1. Certain persons of our people have narrated from ibn Jumhur from Muhammad ibn al-Qasim from ibn abu Ya‘fur who has said the following: “Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Do not take Ghusl (bath) from a well in which water from bath houses accumulate, because in it there is water which is used by one born out of wedlock and it does not become clean for seven generations. In it there is water used by one hostile to ’A’immah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam. One who is hostile to ’A’immah, Alayhim al-Salam, is the worse than the two others. Allah has not created a creature more evil than the dog but one hostile to ’A’immah is more worthless than a dog.’ I then asked him (the Imam) about the water of bathhouses from which one involved in sexual activities, children, Jews, Christians and Zoroastrians take Ghusl (bath). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is like canals in which one part of water cleanses the other part.’”

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Yahya from Talhah ibn Zayd who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ’My father would say, “There are two laws about war: (1) During an ongoing war when the enemy is not defeated about the prisoners of war the Imam has the choice to execute, cut off their hands and legs, one of each of the opposite side, without (doing something to) stopping blood flow so that the victim dies by bleeding. This is stated in words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious: ‘The only proper punishment for those who fight against Allah and His Messenger and try to spread evil in the land is to be killed, crucified, or either to have one of their hands and feet cutoff from the opposite sides or to be sent into exile. These are to disgrace them in this life and they will suffer a great torment in the life hereafter.’ (5:33) “Of the choices that Allah has given to the Imam is one and that is execution. There are no different choices.’” “I then asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, ‘. . . or that they are exiled. . . .’ He (the Imam) said it is up to the search and pursuit of the troops until he flees. If the troops capture him certain of the rules that I just describe will be executed in his case. “The other law about war (2) is when it is over and the enemy is defeated. About every prisoner of war that is captured, the Imam has the choice to set them free as favor to them or they pay ransom to set themselves free. The Imam may also decide to keep them as slaves.’”

10. A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Muhammad Bin Suleyman, from Aysam Bin Asheym, from Muawiya Bin Ammar have said the following: Abu Abdullah (AS) said: ‘One day the Prophet (sw) came out having received good news, smiling joyfully. So the people said to him, ‘May Allah keep you smiling for the whole life, O Messenger of Allah, and increase your joy’. The Messenger of Allah (sw) said: ‘There is no day or night except that I receive a gift from Allah. Indeed! Allah has gifted to me in this day of mine with a Gift which He has never Gifted to me the like of it in the past. Gabriel (as) came to me and conveyed greetings to me from my Lord and said: ‘O Muhammad! Allah Mighty and Majestic has chosen seven from the Clan of Hashim that He has never created anyone similar to them from the past nor will He be creating anyone like them in the future. You, O Messenger of Allah are the Chief of the Prophets, and Ali Bin Abu Talib is your Successor and the Chief of the successors, and Al-Hassan and Al-Husayn your grandsons are the Chiefs of the grandsons, and Hamza your uncle is the Chief of the martyrs, and Ja’far the son of your uncle is the flyer in the Paradise flying along with the angels wherever he desires to, and among you all is Al-Qaim behind whom Isa bin Maryam will be praying when Allah sends him down to the earth. 3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Mahziyar from who has narrated the following: “Abu Ja‘far, Alayhi al-Salam, wrote to Ja‘far and Musa, this instruction. ‘In the matter of my commanding you to appoint witnesses to so and so issues; it is because it is for your safety and protection in the next world in matters of executing the will, as it requires, that your parents have made to you and your being kind to your parents. You must remain prudent. You must not change their will and alter it from its original condition because they are no more. May Allah be happy with them. It, however, has remained on your shoulder. Allah, most Blessed, most High, has said in His book, “Whoever intentionally changes the will of a deceased person, he has committed a sin. Allah is All-hearing and All-knowing.” [2:181] ’”
