولِكَ وَ أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ بِمَلَائِكَتِكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَ أَنْبِيَائِكَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَ بِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْغَنِيُّ عَنِّي وَ بِيَ الْفَاقَةُ إِلَيْكَ أَنْتَ الْغَنِيُّ وَ أَنَا الْفَقِيرُ إِلَيْكَ أَقَلْتَنِي عَثْرَتِ

“Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) after completing the prayer at noon time would say, ‘O Lord, I seek nearness to You through Your generosity and magnanimity, I seek nearness to You through Muhammad, Your servant, and Your messenger, I seek nearness to You through Your favorite angels. بَعْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ وَ هُوَ آخِذٌ بِلِحْيَتِهِ بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى- يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ ارْحَمْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ يَدُهُ الْيُسْرَى مَرْفُوعَةٌ وَ بَطْنُهَا إِلَى مَا يَلِي السَّمَاءَ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَجِرْنِي مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ثُمَّ يُؤَخِّرُ يَدَهُ عَنْ لِحْيَتِهِ ثُمَّ يَرْفَعُ يَدَهُ وَ يَجْعَلُ بَطْنَهَا مِمَّا يَلِي السَّمَاءَ[2] ثُمَّ يَقُولُ يَا عَزِي

“Whoever after every prayer, holds his beard in his right hand and says, ‘O the Owner of glory and magnanimity, have mercy upon me against fire,’ three times, with the left hand raised and the palms up to the sky and says, ‘Grant me safety from the painful torment,’ three times, then removes his hand from his beard and

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ جَاءَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع إِلَى يُوسُفَ وَ هُوَ فِي السِّجْنِ فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا يُوسُفُ قُلْ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ- اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِي فَرَجاً وَ مَخْرَجاً وَ ارْزُقْنِي مِنْ حَيْثُ أَحْتَسِبُ وَ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا أَحْتَسِبُ.

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Jibril (Gabriel) came to Joseph in prison and said to him, “Joseph, after every prayer say, ‘O Lord, grant me relief, a way out (of difficulties), and sustenance from the sources I expect and from those I do not expect.’”

أَبْطَأَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ص عَنْهُ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَا أَبْطَأَ بِكَ عَنَّا فَقَالَ السُّقْمُ وَ الْفَقْرُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَ فَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ دُعَاءً يَذْهَبُ اللَّهُ عَنْكَ بِالسُّقْمِ وَ الْفَقْرِ قَالَ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ قُلْ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ تَوَكَّلْتُ‌ عَلَى الْحَيِّ الَّذِي لا يَمُوتُ‌ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّه

“Once one of the companions of the Holy Prophet delayed and when he came, the Messenger of Allah asked, ‘What caused you to delay?’ He replied, ‘Illness and poverty.’ He then said, ‘Should I teach you a supplication with which Allah will remove illness and poverty from you?’ He said, ‘Yes, O the Messenger of Allah, ple

أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ص رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ الْغَالِبُ عَلَيَّ الدَّيْنُ وَ وَسْوَسَةُ الصَّدْرِ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ص قُلْ تَوَكَّلْتُ‌ عَلَى الْحَيِّ الَّذِي لا يَمُوتُ‌ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ صَاحِبَةً وَ لَا وَلَداً وَ لَمْ‌ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ وَلِيٌّ مِنَ الذُّلِّ وَ كَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيراً قَالَ فَصَبَرَ الرَّجُلُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ مَرَّ ع

“Once a man came to the Holy Prophet and said, ‘O Prophet of Allah, debts and insinuation of the chest (mind) have overcome me.’ The Holy Prophet told him to say, ‘I place my trust in Allah, the Living, Who does not die, all praise belongs to Allah, Who has not taken any companions, or children. جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ص فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ لَقِيتُ شِدَّةً مِنْ وَسْوَسَةِ الصَّدْرِ وَ أَنَا رَجُلٌ مَدِينٌ مُعِيلٌ مُحْوِجٌ‌[1] فَقَالَ لَهُ كَرِّرْ هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَاتِ- تَوَكَّلْتُ‌ عَلَى الْحَيِّ الَّذِي لا يَمُوتُ‌ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ صَاحِبَةً وَ لَا وَلَداً وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ وَلِيٌّ مِنَ الذُّلِّ وَ كَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيراً ف

لَمَّا طَرَحَ إِخْوَةُ يُوسُفَ- يُوسُفَ فِي الْجُبِّ أَتَاهُ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ يَا غُلَامُ مَا تَصْنَعُ هَاهُنَا فَقَالَ إِنَّ إِخْوَتِي أَلْقَوْنِي فِي‌ الْجُبِّ قَالَ فَتُحِبُّ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ مِنْهُ قَالَ ذَاكَ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِنْ شَاءَ أَخْرَجَنِي قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ لَكَ ادْعُنِي بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ حَتَّى أُخْرِجَكَ مِنَ الْجُبِّ فَقَالَ لَهُ وَ مَا

“When Joseph’s brothers threw him in the well, Jibril (Gabriel) came to him and asked, ‘O young man, what are you doing here?’ He replied, ‘My brothers have thrown me in the well.’ Jibril (Gabriel) asked, ‘Would you like to get out of the well?’ He said, ‘That is up to Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, if He wil

قَالَ‌[1]: إِذَا أَحْزَنَكَ أَمْرٌ فَقُلْ فِي آخِرِ سُجُودِكَ- يَا جَبْرَئِيلُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ يَا جَبْرَئِيلُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ تُكَرِّرُ ذَلِكَ- اكْفِيَانِي مَا أَنَا فِيهِ فَإِنَّكُمَا كَافِيَانِ وَ احْفَظَانِي بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّكُمَا حَافِظَانِ.

“When something causes you sadness, say in your last Sajdah (prostration); ‘O Jibril (Gabriel), O Muhammad, O Jibril (Gabriel), O Muhammad (a.s.) repeat these words, suffice me in the condition I am; you both are sufficient for me, protect me by the permission of Allah; you both are protectors.’”

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع دُعَاءً وَ أَنَا خَلْفَهُ فَقَالَ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِوَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيمِ وَ اسْمِكَ الْعَظِيمِ وَ بِعِزَّتِكَ‌ الَّتِي لَا تُرَامُ وَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ الَّتِي لَا يَمْتَنِعُ مِنْهَا شَيْ‌ءٌ أَنْ تَفْعَلَ بِي كَذَا وَ كَذَا قَالَ وَ كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ رُقْعَةً بِخَطِّهِ قُلْ يَا مَنْ عَلَا فَقَهَرَ وَ بَطَنَ فَخَبَرَ يَا مَنْ مَلَكَ فَقَدَرَ وَ يَا مَنْ‌ يُحْيِ الْمَوْتى‌ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌

قَالَ لِي أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع‌ إِذَا كَانَ لَكَ يَا سَمَاعَةُ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ حَاجَةٌ فَقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلِيٍّ فَإِنَّ لَهُمَا عِنْدَكَ شَأْناً مِنَ الشَّأْنِ وَ قَدْراً مِنَ الْقَدْرِ فَبِحَقِّ ذَلِكَ الشَّأْنِ وَ بِحَقِّ ذَلِكَ الْقَدْرِ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَنْ تَفْعَلَ بِي كَذَا وَ كَذَا فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ لَم

لَمَّا بَعَثَ أَبُو الدَّوَانِيقِ‌[1] إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع رَفَعَ يَدَهُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ ثُمَّ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ حَفِظْتَ الْغُلَامَيْنِ بِصَلَاحِ أَبَوَيْهِمَا فَاحْفَظْنِي بِصَلَاحِ آبَائِي مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلِيٍّ وَ الْحَسَنِ وَ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَدْرَأُ بِكَ‌[2] فِي نَحْرِهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِلْجَمَّالِ سِرْ ف

قُلْتُ لَهُ عَلِّمْنِي دُعَاءً أَدْعُو بِهِ لِوَجَعٍ أَصَابَنِي قَالَ قُلْ وَ أَنْتَ سَاجِدٌ- يَا اللَّهُ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحِيمُ يَا رَبَّ الْأَرْبَابِ وَ إِلَهَ الْآلِهَةِ وَ يَا مَلِكَ الْمُلُوكِ وَ يَا سَيِّدَ السَّادَةِ اشْفِنِي بِشِفَائِكَ مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ وَ سُقْمٍ فَإِنِّي عَبْدُكَ أَتَقَلَّبُ فِي قَبْضَتِكَ.

“I asked him (the Imam) to teach me a supplication when I suffer from pain. He said during Sajdah (prostration) say, ‘O Allah, O the Beneficent, O the Merciful, O Lord of lords, O Lord of gods (things worshipped), O the King of kings, O Master of masters, cure me with Your treatment from all ailments and diseases; I am

Muhammad ibn Ja’far abu al-‘Abbas has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Salih ibn Sa’id from Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Harun who wrote to abu Ja’iar (a.s.) asking for a supplication for protection of children against bothering gasses: “The Imam wrote in his own hand writing the following supplications for protect

مَنْ قَالَ فِي دُبُرِ الْفَرِيضَةِ- أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ الْجَلِيلَ نَفْسِي وَ أَهْلِي وَ وُلْدِي وَ مَنْ يَعْنِينِي أَمْرُهُ‌[2] وَ أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ الْمَرْهُوبَ الْمَخُوفَ الْمُتَضَعْضِعَ لِعَظَمَتِهِ كُلُّ شَيْ‌ءٍ نَفْسِي وَ أَهْلِي وَ مَالِي وَ وُلْدِي وَ مَنْ يَعْنِينِي أَمْرُهُ حُفَّ بِجَنَاحٍ مِنْ أَجْنِحَةِ جَبْرَئِيلَ ع وَ حُفِظَ فِي نَفْسِهِ وَ أَهْلِهِ وَ مَالِهِ.

قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع ابْتِدَاءً مِنْهُ‌ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ص فَشَكَا الْإِبْطَاءَ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْجَوَابِ فِي دُعَائِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَيْنَ أَنْتَ عَنِ الدُّعَاءِ السَّرِيعِ الْإِجَابَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ مَا هُوَ قَالَ قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ الْعَظِيمِ الْأَعْظَمِ الْأَجَلِّ الْأَكْرَمِ الْمَخْزُونِ الْمَكْنُونِ النُّورِ ال

أَمْلَى عَلَيَّ هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ- أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ هُوَ جَامِعٌ لِلدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ تَقُولُ بَعْدَ حَمْدِ اللَّهِ وَ الثَّنَاءِ عَلَيْهِ- اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ‌ لا إِلهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ‌ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ* وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ‌ الْواحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ* وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ الْجَبَّ

يَا سَعْدُ تَعَلَّمُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِنَّ الْقُرْآنَ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِي أَحْسَنِ صُورَةٍ نَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا الْخَلْقُ وَ النَّاسُ صُفُوفٌ عِشْرُونَ وَ مِائَةُ أَلْفِ صَفٍّ ثَمَانُونَ أَلْفَ صَفٍّ أُمَّةُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَرْبَعُونَ أَلْفَ صَفٍّ مِنْ سَائِرِ الْأُمَمِ فَيَأْتِي عَلَى صَفِّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فِي صُورَةِ رَجُلٍ فَيُسَلِّمُ فَيَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ

يَجِي‌ءُ الْقُرْآنُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِي أَحْسَنِ مَنْظُورٍ إِلَيْهِ صُورَةً فَيَمُرُّ بِالْمُسْلِمِينَ فَيَقُولُونَ هَذَا الرَّجُلُ مِنَّا فَيُجَاوِزُهُمْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّينَ فَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنَّا فَيُجَاوِزُهُمْ إِلَى الْمَلَائِكَةِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ فَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنَّا حَتَّى يَنْتَهِيَ إِلَى رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فَيَقُولُ يَا رَبِّ فُلَانُ بْنُ فُلَانٍ أَظْمَأْتُ هَوَاجِرَهُ‌[2] وَ أَسْهَرْتُ

He will pass by the Muslims who will say, ‘This man is from us.’ He will pass toward the prophets who will say that he is of us, then he will pass toward the special angels who will say that he is one of us until he is before the Lord of Majes

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِذَا جَمَعَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَ الْآخِرِينَ إِذَا هُمْ بِشَخْصٍ قَدْ أَقْبَلَ لَمْ يُرَ قَطُّ أَحْسَنُ صُورَةً مِنْهُ فَإِذَا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَ هُوَ الْقُرْآنُ قَالُوا هَذَا مِنَّا هَذَا أَحْسَنُ شَيْ‌ءٍ رَأَيْنَا فَإِذَا انْتَهَى إِلَيْهِمْ جَازَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ الشُّهَدَاءُ حَتَّى إِذَا انْتَهَى إِلَى آخِرِهِمْ جَازَهُمْ فَيَقُولُونَ هَذ

"When Allah (azwj) will gather together [the people of] the first and last [generation], they will be in the presence of a person whom they have never seen a more beautiful form than him. When the believers look at him, and he is the Quran, they will say, 'This is from us; this is the most beautiful thing we have ever

الْحَافِظُ لِلْقُرْآنِ الْعَامِلُ بِهِ مَعَ السَّفَرَةِ الْكِرَامِ الْبَرَرَةِ.

‘One who has memorized the Holy Quran and acts upon it will be with the honorable and righteous angels.”

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ الْبَيْتُ الَّذِي يُقْرَأُ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ وَ يُذْكَرُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِيهِ تَكْثُرُ بَرَكَتُهُ وَ تَحْضُرُهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَ تَهْجُرُهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ وَ يُضِي‌ءُ لِأَهْلِ السَّمَاءِ كَمَا تُضِي‌ءُ الْكَوَاكِبُ‌[4] لِأَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ وَ إِنَّ الْبَيْتَ الَّذِي لَا يُقْرَأُ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ وَ لَا يُذْكَرُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِيهِ تَقِلُّ بَرَكَتُهُ وَ تَهْجُرُهُ الْمَلَا

مَنْ قَرَأَ آيَةً مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي صَلَاتِهِ قَائِماً يُكْتَبُ لَهُ بِكُلِّ حَرْفٍ مِائَةُ حَسَنَةٍ فَإِذَا قَرَأَهَا فِي غَيْرِ صَلَاةٍ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِكُلِّ حَرْفٍ- عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ وَ إِنِ اسْتَمَعَ الْقُرْآنَ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِكُلِّ حَرْفٍ حَسَنَةً وَ إِنْ خَتَمَ الْقُرْآنَ لَيْلًا صَلَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ وَ إِنْ خَتَمَهُ نَهَاراً صَلَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الْحَفَظَ

“Al-Husayn ibn Ali (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever reads from the Holy Quran in his prayer in a standing position, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, writes down for him the reward for one hundred good deeds for each letter and if one reads from the Holy Quran without being in prayer, Allah writes down for him the rewa

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص‌ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ الْأَعْجَمِيَّ مِنْ أُمَّتِي لَيَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ بِعَجَمِيَّةٍ فَتَرْفَعُهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عَلَى عَرَبِيَّةٍ.

The Prophet (saw) said: "Indeed, a non-Arab man from my nation recites the Quran in a non-Arabic manner, and the angels elevate him to an Arabic level."

لَمَّا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ هَذِهِ الْآيَاتِ أَنْ يَهْبِطْنَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ تَعَلَّقْنَ بِالْعَرْشِ‌[1] وَ قُلْنَ أَيْ رَبِّ إِلَى أَيْنَ تُهْبِطُنَا إِلَى أَهْلِ الْخَطَايَا وَ الذُّنُوبِ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِنَّ أَنِ اهْبِطْنَ فَوَ عِزَّتِي وَ جَلَالِي لَا يَتْلُوكُنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ شِيعَتِهِمْ فِي دُبُرِ مَا افْتَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ إِلّ

“When Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, commanded certain verses of the Holy Quran to descend to earth, they clung to the Throne asking, ‘O Lord, why are You sending us to people of sins and evil deeds.’ Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, inspired them to descend saying, ‘I swear by My Majesty and Glory th

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِنَّ سُورَةَ الْأَنْعَامِ نَزَلَتْ جُمْلَةً شَيَّعَهَا سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ حَتَّى أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ص فَعَظِّمُوهَا وَ بَجِّلُوهَا فَإِنَّ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِيهَا فِي سَبْعِينَ مَوْضِعاً وَ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي قِرَاءَتِهَا مَا تَرَكُوهَا.

“Chapter six ( al-An ’am) was revealed all in one piece escorted by seventy thousand angels until it came down upon Muhammad (a.s.). You must maintain its greatness and respect it. لَقَدْ وَافَى مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفاً وَ فِيهِمْ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع يُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا جَبْرَئِيلُ بِمَا يَسْتَحِقُّ صَلَاتَكُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ بِقِرَاءَتِهِ‌ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ قَائِماً وَ قَاعِداً وَ رَاكِباً وَ مَاشِياً وَ ذَاهِباً وَ جَائِياً.

وَ الَّذِي بَعَثَ مُحَمَّداً ص بِالْحَقِّ وَ أَكْرَمَ أَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ مَا مِنْ شَيْ‌ءٍ تَطْلُبُونَهُ مِنْ حِرْزٍ مِنْ حَرَقٍ أَوْ غَرَقٍ أَوْ سَرَقٍ أَوْ إِفْلَاتِ دَابَّةٍ مِنْ صَاحِبِهَا[2] أَوْ ضَالَّةٍ أَوْ آبِقٍ إِلَّا وَ هُوَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ فَمَنْ أَرَادَ ذَلِكَ فَلْيَسْأَلْنِي عَنْهُ قَالَ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَخْبِرْنِي عَمَّا يُؤْمِنُ مِنَ الْحَرَقِ وَ الْغَرَقِ فَقَالَ

“I swear by the One who sent Muhammad (a.s.) with the truth and honored his family, all supplications for protection is in the Holy Quran. In the Holy Quran there is protection against fire, theft, straying of animals from the owner, lost items, or runaway persons. Whoever wants to know, ask me. The narrator has said t

لَا تَمَلُّوا مِنْ قِرَاءَةِ- إِذا زُلْزِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ زِلْزالَها فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ كَانَتْ قِرَاءَتُهُ بِهَا فِي نَوَافِلِهِ لَمْ يُصِبْهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِزَلْزَلَةٍ أَبَداً وَ لَمْ يَمُتْ بِهَا وَ لَا بِصَاعِقَةٍ وَ لَا بِآفَةٍ مِنْ آفَاتِ الدُّنْيَا حَتَّى يَمُوتَ وَ إِذَا مَاتَ نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ مَلَكٌ كَرِيمٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ رَبِّهِ فَيَقْعُدُ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ فَيَقُولُ يَا مَلَكَ الْمَوْتِ ارْفُقْ بِوَلِيِّ الل

“Do not be dismayed in reading Chapter 99 of the Holy Quran. If one reads it in the optional prayers, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, protects him, all the time, against earthquakes and will not die thereby or by lightening and of worldly calamities until the time of his death.
