سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ الْمُؤْمِنُ لَا يَمْضِي عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعُونَ لَيْلَةً إِلَّا عَرَضَ لَهُ أَمْرٌ يَحْزُنُهُ يُذَكَّرُ بِهِ.
“Before forty days pass something causes sadness to a believer to remind him.”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ الْمُؤْمِنُ لَا يَمْضِي عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعُونَ لَيْلَةً إِلَّا عَرَضَ لَهُ أَمْرٌ يَحْزُنُهُ يُذَكَّرُ بِهِ.
“Before forty days pass something causes sadness to a believer to remind him.”
قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَوْ لَا أَنْ يَجِدَ عَبْدِيَ الْمُؤْمِنُ فِي قَلْبِهِ[2] لَعَصَّبْتُ رَأْسَ الْكَافِرِ بِعِصَابَةِ حَدِيدٍ لَا يُصَدَّعُ رَأْسُهُ أَبَداً[3].

It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from ibn Faddal from Muthanna al-Hannat from abu ‘Usamah from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has said, ‘Had my believing servant not felt sadness in his heart, I would have wrapped up the head of the u
أَتَى عَالِمٌ عَابِداً فَقَالَ لَهُ كَيْفَ صَلَاتُكَ فَقَالَ مِثْلِي يُسْأَلُ عَنْ صَلَاتِهِ وَ أَنَا أَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ مُنْذُ كَذَا وَ كَذَا قَالَ فَكَيْفَ بُكَاؤُكَ قَالَ أَبْكِي حَتَّى تَجْرِيَ دُمُوعِي فَقَالَ لَهُ الْعَالِمُ فَإِنَّ ضَحِكَكَ وَ أَنْتَ خَائِفٌ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ بُكَائِكَ وَ أَنْتَ مُدِلٌّ إِنَّ الْمُدِلَّ لَا يَصْعَدُ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ شَيْءٌ[2].
“Once a scholar went to see a worshipper and asked, ‘How are your prayers?’ He (the worshipper) replied, ‘Is a person like me questioned about his prayers? I have been worshipping Allah from such and such times.’ The scholar then asked, ‘How is your weeping?’ He (the worshipper) said, ‘I weep until my tears flow.’ The
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ لَمْ يَتَعَزَّ بِعَزَاءِ اللَّهِ تَقَطَّعَتْ نَفْسُهُ حَسَرَاتٍ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا وَ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ بَصَرَهُ مَا فِي أَيْدِي النَّاسِ كَثُرَ هَمُّهُ وَ لَمْ يُشْفَ غَيْظُهُ وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَرَ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَلَيْهِ نِعْمَةً إِلَّا فِي مَطْعَمٍ أَوْ مَشْرَبٍ أَوْ مَلْبَسٍ فَقَدْ قَصُرَ عَمَلُهُ وَ دَنَا عَذَابُهُ[1].
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘One who is not comforted and satisfied with relief from Allah, his soul will be torn in pieces due to his sorrow for the world. قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع مَثَلُ الْحَرِيصِ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا مَثَلُ دُودَةِ الْقَزِّ كُلَّمَا ازْدَادَتْ مِنَ الْقَزِّ عَلَى نَفْسِهَا لَفّاً كَانَ أَبْعَدَ لَهَا مِنَ الْخُرُوجِ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ غَمّاً[2] وَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَغْنَى الْغِنَى مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِلْحِرْصِ أَسِيراً وَ قَالَ لَا تُشْعِرُوا قُلُوبَكُمُ[3] الِاشْتِغَالَ بِمَا قَدْ فَاتَ فَتَشْغَلُوا أَذْهَانَكُمْ عَنِ الِاسْتِعْدَادِ لِمَا لَمْ يَ
“Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘A person greedy of the worldly things is like a silkworm, the more silk it produces around itself the more difficult it becomes to come out, until it dies in sorrow.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) then said, ‘The richest person is one who is not a captive of greed.’ The Imam has said, ‘Do not allo
مَنْ كَثُرَ اشْتِبَاكُهُ بِالدُّنْيَا كَانَ أَشَدَّ لِحَسْرَتِهِ عِنْدَ فِرَاقِهَا.
“Whoever’ s entanglement with the world is greater his sorrow to leave this world becomes more intense.”
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّ الْحَسْرَةَ وَ النَّدَامَةَ وَ الْوَيْلَ كُلَّهُ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَنْتَفِعْ بِمَا أَبْصَرَهُ وَ لَمْ يَدْرِ مَا الْأَمْرُ الَّذِي هُوَ عَلَيْهِ مُقِيمٌ أَ نَفْعٌ لَهُ أَمْ ضَرٌّ[1] قُلْتُ لَهُ فَبِمَ يُعْرَفُ النَّاجِي مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ قَالَ مَنْ كَانَ فِعْلُهُ لِقَوْلِهِ مُوَافِقاً- فَأُثْبِتَ[2] لَهُ الشَّهَادَةُ بِالنَّجَاةِ وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِعْلُهُ لِقَوْلِهِ مُ
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Sorrow, regret and lamentation strikes one who does not benefit from what he sees and does not know upon what ground is he standing; is it beneficial for him or harmful?’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘May Allah keep my soul in service for your cause, by what means are the ones who have
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا كَثُرَتْ ذُنُوبُهُ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ عِنْدَهُ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا يُكَفِّرُهَا ابْتَلَاهُ بِالْحُزْنِ لِيُكَفِّرَهَا.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘When the sins of a servant (of Allah) increase and he does not have enough good deeds to expiate them, Allah causes him to suffer sadness and depression.’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَا يَزَالُ الْهَمُّ وَ الْغَمُّ بِالْمُؤْمِنِ حَتَّى مَا يَدَعُ لَهُ ذَنْباً.
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Anxiety and sadness continue to trouble a believer until no sin is left in him.’”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ الْمُؤْمِنَ لَيَهْتَمُّ فِي الدُّنْيَا حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ مِنْهَا وَ لَا ذَنْبَ عَلَيْهِ[6].
“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘A believer continues facing anxiety and sadness in this world until he leaves it with no sins in him.’”
لَا يَزَالُ الْهَمُّ وَ الْغَمُّ بِالْمُؤْمِنِ حَتَّى مَا يَدَعُ لَهُ مِنْ ذَنْبٍ.

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع تَرْكُ الْخَطِيئَةِ أَيْسَرُ مِنْ طَلَبِ التَّوْبَةِ وَ كَمْ مِنْ شَهْوَةِ سَاعَةٍ أَوْرَثَتْ حُزْناً طَوِيلًا وَ الْمَوْتُ فَضَحَ الدُّنْيَا فَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ لِذِي لُبٍّ فَرَحاً[4].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) has said, “Avoiding sin is easier than pleading for forgiveness. How many are the cases of very short period of lustful activities that cause prolonged sadness. Death disgraces the world (uncovers its worthlessness) and it has not left any hap
جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَوْصِنِي بِوَجْهٍ مِنْ وُجُوهِ الْبِرِّ أَنْجُو بِهِ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع أَيُّهَا السَّائِلُ اسْتَمِعْ ثُمَّ اسْتَفْهِمْ ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقِنْ ثُمَّ اسْتَعْمِلْ[1] وَ اعْلَمْ أَنَّ النَّاسَ ثَلَاثَةٌ زَاهِدٌ وَ صَابِرٌ وَ رَاغِبٌ فَأَمَّا الزَّاهِدُ فَقَدْ خَرَجَتِ الْأَحْزَانُ وَ الْأَفْرَاحُ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ فَلَا يَفْرَحُ بِشَيْء

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ اصْبِرُوا عَلَى طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ وَ تَصَبَّرُوا عَنْ مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّمَا الدُّنْيَا سَاعَةٌ فَمَا مَضَى فَلَيْسَ تَجِدُ لَهُ سُرُوراً وَ لَا حُزْناً وَ مَا لَمْ يَأْتِ فَلَيْسَ تَعْرِفُهُ فَاصْبِرْ عَلَى تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ الَّتِي أَنْتَ فِيهَا فَكَأَنَّكَ قَدِ اغْتَبَطْتَ[1].
“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Exercise patience in the act of obedience to Allah and dictate yourselves with patience in the matters of disobeying Allah. The world is one hour. ذَكَرَ الرَّغْبَةَ وَ أَبْرَزَ بَاطِنَ رَاحَتَيْهِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ[2] وَ هَكَذَا الرَّهْبَةُ وَ جَعَلَ ظَهْرَ كَفَّيْهِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَ هَكَذَا التَّضَرُّعُ وَ حَرَّكَ أَصَابِعَهُ يَمِيناً وَ شِمَالًا وَ هَكَذَا التَّبَتُّلُ وَ يَرْفَعُ أَصَابِعَهُ مَرَّةً وَ يَضَعُهَا مَرَّةً وَ هَكَذَا الِابْتِهَالُ وَ مَدَّ يَدَهُ تِلْقَاءَ وَجْهِهِ إِلَى الْقِبْلَةِ وَ لَا يَبْتَهِلُ حَتَّى تَجْرِيَ الدَّمْعَةُ.
“Once al-Raghbah (fondness) was mentioned before Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) and he raised his hands to the sky with his palms upward. He then turned the back of his hands upward to the sky and said, “This way is al-Rahbah (expressing anxiety). He moved his fingers right and left and said that such is al-Tadarru’ . He then ra
مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا وَ لَهُ كَيْلٌ وَ وَزْنٌ إِلَّا الدُّمُوعُ فَإِنَّ الْقَطْرَةَ تُطْفِئُ بِحَاراً مِنْ نَارٍ فَإِذَا اغْرَوْرَقَتِ الْعَيْنُ بِمَائِهَا لَمْ يَرْهَقْ وَجْهاً قَتَرٌ وَ لَا ذِلَّةٌ فَإِذَا فَاضَتْ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّارِ وَ لَوْ أَنَّ بَاكِياً بَكَى فِي أُمَّةٍ لَرُحِمُوا[2].
“For everything there is weighing and measuring except tears. One drop of tears can extinguish oceans of fire. If the eyes flood with tears the face will not suffer hardships and humiliation. When tears flow out, Allah makes it forbidden for the fire and if a person weeps in a nation, such nation will receive favors.”
مَا مِنْ عَيْنٍ إِلَّا وَ هِيَ بَاكِيَةٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِلَّا عَيْناً بَكَتْ مِنْ خَوْفِ اللَّهِ وَ مَا اغْرَوْرَقَتْ عَيْنٌ بِمَائِهَا مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَّا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ سَائِرَ جَسَدِهِ عَلَى النَّارِ وَ لَا فَاضَتْ عَلَى خَدِّهِ فَرَهِقَ ذَلِكَ الْوَجْهَ قَتَرٌ وَ لا ذِلَّةٌ وَ مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا وَ لَهُ كَيْلٌ وَ وَزْنٌ إِلَّا الدَّمْعَةُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ و
“Every eye will be weeping on the Day of Judgment except the eye that has wept for fear of Allah. Any eye that is flooded with tears for fear of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, will make it forbidden for the fire to burn the other parts of his body. مَا مِنْ قَطْرَةٍ أَحَبَّ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مِنْ قَطْرَةِ دُمُوعٍ فِي سَوَادِ اللَّيْلِ مَخَافَةً مِنَ اللَّهِ لَا يُرَادُ بِهَا غَيْرُهُ.
“No drop is more beloved to Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, than the drop of tears in the dark night for fear of Allah, and is intended to be just for Him alone.”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا وَ لَهُ كَيْلٌ وَ وَزْنٌ إِلَّا الدُّمُوعُ فَإِنَّ الْقَطْرَةَ مِنْهَا تُطْفِئُ بِحَاراً مِنَ النَّارِ فَإِذَا اغْرَوْرَقَتِ الْعَيْنُ بِمَائِهَا لَمْ يَرْهَقْ وَجْهَهُ قَتَرٌ وَ لا ذِلَّةٌ فَإِذَا فَاضَتْ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّارِ وَ لَوْ أَنَّ بَاكِياً بَكَى فِي أُمَّةٍ لَرُحِمُوا.

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَى مُوسَى ع أَنَّ عِبَادِي لَمْ يَتَقَرَّبُوا إِلَيَّ بِشَيْءٍ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ ثَلَاثِ خِصَالٍ قَالَ مُوسَى يَا رَبِّ وَ مَا هُنَّ قَالَ يَا مُوسَى الزُّهْدُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْوَرَعُ عَنِ الْمَعَاصِي وَ الْبُكَاءُ مِنْ خَشْيَتِي قَالَ مُوسَى يَا رَبِّ فَمَا لِمَنْ صَنَعَ ذَا فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ يَا مُوسَى أَمَّا الزَّاهِدُ
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, sent revelations to Moses that said, “the most beloved of things to Me with which My servants can seek nearness to Me are three things.” Moses then asked, ‘Lord, what are they?’ The Lord said, ‘One’s reduced interest in worldly matters, restrain
قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَكُونُ أَدْعُو فَأَشْتَهِي الْبُكَاءَ وَ لَا يَجِيئُنِي وَ رُبَّمَا ذَكَرْتُ بَعْضَ مَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أَهْلِي فَأَرِقُّ وَ أَبْكِي فَهَلْ يَجُوزُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ فَتَذَكَّرْهُمْ فَإِذَا رَقَقْتَ فَابْكِ وَ ادْعُ رَبَّكَ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى.
‘When I pray and plead before Allah for help, I like to weep but it does not come through, but if I recall members of my family who have died I may feel weeping. Is that permissible?’ The Imam said, ‘Yes, it is permissible. When you recall them and feel like weeping then pray to your Lord, the Most Blessed, the Most Hi
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ بِكَ بُكَاءٌ فَتَبَاكَ[1].
‘If you cannot weep then make a weeping-like face.’”
قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنِّي أَتَبَاكَى فِي الدُّعَاءِ وَ لَيْسَ لِي بُكَاءٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَ لَوْ مِثْلَ رَأْسِ الذُّبَابِ.
“Once I said to Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) ‘In my prayer I can only make a weeping-like face, but weeping does not come through.’ The Imam said, ‘Yes, even (tears) of the size of the head of a fly (are very good).”’
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع لِأَبِي بَصِيرٍ إِنْ خِفْتَ أَمْراً يَكُونُ أَوْ حَاجَةً تُرِيدُهَا فَابْدَأْ بِاللَّهِ وَ مَجِّدْهُ وَ أَثْنِ عَلَيْهِ كَمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ وَ صَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ص وَ سَلْ حَاجَتَكَ وَ تَبَاكَ وَ لَوْ مِثْلَ رَأْسِ الذُّبَابِ إِنَّ أَبِي ع كَانَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ أَقْرَبَ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنَ الرَّبِّ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ هُوَ سَاجِدٌ بَاكٍ.
10. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Ali ibn abu Hamza who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said to abu Basir, ‘If you are afraid of something or need help, then begin with Allah and His glory and praise Him as He deserves. إِنْ لَمْ يَجِئْكَ الْبُكَاءُ فَتَبَاكَ فَإِنْ خَرَجَ مِنْكَ مِثْلُ رَأْسِ الذُّبَابِ فَبَخْ بَخْ[1].
“If weeping does not come through, make a weeping-like face. If of the size of the head of a fly tears come out that is your sheer good luck indeed.”
رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ جُنْدَبٍ فِي الْمَوْقِفِ فَلَمْ أَرَ مَوْقِفاً كَانَ أَحْسَنَ مِنْ مَوْقِفِهِ مَا زَالَ مَادّاً يَدَيْهِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَ دُمُوعُهُ تَسِيلُ عَلَى خَدَّيْهِ حَتَّى تَبْلُغَ الْأَرْضَ فَلَمَّا صَدَرَ النَّاسُ قُلْتُ لَهُ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ مَا رَأَيْتُ مَوْقِفاً قَطُّ أَحْسَنَ مِنْ مَوْقِفِكَ قَالَ وَ اللَّهِ مَا دَعَوْتُ إِلَّا لِإِخْوَانِي وَ ذَلِكَ أَنَّ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى ع- أَخ
“Once I saw ‘Abd Allah ibn Jundab in ‘Arafat but I had not seen any stay (spending the ninth day of Dulhajj) in ‘Arafat better than that. He continued stretching his hands to the sky and his tears flow on his both cheeks all the way to the ground. When people left I said to him, ‘O abu Muhammad, I have never seen a won
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ الْمَغْرِبَ فَأَمِرَّ يَدَكَ عَلَى جَبْهَتِكَ وَ قُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لا إِلهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَ الشَّهادَةِ ... الرَّحْمنُ الرَّحِيمُ اللَّهُمَّ أَذْهِبْ عَنِّي الْهَمَّ وَ الْغَمَّ وَ الْحَزَنَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ.

كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ع يَدْعُو بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُسْنَ الْمَعِيشَةِ مَعِيشَةً أَتَقَوَّى بِهَا عَلَى جَمِيعِ حَوَائِجِي وَ أَتَوَصَّلُ بِهَا فِي الْحَيَاةِ إِلَى آخِرَتِي مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ تُتْرِفَنِي فِيهَا فَأَطْغَى أَوْ تَقْتُرَ بِهَا عَلَيَّ فَأَشْقَى- أَوْسِعْ عَلَيَّ مِنْ حَلَالِ رِزْقِكَ وَ أَفِضْ عَلَيَّ مِنْ سَيْبِ فَضْلِكَ[4] نِعْمَةً مِنْكَ سَابِغَةً وَ عَطَاءً غَي

قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ع يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ مَا لَكَ إِذَا أَتَى بِكَ أَمْرٌ تَخَافُهُ أَنْ لَا تَتَوَجَّهَ إِلَى بَعْضِ زَوَايَا بَيْتِكَ يَعْنِي الْقِبْلَةَ فَتُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ تَقُولَ يَا أَبْصَرَ النَّاظِرِينَ وَ يَا أَسْمَعَ السَّامِعِينَ وَ يَا أَسْرَعَ الْحَاسِبِينَ وَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتَ بِهَذِهِ الْكَلِمَاتِ مَرَّةً سَأَلْتَ حَاجَةً.
“O abu Hamza, if you will face something that frightens you, go to a comer of your home, face the Qiblah and perform two Rak’at (a prayer consisting of two times bowing on one’s knees) prayer then say, ‘O the most sharp-sighted of the on-lookers, O the most kind of hearing of the hearers, O the quickest to judge and O
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ أَصَابَهُ هَمٌّ أَوْ غَمٌّ أَوْ كَرْبٌ أَوْ بَلَاءٌ أَوْ لَاوَاءٌ-[1] فَلْيَقُلِ اللَّهُ رَبِّي وَ لَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئاً تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى الْحَيِّ الَّذِي لا يَمُوتُ.
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever suffers from sorrow, pain, misfortune or poverty should say, “Allah is My Lord and I do not associate any partner with Him, I place my trust in the Living One who does not die.’”
إِذَا نَزَلَتْ بِرَجُلٍ نَازِلَةٌ أَوْ شَدِيدَةٌ أَوْ كَرَبَهُ أَمْرٌ فَلْيَكْشِفْ عَنْ رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ وَ لْيُلْصِقْهُمَا بِالْأَرْضِ وَ لْيُلْزِقْ جُؤْجُؤَهُ بِالْأَرْضِ[2] ثُمَّ لْيَدْعُ بِحَاجَتِهِ وَ هُوَ سَاجِدٌ.
“If one suffers from a misfortune, a hardship, or something causes him pain he should uncover his knees, and elbows and touch the ground with his chest then plead before Allah for help, in a prostrating position.’”
لَمَّا طَرَحَ إِخْوَةُ يُوسُفَ- يُوسُفَ فِي الْجُبِّ أَتَاهُ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ يَا غُلَامُ مَا تَصْنَعُ هَاهُنَا فَقَالَ إِنَّ إِخْوَتِي أَلْقَوْنِي فِي الْجُبِّ قَالَ فَتُحِبُّ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ مِنْهُ قَالَ ذَاكَ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِنْ شَاءَ أَخْرَجَنِي قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ لَكَ ادْعُنِي بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ حَتَّى أُخْرِجَكَ مِنَ الْجُبِّ فَقَالَ لَهُ وَ مَا

أَنَّ الَّذِي دَعَا بِهِ- أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَلَى دَاوُدَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ حِينَ قَتَلَ الْمُعَلَّى بْنَ خُنَيْسٍ وَ أَخَذَ مَالَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِنُورِكَ الَّذِي لَا يُطْفَى وَ بِعَزَائِمِكَ الَّتِي لَا تُخْفَى وَ بِعِزِّكَ الَّذِي لَا يَنْقَضِي وَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ الَّتِي لَا تُحْصَى وَ بِسُلْطَانِكَ الَّذِي كَفَفْتَ بِهِ- فِرْعَوْنَ عَنْ مُوسَى ع.

تَغْتَسِلُ وَ تُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَ تَقُولُ يَا فَارِجَ الْهَمِّ وَ يَا كَاشِفَ الْغَمِّ يَا رَحْمَانَ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ وَ رَحِيمَهُمَا فَرِّجْ هَمِّي وَ اكْشِفْ غَمِّي يَا اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ الَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَ لَمْ يُولَدْ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُواً أَحَدٌ اعْصِمْنِي وَ طَهِّرْنِي وَ اذْهَبْ بِبَلِيَّتِي وَ اقْرَأْ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ وَ الْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ.

كَانَ مِنْ دُعَاءِ أَبِي ع فِي الْأَمْرِ يَحْدُثُ- اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اغْفِرْ لِي وَ ارْحَمْنِي وَ زَكِّ عَمَلِي وَ يَسِّرْ مُنْقَلَبِي وَ اهْدِ قَلْبِي وَ آمِنْ خَوْفِي وَ عَافِنِي فِي عُمُرِي كُلِّهِ وَ ثَبِّتْ حُجَّتِي وَ اغْفِرْ خَطَايَايَ وَ بَيِّضْ وَجْهِي وَ اعْصِمْنِي فِي دِينِي وَ سَهِّلْ مَطْلَبِي وَ وَسِّعْ عَلَيَّ فِي رِزْقِي فَإِنِّي ضَعِيفٌ وَ تَجَاوَزْ عَنْ سَيِّئِ مَا

قَالَ[1]: إِذَا أَحْزَنَكَ أَمْرٌ فَقُلْ فِي آخِرِ سُجُودِكَ- يَا جَبْرَئِيلُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ يَا جَبْرَئِيلُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ تُكَرِّرُ ذَلِكَ- اكْفِيَانِي مَا أَنَا فِيهِ فَإِنَّكُمَا كَافِيَانِ وَ احْفَظَانِي بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّكُمَا حَافِظَانِ.
“When something causes you sadness, say in your last Sajdah (prostration); ‘O Jibril (Gabriel), O Muhammad, O Jibril (Gabriel), O Muhammad (a.s.) repeat these words, suffice me in the condition I am; you both are sufficient for me, protect me by the permission of Allah; you both are protectors.’”
كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ع يَقُولُ مَا أُبَالِي إِذَا قُلْتُ هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَاتِ لَوِ اجْتَمَعَ عَلَيَّ الْإِنْسُ وَ الْجِنُّ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَ بِاللَّهِ وَ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَ عَلَى مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص اللَّهُمَّ إِلَيْكَ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَ إِلَيْكَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي وَ إِلَيْكَ أَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي وَ إِلَيْكَ فَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْنِي بِحِفْظِ الْإِي
“Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) would say, ‘Even if all human beings and Jinns will gather together against me I will not be concerned at all after saying these words: “In the name of Allah, with Allah, from Allah, to Allah, in the way of Allah, and upon the religion of the Messenger of Allah, O Lord, to You I have submitted

لَمَّا قَدِمَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ أَقَامَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مَوْلًى لَهُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ وَ قَالَ لَهُ إِذَا دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ فَاضْرِبْ عُنُقَهُ فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع نَظَرَ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ وَ أَسَرَّ شَيْئاً فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ نَفْسِهِ لَا يَدْرِي مَا هُوَ ثُمَّ أَظْهَرَ يَا مَنْ يَكْفِي خَلْقَهُ كُلَّهُمْ وَ لَا يَكْفِيهِ أَحَدٌ اكْفِنِي شَرَّ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِي

قَالَ لِي أَ لَا أُعَلِّمُكَ دُعَاءً تَدْعُو بِهِ إِنَّا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ إِذَا كَرَبَنَا أَمْرٌ وَ تَخَوَّفْنَا مِنَ السُّلْطَانِ أَمْراً لَا قِبَلَ لَنَا بِهِ نَدْعُو بِهِ قُلْتُ بَلَى بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَ أُمِّي يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قُلْ- يَا كَائِناً قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَ يَا مُكَوِّنَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَ يَا بَاقِي بَعْدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ افْعَلْ بِي كَذَا وَ كَذَا.

كَتَبَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ الْغَنَوِيُّ إِلَيَّ يَسْأَلُنِي أَنْ أَكْتُبَ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع فِي دُعَاءٍ يُعَلِّمُهُ يَرْجُو بِهِ الْفَرَجَ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَمَّا مَا سَأَلَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ مِنْ تَعْلِيمِهِ دُعَاءً يَرْجُو بِهِ الْفَرَجَ فَقُلْ لَهُ يَلْزَمُ يَا مَنْ يَكْفِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَ لَا يَكْفِي مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ اكْفِنِي مَا أَهَمَّنِي مِمَّا أَنَا فِيهِ فَإِنِّي أَرْجُو أَنْ يُكْفَى مَا ه
