سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ كَانَ أَبِي ع يَقُولُ‌ نَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ الَّتِي تُعَجِّلُ الْفَنَاءَ وَ تُقَرِّبُ الْآجَالَ وَ تُخْلِي الدِّيَارَ وَ هِيَ قَطِيعَةُ الرَّحِمِ وَ الْعُقُوقُ وَ تَرْكُ الْبِرِّ.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn Mahbub from Ishaq ibn ‘ Ammar who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) saying, ‘My father would say, “We seek refuge in Allah against the sin that hastens one’s perishing, draws death closer, and vacates the towns. Such sins are failing to maint

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع لِرَجُلٍ‌ اجْعَلْ قَلْبَكَ قَرِيناً بَرّاً- أَوْ وَلَداً وَاصِلًا[1] وَ اجْعَلْ عَمَلَكَ وَالِداً تَتَّبِعُهُ وَ اجْعَلْ نَفْسَكَ عَدُوّاً تُجَاهِدُهَا وَ اجْعَلْ مَالَكَ عَارِيَّةً تَرُدُّهَا.

“Make your heart a virtuous companion for yourself or like a child who does not fail to maintain good relations with parents. Consider your deeds as your father whom you follow, consider your soul as your enemy against whom you strive and consider your properties as borrowed for the safe return of which you are respons

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ‌ إِنْ قَدَرْتَ أَنْ لَا تُعْرَفَ فَافْعَلْ وَ مَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يُثْنِيَ عَلَيْكَ النَّاسُ وَ مَا عَلَيْكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مَذْمُوماً عِنْدَ النَّاسِ إِذَا كُنْتَ مَحْمُوداً عِنْدَ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَالَ أَبِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ع لَا خَيْرَ فِي الْعَيْشِ إِلَّا لِرَجُلَيْنِ رَجُلٍ يَزْدَادُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَيْراً وَ رَجُلٍ يَتَدَارَكُ مَنِيَّتَهُ بِالتَّوْبَةِ وَ أَنَّى

“Once I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘If you can remain unknown, then do so. There will be nothing wrong if people will not praise you. There is nothing wrong for you if people censure you if you are praiseworthy before Allah.’ The Imam said, ‘My father Amir al- Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) has said, “There

إِنَّ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ ضَنَائِنَ يَضَنُّ بِهِمْ عَنِ الْبَلَاءِ[2] فَيُحْيِيهِمْ فِي عَافِيَةٍ وَ يَرْزُقُهُمْ فِي عَافِيَةٍ وَ يُمِيتُهُمْ فِي عَافِيَةٍ وَ يَبْعَثُهُمْ فِي عَافِيَةٍ وَ يُسْكِنُهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ فِي عَافِيَةٍ.

إِنَّ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ ضَنَائِنَ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ يَغْذُوهُمْ بِنِعْمَتِهِ وَ يَحْبُوهُمْ بِعَافِيَتِهِ وَ يُدْخِلُهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ تَمُرُّ بِهِمُ الْبَلَايَا وَ الْفِتَنُ لَا تَضُرُّهُمْ شَيْئاً.

كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع كَثِيراً مَا يَقُولُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ‌ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ دِينَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ‌[3] فَإِنَّ السَّيِّئَةَ فِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْحَسَنَةِ فِي غَيْرِهِ وَ السَّيِّئَةُ فِيهِ تُغْفَرُ وَ الْحَسَنَةُ فِي غَيْرِهِ لَا تُقْبَلُ. هَذَا آخِرُ كِتَابِ الْإِيمَانِ وَ الْكُفْرِ وَ الطَّاعَاتِ وَ الْمَعَاصِي مِنْ كِتَابِ الْكَافِي وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَحْدَهُ وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِه

كَانَ أَبِي إِذَا كَانَتْ لَهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ حَاجَةٌ طَلَبَهَا فِي هَذِهِ السَّاعَةِ يَعْنِي زَوَالَ الشَّمْسِ.

"When my father had a need before Allah (swt), he would ask Him during this hour." - meaning declining of the sun from its peak position (i.e., dhuhr time).

كَانَ أَبِي إِذَا طَلَبَ الْحَاجَةَ طَلَبَهَا عِنْدَ زَوَالِ الشَّمْسِ- فَإِذَا أَرَادَ ذَلِكَ قَدَّمَ شَيْئاً فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهِ وَ شَمَّ شَيْئاً مِنْ طِيبٍ وَ رَاحَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ وَ دَعَا فِي حَاجَتِهِ بِمَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ.

Whenever my father had a need to be fulfilled, he would seek it to be fulfilled during the decline of the sun from its peak position (i.e. dhuhr time). When he intended to do this, he would first give something in charity, wear some perfume, go to the mosque, and then supplicate for his need as Allah willed."

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ مَرَّ بِي رَجُلٌ وَ أَنَا أَدْعُو فِي صَلَاتِي بِيَسَارِي فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بِيَمِينِكَ فَقُلْتُ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى حَقّاً عَلَى هَذِهِ كَحَقِّهِ عَلَى هَذِهِ وَ قَالَ الرَّغْبَةُ تَبْسُطُ يَدَيْكَ وَ تُظْهِرُ بَاطِنَهُمَا وَ الرَّهْبَةُ تَبْسُطُ يَدَيْكَ وَ تُظْهِرُ ظَهْرَهُمَا وَ التَّضَرُّعُ تُحَرِّكُ السَّبَّابَةَ الْيُمْن

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from his father from Fadalah from al-‘Ala’ from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) saying, ‘Once a man passed by when I was praying in my prayer with my left hand raised. The man said, ‘O ‘Abd Allah, (

كَانَ أَبِي ع إِذَا حَزَنَهُ أَمْرٌ[1] جَمَعَ النِّسَاءَ وَ الصِّبْيَانَ ثُمَّ دَعَا وَ أَمَّنُوا.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whenever something saddened my father he would call the ladies and children together. He would then pray and they would say, ‘Amin.’”

سَمِعَ أَبِي رَجُلًا مُتَعَلِّقاً بِالْبَيْتِ وَ هُوَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبِي يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ لَا تَبْتُرْهَا[5] لَا تَظْلِمْنَا حَقَّنَا قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ.

“My father once heard a man, clinging to the Ka’bah, saying, ‘O Lord, grant al-Salat (favors) to Muhammad.’ My father then said to him, ‘O servant of Allah, do not shorten it that way. Do not do injustice to us in our rights. Say, “O Lord, grant al-Salat to Muhammad and his family.’”

مَا مِنْ شَيْ‌ءٍ إِلَّا وَ لَهُ حَدٌّ يَنْتَهِي إِلَيْهِ إِلَّا الذِّكْرَ فَلَيْسَ لَهُ حَدٌّ يَنْتَهِي إِلَيْهِ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ الْفَرَائِضَ فَمَنْ أَدَّاهُنَّ فَهُوَ حَدُّهُنَّ وَ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ فَمَنْ صَامَهُ فَهُوَ حَدُّهُ وَ الْحَجَّ فَمَنْ حَجَّ فَهُوَ حَدُّهُ إِلَّا الذِّكْرَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَمْ يَرْضَ مِنْهُ بِالْقَلِيلِ وَ لَمْ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ حَدّاً يَنْتَهِي إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ تَل

“Everything has a limit where it ends except speaking of Allah which has no limit to end. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has sanctioned obligations. كَانَ أَبِي ع يَقُولُ‌ خَمْسُ دَعَوَاتٍ لَا يُحْجَبْنَ عَنِ الرَّبِّ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى دَعْوَةُ الْإِمَامِ الْمُقْسِطِ وَ دَعْوَةُ الْمَظْلُومِ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَأَنْتَقِمَنَّ لَكَ وَ لَوْ بَعْدَ حِينٍ وَ دَعْوَةُ الْوَلَدِ الصَّالِحِ لِوَالِدَيْهِ وَ دَعْوَةُ الْوَالِدِ الصَّالِحِ لِوَلَدِهِ وَ دَعْوَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ لِأَخِيهِ بِظَهْرِ الْغَيْبِ فَيَقُولُ وَ لَكَ مِثْلُهُ.

“My father (a.s.) has said, ‘Five kinds of prayers are not barred from the Lord, the Most Blessed, the Most High: the prayer of an Imam who is just in his dealings, the prayer of an oppressed as Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has said, “I will revenge for you even if it may come after a long time,” the prayer

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِيَّاكُمْ وَ دَعْوَةَ الْمَظْلُومِ فَإِنَّهَا تُرْفَعُ فَوْقَ السَّحَابِ‌[2] حَتَّى يَنْظُرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهَا فَيَقُولَ ارْفَعُوهَا حَتَّى أَسْتَجِيبَ لَهُ وَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَ دَعْوَةَ الْوَالِدِ فَإِنَّهَا أَحَدُّ مِنَ السَّيْفِ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Beware of the prayer of an oppressed; it climbs over the cloud and Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, looks at it and says, “Raise it up so it is accepted,” and beware of the prayer of a father; it is sharper than a sword.’”

كَانَ أَبِي يَقُولُ‌ اتَّقُوا الظُّلْمَ فَإِنَّ دَعْوَةَ الْمَظْلُومِ تَصْعَدُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ.

“My father (a.s.) would say, ‘Stay away from injustice and oppression; the prayer of an oppressed climbs into the heavens.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ أَرْبَعَةٌ لَا تُرَدُّ لَهُمْ دَعْوَةٌ حَتَّى تُفَتَّحَ لَهُمْ أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ وَ تَصِيرَ إِلَى الْعَرْشِ‌[1] الْوَالِدُ لِوَلَدِهِ وَ الْمَظْلُومُ عَلَى مَنْ ظَلَمَهُ وَ الْمُعْتَمِرُ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ وَ الصَّائِمُ حَتَّى يُفْطِرَ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘The prayers of four people are not turned back before the door to heaven opens and they move to the Throne: the prayer of a father for his son, the prayer of an oppressed against his oppressor, the prayer of one who perfonns ‘Umrah until his returning home and the prayer of a person f

مَنْ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُشْهِدُكَ وَ أُشْهِدُ مَلَائِكَتَكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَ حَمَلَةَ عَرْشِكَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ وَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُكَ وَ رَسُولُكَ وَ أَنَّ فُلَانَ بْنَ فُلَانٍ إِمَامِي وَ وَلِيِّي وَ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ- رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص وَ عَلِيّاً وَ الْحَسَنَ وَ الْحُسَيْنَ وَ فُلَاناً وَ فُلَاناً حَتَّى يَنْتَهِيَ إِلَيْهِ أَئِمَّتِي

مَهْمَا تَرَكْتَ مِنْ شَيْ‌ءٍ فَلَا تَتْرُكْ أَنْ تَقُولَ فِي كُلِّ صَبَاحٍ وَ مَسَاءٍ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ- أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ فِي هَذَا الصَّبَاحِ وَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ لِأَهْلِ رَحْمَتِكَ وَ أَبْرَأُ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ أَهْلِ لَعْنَتِكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ أَبْرَأُ إِلَيْكَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ وَ فِي هَذَا الصَّبَاحِ مِمَّنْ نَحْنُ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَانَيْهِمْ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَ مِمَّا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ‌

“You may give up whatever you give up but do not give up to say every morning and in the evening the following: “O Lord, this morning I seek forgiveness from You on this day for the people of kindness and disavow the people subject to Your condemnation. “O Lord, this morning and on this day I disavow the pagans around

لَا تَدَعْ أَنْ تَدْعُوَ بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ وَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ إِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ- اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي فِي دِرْعِكَ الْحَصِينَةِ الَّتِي تَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَنْ تُرِيدُ فَإِنَّ أَبِي ع كَانَ يَقُولُ هَذَا مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ الْمَخْزُونِ.

“Do not miss saying in the morning and in the evening three times this, ‘O Lord, place me in Your strong coat of arms in which You place whomever You will’; my father would say that this is of the prayer that is treasured.’”

مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَأْخُذُ مَضْجَعَهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي عَلَا فَقَهَرَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بَطَنَ فَخَبَرَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي مَلَكَ فَقَدَرَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي‌ يُحْيِ الْمَوْتى‌* وَ يُمِيتُ الْأَحْيَاءَ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* خَرَجَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ كَهَيْئَةِ يَوْمَ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ.

“Whoever at the time of going to bed says three times, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, Who is High, thus, He is Dominant. All praise belongs to Allah, Who is hidden, thus, He knows. All praise belongs to Allah, Who owns, thus. He has measured (all things), all praise belongs to Allah, Who gives life to the dead, and caus

لَهُ يَا أَبَهْ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَنَامَ فَقَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ قُلْ- أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً ص عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُولُهُ أَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِقُدْرَةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَلَالِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِسُلْطَانِ اللَّهِ‌ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* وَ أَعُوذُ بِعَفْوِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِغُفْرَانِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِرَحْمَةِ ال

“One night the son of Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) came to him and said, ‘Father I want to go to sleep.’ He said son, say, ‘1 testify that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, that Muhammad (a.s.) is the servant and messenger of Allah. I seek protection with the greatness of Allah. I seek protection with majesty of

كَانَ أَبِي ع إِذَا خَرَجَ مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ قَالَ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ* خَرَجْتُ بِحَوْلِ اللَّهِ وَ قُوَّتِهِ لَا بِحَوْلٍ مِنِّي‌[1] وَ لَا قُوَّتِي بَلْ بِحَوْلِكَ وَ قُوَّتِكَ يَا رَبِّ مُتَعَرِّضاً لِرِزْقِكَ فَأْتِنِي بِهِ فِي عَافِيَةٍ.

“My father when coming out of his house would say, ‘(I begin) in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. I have come out by means and power of Allah and not by my own means and power, but, O Lord, by Your power and means, in search for sustenance from You, so grant me sustenance in good health.’”

كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ص يَقُولُ إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنَ الزَّوَالِ‌[1]- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ بِجُودِكَ وَ كَرَمِكَ وَ أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ- بِمُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَ رَسُولِكَ وَ أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ بِمَلَائِكَتِكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَ أَنْبِيَائِكَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَ بِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْغَنِيُّ عَنِّي وَ بِيَ الْفَاقَةُ إِلَيْكَ أَنْتَ الْغَنِيُّ وَ أَنَا الْفَقِيرُ إِلَيْكَ أَقَلْتَنِي عَثْرَتِ

“Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) after completing the prayer at noon time would say, ‘O Lord, I seek nearness to You through Your generosity and magnanimity, I seek nearness to You through Muhammad, Your servant, and Your messenger, I seek nearness to You through Your favorite angels. مَنْ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي‌ يَفْعَلُ ما يَشاءُ وَ لَا يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَاءُ غَيْرُهُ أُعْطِيَ خَيْراً كَثِيراً.

يَقُولُ‌ بَعْدَ الْعِشَاءَيْنِ- اللَّهُمَّ بِيَدِكَ مَقَادِيرُ اللَّيْلِ وَ النَّهَارِ وَ مَقَادِيرُ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ وَ مَقَادِيرُ الْمَوْتِ وَ الْحَيَاةِ وَ مَقَادِيرُ الشَّمْسِ وَ الْقَمَرِ وَ مَقَادِيرُ النَّصْرِ وَ الْخِذْلَانِ وَ مَقَادِيرُ الْغِنَى وَ الْفَقْرِ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لِي فِي دِينِي وَ دُنْيَايَ وَ فِي جَسَدِي وَ أَهْلِي وَ وُلْدِي اللَّهُمَّ ادْرَأْ عَنِّي شَرَّ فَسَقَةِ الْعَرَبِ وَ الْعَ

مَنْ قَالَ فِي دُبُرِ الْفَرِيضَةِ- يَا مَنْ‌ يَفْعَلُ ما يَشاءُ وَ لَا يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَاءُ أَحَدٌ غَيْرُهُ ثَلَاثاً ثُمَّ سَأَلَ أُعْطِيَ مَا سَأَلَ.

9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Mu’awiyah ibn ‘ Ammar who has said the following: “Whoever, after every obligatory prayer says: ‘O the One who does as He wills and does not do as others will,’ three times, and pleads (before Allah) for his wishes they will be granted.’”

كُنْتُ كَثِيراً مَا أَشْتَكِي عَيْنِي فَشَكَوْتُ ذَلِكَ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ‌ ع فَقَالَ أَ لَا أُعَلِّمُكَ دُعَاءً لِدُنْيَاكَ وَ آخِرَتِكَ وَ بَلَاغاً لِوَجَعِ عَيْنَيْكَ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ تَقُولُ فِي دُبُرِ الْفَجْرِ وَ دُبُرِ الْمَغْرِبِ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْكَ‌[1] صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اجْعَلِ النُّورَ فِي بَصَرِي وَ الْبَصِيرَةَ فِي دِي

11. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Muhammad al-Ju’Fi from his father who has said the following: “I often complained about my eyes and once I mentioned it to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) and he said, ‘Should I teach you a supplication that will be for the good of your worldly life and he

كَانَ مِنْ دُعَاءِ أَبِي ع فِي الْأَمْرِ يَحْدُثُ- اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اغْفِرْ لِي وَ ارْحَمْنِي وَ زَكِّ عَمَلِي وَ يَسِّرْ مُنْقَلَبِي وَ اهْدِ قَلْبِي وَ آمِنْ خَوْفِي وَ عَافِنِي فِي عُمُرِي كُلِّهِ وَ ثَبِّتْ حُجَّتِي وَ اغْفِرْ خَطَايَايَ وَ بَيِّضْ وَجْهِي وَ اعْصِمْنِي فِي دِينِي وَ سَهِّلْ مَطْلَبِي وَ وَسِّعْ عَلَيَّ فِي رِزْقِي فَإِنِّي ضَعِيفٌ وَ تَجَاوَزْ عَنْ سَيِّئِ مَا

8. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from A number of our people have narrated in a marfu’ manner from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Of the supplications of my father (a.s.) in an event was this: ‘O Lord, grant al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and his family, forgive me, have me

قَالَ لِي‌ أَ لَا أُعَلِّمُكَ دُعَاءً تَدْعُو بِهِ إِنَّا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ إِذَا كَرَبَنَا أَمْرٌ وَ تَخَوَّفْنَا مِنَ السُّلْطَانِ أَمْراً لَا قِبَلَ لَنَا بِهِ نَدْعُو بِهِ قُلْتُ بَلَى بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَ أُمِّي يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قُلْ- يَا كَائِناً قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ وَ يَا مُكَوِّنَ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ وَ يَا بَاقِي بَعْدَ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ افْعَلْ بِي كَذَا وَ كَذَا.

“The Imam said to me, ‘Should I instinct you with a supplication so you can pray? We are a family that whenever something causes us pain or fear a ruler for something we cannot cope with, we pray to Allah with this supplication.’ I said, ‘Yes, may Allah keep my soul and the souls of my parents in service for your cause

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ص كَانَ يُنَشِّرُ بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ[2] تَضَعُ يَدَكَ عَلَى مَوْضِعِ‌ الْوَجَعِ وَ تَقُولُ أَيُّهَا الْوَجَعُ اسْكُنْ بِسَكِينَةِ اللَّهِ وَ قِرْ بِوَقَارِ اللَّهِ وَ انْحَجِزْ بِحَاجِزِ اللَّهِ وَ اهْدَأْ بِهَدْءِ اللَّهِ‌[1] أُعِيذُكَ أَيُّهَا الْإِنْسَانُ بِمَا أَعَاذَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِهِ عَرْشَهُ وَ مَلَائِكَتَهُ- يَوْمَ الرَّجْفَةِ وَ الزَّلَازِلِ‌[2] تَقُولُ ذَلِكَ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ لَ

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Sadaqa from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Holy Prophet would seek cure with this supplication. He would place his hand over the painful area and say, ‘O pain, calm down by the serenity of Allah, silence by

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ أُعَلِّمُكَ دُعَاءً لَا تَنْسَى الْقُرْآنَ- اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِي‌[3] بِتَرْكِ مَعَاصِيكَ أَبَداً مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي وَ ارْحَمْنِي مِنْ تَكَلُّفِ مَا لَا يَعْنِينِي وَ ارْزُقْنِي حُسْنَ الْمَنْظَرِ فِيمَا يُرْضِيكَ عَنِّي وَ أَلْزِمْ قَلْبِي حِفْظَ كِتَابِكَ كَمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي وَ ارْزُقْنِي أَنْ أَتْلُوَهُ عَلَى النَّحْوِ الَّذِي يُرْضِيكَ عَنِّي اللَّهُمَّ نَوِّرْ بِكِتَابِكَ بَصَرِي وَ اشْرَ

قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي أَخْشَاكَ كَأَنِّي أَرَاكَ وَ أَسْعِدْنِي بِتَقْوَاكَ وَ لَا تُشْقِنِي بِنَشْطِي لِمَعَاصِيكَ وَ خِرْ لِي فِي قَضَائِكَ وَ بَارِكْ لِي فِي‌ قَدَرِكَ حَتَّى لَا أُحِبَّ تَأْخِيرَ مَا عَجَّلْتَ وَ لَا تَعْجِيلَ مَا أَخَّرْتَ وَ اجْعَلْ غِنَايَ فِي نَفْسِي وَ مَتِّعْنِي بِسَمْعِي وَ بَصَرِي وَ اجْعَلْهُمَا الْوَارِثَيْنِ مِنِّي وَ انْصُرْنِي عَلَى مَنْ ظَلَمَنِي وَ أَرِنِي فِيهِ قُدْرَتَكَ يَا

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Isma’Il ibn Sahl from ‘Abd Allah ibn Jundab from his father from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Say, ‘O Lord, make me fear You as if I see You and help me to be pious before You, do not make me miserable because of my energ

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع ادْعُ اللَّهَ لَنَا فَقَالَ- اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْهُمْ صِدْقَ الْحَدِيثِ وَ أَدَاءَ الْأَمَانَةِ وَ الْمُحَافَظَةَ عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ أَحَقُّ خَلْقِكَ أَنْ تَفْعَلَهُ بِهِمُ اللَّهُمَّ وَ افْعَلْهُ بِهِمْ.

13. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from al- Husayn ibn ‘Atiyyah from Zayd ibn al-Sa’Igh who has said the following: “Once I said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) ‘Please, pray to Allah for us.’ The Imam said, ‘O Lord, give them truthfulness in their words (Hadith), safe keeping of their trust

كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ‌ ص يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ مُنَّ عَلَيَّ بِالتَّوَكُّلِ عَلَيْكَ وَ التَّفْوِيضِ إِلَيْكَ وَ الرِّضَا بِقَدَرِكَ وَ التَّسْلِيمِ لِأَمْرِكَ حَتَّى لَا أُحِبَّ تَعْجِيلَ مَا أَخَّرْتَ وَ لَا تَأْخِيرَ مَا عَجَّلْتَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ.

14. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn Mahbub from abu Hamza from Ali ibn al- Husayn (a.s.) who has said the following: “Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) would say, ‘O Lord, oblige me with the ability to place my trust in You and

قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع ابْتِدَاءً مِنْهُ‌ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ص فَشَكَا الْإِبْطَاءَ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْجَوَابِ فِي دُعَائِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَيْنَ أَنْتَ عَنِ الدُّعَاءِ السَّرِيعِ الْإِجَابَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ مَا هُوَ قَالَ قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ الْعَظِيمِ الْأَعْظَمِ الْأَجَلِّ الْأَكْرَمِ الْمَخْزُونِ الْمَكْنُونِ النُّورِ ال

17. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Mu’awiyah ibn ‘ Ammar who has said the following: “Once abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) on his own initiation said to me, ‘O Mu’awiyah, bear in mind that a man once came to Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) complaining of the delay for the answer

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَ لَا تَخُصُّنِي بِدُعَاءٍ قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ قُلْ- يَا وَاحِدُ يَا مَاجِدُ يَا أَحَدُ يَا صَمَدُ يَا مَنْ‌ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَ لَمْ يُولَدْ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُواً أَحَدٌ يَا عَزِيزُ يَا كَرِيمُ يَا حَنَّانُ يَا مَنَّانُ يَا سَامِعَ الدَّعَوَاتِ يَا أَجْوَدَ مَنْ سُئِلَ وَ يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ أَعْطَى يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ قُلْتُ‌ وَ لَقَدْ نادانا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِيبُون

19. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّكُمْ فِي دَارِ هُدْنَةٍ[3] وَ أَنْتُمْ عَلَى ظَهْرِ سَفَرٍ وَ السَّيْرُ بِكُمْ سَرِيعٌ وَ قَدْ رَأَيْتُمُ اللَّيْلَ وَ النَّهَارَ وَ الشَّمْسَ وَ الْقَمَرَ يُبْلِيَانِ كُلَّ جَدِيدٍ وَ يُقَرِّبَانِ كُلَّ بَعِيدٍ وَ يَأْتِيَانِ بِكُلِّ مَوْعُودٍ فَأَعِدُّوا الْجَهَازَ[4] لِبُعْدِ الْمَجَازِ- قَالَ فَقَامَ الْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ مَا د

You have seen night, day, sun and moon turn every new into old, every far near, and bring the

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِنَّ الْعَزِيزَ الْجَبَّارَ أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ كِتَابَهُ وَ هُوَ الصَّادِقُ الْبَارُّ فِيهِ خَبَرُكُمْ وَ خَبَرُ مَنْ قَبْلَكُمْ وَ خَبَرُ مَنْ بَعْدَكُمْ وَ خَبَرُ السَّمَاءِ وَ الْأَرْضِ وَ لَوْ أَتَاكُمْ مَنْ يُخْبِرُكُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ لَتَعَجَّبْتُمْ.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah from Sama’a ibn Mehran who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd (a.s.) has said, the Majestic, the Almighty, has revealed to you His book. It is truthful and virtuous. In it there is news about you, the news of those before you, the news about

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ تَعَلَّمُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ صَاحِبَهُ فِي صُورَةِ شَابٍّ جَمِيلٍ شَاحِبِ اللَّوْنِ فَيَقُولُ لَهُ الْقُرْآنُ‌[1] أَنَا الَّذِي كُنْتُ أَسْهَرْتُ لَيْلَكَ وَ أَظْمَأْتُ هَوَاجِرَكَ وَ أَجْفَفْتُ رِيقَكَ وَ أَسَلْتُ دَمْعَتَكَ أَئُولُ مَعَكَ حَيْثُمَا أُلْتَ وَ كُلُّ تَاجِرٍ مِنْ وَرَاءِ تِجَارَتِهِ وَ أَنَا الْيَوْمَ لَكَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ تِجَارَةِ كُلِّ تَاجِرٍ وَ

3. Through the same chain of narrators it is narrated from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said the following: ‘‘The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Learn the Holy Quran; on the Day of Judgment it will come to his friends in the form of a most beautiful young person of pale complexion and will speak to his friend saying, “

مَنْ قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ فِي الْمُصْحَفِ مُتِّعَ بِبَصَرِهِ وَ خُفِّفَ عَنْ وَالِدَيْهِ وَ إِنْ كَانَا كَافِرَيْنِ.

“If one reads the Holy Quran from a copy, he benefits from his eyesight, and his parents receive relief even if they are unbelievers.”

قِرَاءَةُ الْقُرْآنِ فِي الْمُصْحَفِ تُخَفِّفُ الْعَذَابَ عَنِ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَ لَوْ كَانَا كَافِرَيْنِ.

“Reading of the Holy Quran from a copy relieves suffering punishment of one’s parents even if they are unbelievers.”

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَوْحَى إِلَى مُوسَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ ع إِذَا وَقَفْتَ بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ فَقِفْ مَوْقِفَ الذَّلِيلِ الْفَقِيرِ وَ إِذَا قَرَأْتَ التَّوْرَاةَ فَأَسْمِعْنِيهَا بِصَوْتٍ حَزِينٍ.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ali ibn Ma’bad from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qasim from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, sent revelation to Moses son of ‘Imran, peace be upon him, ‘Whenever you stand before me, do so like

قُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّ أَبِي سَأَلَ جَدَّكَ عَنْ خَتْمِ الْقُرْآنِ فِي كُلِّ لَيْلَةٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ جَدُّكَ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ لَهُ جَدُّكَ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبِي نَعَمْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ فَكَانَ أَبِي يَخْتِمُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ خَتْمَةً فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ثُمَّ خَتَمْتُهُ بَعْدَ أَبِي فَرُبَّمَا زِدْتُ وَ رُبَّمَا نَقَصْتُ عَلَى قَدْرِ فَرَاغِي وَ شُغُلِي وَ نَشَاطِي وَ ك

“Once I asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.) ‘My father once asked your grandfather about reading all of the Holy Quran in one night.’ ‘(Do you mean it to happen) every night?’ Your grandfather inquired. ‘Yes, in the month of Ramadan.’ My father replied. Your grandfather asked him, ‘In the month of Ramadan?’ My father said, ‘Yes

كَانَ أَبِي ص يَقُولُ‌ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ثُلُثُ الْقُرْآنِ وَ قُلْ يا أَيُّهَا الْكافِرُونَ‌ رُبُعُ الْقُرْآنِ.

7. Abu Ali al-Ash’ari has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan ibn Yahya from Ya’qub ibn Shu’ayb from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “My father (a.s.) would say, ‘Chapter 112 of the Holy Quran is one third and Chapter 109 is one forth of the Holy Quran.’”

مَنْ كانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَ الْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلَا يَدَعْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ فِي دُبُرِ[1] الْفَرِيضَةِ- بِ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا جَمَعَ اللَّهُ لَهُ خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ وَ غَفَرَ لَهُ وَ لِوَالِدَيْهِ وَ مَا وَلَدَا.

“Whoever believes in Allah and in the life to come should not ignore reading Chapter 112 ( al-’Ikhlas ) of the Holy Quran after an obligatory prayer. Whoever does so (reads it), Allah will collect for him the good of this and the next life, forgive him, his parents and their children.”

لَقَدْ وَافَى مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفاً وَ فِيهِمْ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع يُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا جَبْرَئِيلُ بِمَا يَسْتَحِقُّ صَلَاتَكُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ بِقِرَاءَتِهِ‌ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ قَائِماً وَ قَاعِداً وَ رَاكِباً وَ مَاشِياً وَ ذَاهِباً وَ جَائِياً.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfali from al-Sakuni from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Holy Prophet performed prayer for Sa’d ibn Mu’adh and said, ‘A delegate of seventy thousand angels was there, among them Jibril (Gabriel) was also there. They all performed prayer

قَالَ أَبِي ع‌ مَا ضَرَبَ رَجُلٌ الْقُرْآنَ بَعْضَهُ بِبَعْضٍ إِلَّا كَفَرَ.

who said: "My father (a.s) said, “Whoever mixes up the Holy Quran becomes an unbeliever.’”

قَالَ أَبِي ع‌ مَا ضَرَبَ رَجُلٌ الْقُرْآنَ بَعْضَهُ بِبَعْضٍ إِلَّا كَفَرَ.

“My father has said, ‘Whoever mixes one part of the Holy Quran with the other part he turns into an unbeliever.’”

سُورَةُ الْمُلْكِ هِيَ الْمَانِعَةُ تَمْنَعُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَ هِيَ مَكْتُوبَةٌ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ سُورَةَ الْمُلْكِ وَ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا فِي لَيْلَتِهِ فَقَدْ أَكْثَرَ وَ أَطَابَ وَ لَمْ يُكْتَبْ بِهَا مِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ وَ إِنِّي لَأَرْكَعُ بِهَا بَعْدَ عِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ وَ أَنَا جَالِسٌ وَ إِنَّ وَالِدِي ع كَانَ يَقْرَأُهَا فِي يَوْمِهِ وَ لَيْلَتِهِ وَ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا إِذَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ فِي قَبْرِهِ نَاكِرٌ

Surah al-Mulk (Chapter 67) is a protector. It protects against the torment of the grave. It ( Surah al-Mulk) is written in the Torah.
