سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ إِذَا دَخَلْتَ مِنْ بَابِ الْبَقِيعِ- فَبَيْتُ عَلِيٍّ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ‌ عَلَيْهِ عَلَى يَسَارِكَ قَدْرَ مَمَرِّ عَنْزٍ مِنَ الْبَابِ‌[1] وَ هُوَ إِلَى جَانِبِ بَيْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص وَ بَابَاهُمَا جَمِيعاً مَقْرُونَانِ.

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘If you enter (the Masjid of the Holy Prophet) through the door of al-Baqi‘, the house of Ali (a.s.), is on your left side, a goat’s passage away from the door. It is by the side of the house of the Messenger of Allah. The doors of both houses are close by.”’

‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “Between my pulpit and my houses is a garden of the gardens of paradise and my pulpit is a passageway of the passageways of paradise. دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَ عَمَّارٌ وَ جَمَاعَةٌ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ص بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَقَالَ مَا مُقَامُكُمْ فَقَالَ عَمَّارٌ قَدْ سَرَّحْنَا ظَهْرَنَا[2] وَ أَمَرْنَا أَنْ نُؤْتَى بِهِ إِلَى خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ يَوْماً فَقَالَ أَصَبْتُمُ الْمُقَامَ فِي بَلَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص وَ الصَّلَاةَ فِي مَسْجِدِهِ وَ اعْمَلُوا لآِخِرَتِكُمْ وَ أَكْثِرُوا لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ قَدْ يَكُونُ كَيِّساً فِي الدُّنْيَا فَيُقَال

إِذَا دَخَلْتَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تُقِيمَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ- الْأَرْبِعَاءَ وَ الْخَمِيسَ وَ الْجُمُعَةَ فَصَلِّ مَا بَيْنَ الْقَبْرِ وَ الْمِنْبَرِ- يَوْمَ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ عِنْدَ الْأُسْطُوَانَةِ الَّتِي تَلِي الْقَبْرَ فَتَدْعُو اللَّهَ عِنْدَهَا وَ تَسْأَلُهُ كُلَّ حَاجَةٍ تُرِيدُهَا فِي آخِرَةٍ أَوْ دُنْيَا وَ الْيَوْمَ الثَّانِيَ عِنْدَ أُسْطُوَانَةِ التَّوْبَةِ وَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ عِنْدَ مَقَ

“Ali ibn Asbat once said to abu al-Hassan (a.s.), and we were listening, ‘We did not disembark in al-Mu‘arras. We then informed ibn al-Qasim ibn al-Fudayl who had not disembarked in al-Mu‘ arras. سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ أَبِي ص عَنْ حُرُوبِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع وَ كَانَ السَّائِلُ مِنْ مُحِبِّينَا فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع بَعَثَ اللَّهُ مُحَمَّداً ص بِخَمْسَةِ أَسْيَافٍ ثَلَاثَةٌ مِنْهَا شَاهِرَةٌ فَلَا تُغْمَدُ حَتَّى تَضَعَ الْحَرْبُ أَوْزارَها وَ لَنْ‌ تَضَعَ الْحَرْبُ أَوْزارَها حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا[2] فَإِذَا طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا آمَنَ النَّاسُ كُلُّهُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ الْ

قُلْتُ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ مَوَالِيكَ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا يُعْطِي السَّيْفَ وَ الْفَرَسَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَأَتَاهُ فَأَخَذَهُمَا مِنْهُ وَ هُوَ جَاهِلٌ بِوَجْهِ السَّبِيلِ ثُمَّ لَقِيَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ أَنَّ السَّبِيلَ مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ لَا يَجُوزُ وَ أَمَرُوهُ بِرَدِّهِمَا فَقَالَ فَلْيَفْعَلْ قَالَ قَدْ طَلَبَ الرَّجُلَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْهُ وَ قِيلَ لَهُ قَدْ شَخَصَ الرَّجُلُ قَالَ فَ

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِلَى الْيَمَنِ وَ قَالَ لِي يَا عَلِيُّ لَا تُقَاتِلَنَّ أَحَداً حَتَّى تَدْعُوَهُ وَ ايْمُ اللَّهِ لَأَنْ يَهْدِيَ اللَّهُ عَلَى يَدَيْكَ رَجُلًا خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِمَّا طَلَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ وَ غَرَبَتْ وَ لَكَ وَلَاؤُهُ يَا عَلِيُّ.

‘The Messenger of Allah sent me to Yemen and said to me, “You must not fight anyone before calling him to Allah. I swear by Allah, if Allah guides through you one man it will be more excellent for you than all the things on which the sun shines and sets. You, O Ali, will have his guardianship.’””
