Prayer

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ الْجُمُعَةَ عَلَى غَيْرِهَا مِنَ الْأَيَّامِ وَ إِنَّ الْجِنَانَ لَتُزَخْرَفُ وَ تُزَيَّنُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ لِمَنْ أَتَاهَا وَ إِنَّكُمْ تَتَسَابَقُونَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ عَلَى قَدْرِ سَبْقِكُمْ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ وَ إِنَّ أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ لَتُفَتَّحُ لِصُعُودِ أَعْمَالِ الْعِبَادِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah has given excellence to Friday over other days. On Friday, decoration and beautification takes place in paradise for those who attend it (Friday). You race to paradise proportionate to the degree of your attending Friday. On Friday the doors of heavens open for the deeds of serv

قُلْتُ لَهُ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ‌ فَاسْعَوْا إِلى‌ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ‌[1] قَالَ اعْمَلُوا وَ عَجِّلُوا فَإِنَّهُ يَوْمٌ مُضَيَّقٌ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ فِيهِ وَ ثَوَابُ أَعْمَالِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فِيهِ عَلَى قَدْرِ مَا ضُيِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَ الْحَسَنَةُ وَ السَّيِّئَةُ تُضَاعَفُ فِيهِ قَالَ وَ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع وَ اللَّهِ لَقَدْ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ ص كَانُوا يَتَجَهَّزُونَ لِلْجُمُعَةِ يَوْمَ ال

“I asked abu Ja’far (a.s.), about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, ‘Hasten to remember Allah. . . .’ (62:9). He replied, ‘It means do good deeds and do it promptly; it is a busy day for the Muslims. The reward for the deeds of the Muslims is proportionate to the degree of its business. Both goo

مَا طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ‌ بِيَوْمٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ إِنَّ كَلَامَ الطَّيْرِ فِيهِ إِذَا الْتَقَى بَعْضُهَا بَعْضاً سَلَامٌ سَلَامٌ يَوْمٌ صَالِحٌ.

“Abu Ja’far or abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘There is no other day on which sun shines more excellent than Friday. The words of birds, on meeting each other, on this day are, “Peace, peace. It is a good day.’””

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع السَّاعَةُ الَّتِي فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ الَّتِي لَا يَدْعُو فِيهَا مُؤْمِنٌ إِلَّا اسْتُجِيبَ لَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ إِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ قُلْتُ إِنَّ الْإِمَامَ يُعَجِّلُ وَ يُؤَخِّرُ قَالَ إِذَا زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ‌[1].

قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ يَا عُمَرُ إِنَّهُ إِذَا كَانَ لَيْلَةُ الْجُمُعَةِ نَزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَلَائِكَةٌ بِعَدَدِ الذَّرِّ فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ أَقْلَامُ الذَّهَبِ وَ قَرَاطِيسُ الْفِضَّةِ لَا تَكْتُبُونَ إِلَى لَيْلَةِ السَّبْتِ إِلَّا الصَّلَاةَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ص فَأَكْثِرْ مِنْهَا وَ قَالَ يَا عُمَرُ إِنَّ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ فِي كُلِّ

قُلْتُ لَهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَقْصَرُ الْأَيَّامِ قَالَ كَذَلِكَ هُوَ قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ كَيْفَ ذَاكَ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى يَجْمَعُ أَرْوَاحَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ تَحْتَ عَيْنِ الشَّمْسِ فَإِذَا رَكَدَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَذَّبَ اللَّهُ أَرْوَاحَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ بِرُكُودِ الشَّمْسِ سَاعَةً فَإِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ لَا يَكُونُ لِلشَّمْسِ رُكُودٌ رَفَعَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمُ الْعَذَابَ

“I once asked al-Rida’ (a.s.), ‘Is it true, as I have heard that Friday is the shortest day?’

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ لِيَتَزَيَّنْ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ يَغْتَسِلُ وَ يَتَطَيَّبُ وَ يُسَرِّحُ لِحْيَتَهُ وَ يَلْبَسُ أَنْظَفَ ثِيَابِهِ وَ لْيَتَهَيَّأْ لِلْجُمُعَةِ وَ لْيَكُنْ عَلَيْهِ فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ السَّكِينَةُ وَ الْوَقَارُ وَ لْيُحْسِنْ عِبَادَةَ رَبِّهِ وَ لْيَفْعَلِ الْخَيْرَ مَا اسْتَطَاعَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَطَّلِعُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ لِيُضَاعِفَ الْحَسَنَاتِ.

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ‌ مَنْ أَخَذَ مِنْ شَارِبِهِ وَ قَلَّمَ مِنْ أَظْفَارِهِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ عَلَى سُنَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِكُلِّ شَعْرَةٍ وَ كُلِّ قُلَامَةٍ[1] عِتْقَ رَقَبَةٍ وَ لَمْ يَمْرَضْ مَرَضاً يُصِيبُهُ إِلَّا مَرَضَ الْمَوْتِ.

“I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘One may, on Friday trim his mustache and fingernails. In so doing if one says, “(I do this) in the name of Allah and because of the Sunnah (traditions) of the Holy Prophet, Muhammad, and his family,” Allah writes for him for every hair and piece of fingernail a reward equal to free

الْغُسْلُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ عَلَى الرِّجَالِ وَ النِّسَاءِ فِي الْحَضَرِ وَ عَلَى الرِّجَالِ فِي السَّفَرِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Both men and women should take a shower on Friday when at home. On the journey men should take a shower on Friday.’”

قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع‌ لَا تَدَعِ الْغُسْلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَإِنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ وَ شَمَّ الطِّيبَ وَ الْبَسْ صَالِحَ ثِيَابِكَ وَ لْيَكُنْ فَرَاغُكَ مِنَ الْغُسْلِ قَبْلَ الزَّوَالِ فَإِذَا زَالَتْ فَقُمْ وَ عَلَيْكَ السَّكِينَةَ وَ الْوَقَارَ وَ قَالَ الْغُسْلُ وَاجِبٌ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah who has narrated the following: “Abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You must not ignore Ghusl (bath) on Friday; it is a sunnah. You should use perfumes, dress up in you proper dress and you should complete your Ghusl (bat

أَخْذُ الشَّارِبِ وَ الْأَظْفَارِ وَ غَسْلُ الرَّأْسِ بِالْخِطْمِيِّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ يَنْفِي الْفَقْرَ وَ يَزِيدُ فِي الرِّزْقِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Trimming one’s mustache, fingernails and applying al- Khatmi (officinal or marshmallow) to one’s head on Friday removes one’s poverty and increases one’s sustenance.’”

مَنْ أَخَذَ مِنْ شَارِبِهِ وَ قَلَّمَ مِنْ أَظْفَارِهِ وَ غَسَلَ رَأْسَهُ بِالْخِطْمِيِّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ كَانَ كَمَنْ أَعْتَقَ نَسَمَةً.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One who trims his mustache and fingernails and washes his head with marshmallow on Friday, he is like one who sets free a human being.’”

أَخْذُ الشَّارِبِ وَ الْأَظْفَارِ مِنَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ أَمَانٌ مِنَ الْجُذَامِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Trimming one’s mustache, and fingernails every Friday is protection against leprosy.’”

قُلْنَا لَهُ أَ يُجْزِئُ إِذَا اغْتَسَلْتُ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ لِلْجُمُعَةِ قَالَ نَعَمْ.

“ We once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), if taking Ghusl (bath) after dawn on Friday is sufficient. He (the Imam) replied, ’Yes it is sufficient.’”

لَا بُدَّ مِنْ غُسْلِ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فِي الْحَضَرِ وَ السَّفَرِ فَمَنْ نَسِيَ فَلْيُعِدْ مِنَ الْغَدِ. - وَ رُوِيَ‌ فِيهِ رُخْصَةٌ لِلْعَلِيلِ.

9. Flammad has narrated from Flariz from certain persons of our people who has narrated the following: Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Taking Ghusl (bath) on Friday is necessary, regardless of whether one is at home or on a journey. If one forgets, one must take Ghusl (bath) the next day. In the case of a person sufferin

غَسْلُ الرَّأْسِ بِالْخِطْمِيِّ فِي كُلِّ جُمُعَةٍ أَمَانٌ مِنَ الْبَرَصِ وَ الْجُنُونِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Washing one’s head with marshmallow every Friday is protection against leprosy and insanity.’” (The following chapters are best explained by fatwa.)

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فَرَضَ فِي كُلِّ سَبْعَةِ أَيَّامٍ خَمْساً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ صَلَاةً مِنْهَا صَلَاةٌ وَاجِبَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَشْهَدَهَا إِلَّا خَمْسَةً الْمَرِيضَ وَ الْمَمْلُوكَ وَ الْمُسَافِرَ وَ الْمَرْأَةَ وَ الصَّبِيَّ.

‘In every seven days Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has made thirty-five Salah (prayer) obligatory upon every Muslim to attend except five kinds of people: Those suffering from illness, slaves, travelers, women and children.’”

تَجِبُ الْجُمُعَةُ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ مِنْهَا عَلَى فَرْسَخَيْنِ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘Friday Salah (prayer) is not obligatory upon those who are two farsakh (about six miles) away (from the location of the congregation).”’

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ تَجِبُ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ مِنْهَا عَلَى رَأْسِ فَرْسَخَيْنِ فَإِذَا زَادَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْ‌ءٌ.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘It (Friday Salah (prayer)) is obligatory up on those who live within two farsakh. If the distance is more than this then it is not obligatory on him.’”

كَانَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع يَقُولُ‌ لَا تَكُونُ الْخُطْبَةُ وَ الْجُمُعَةُ وَ صَلَاةُ رَكْعَتَيْنِ عَلَى أَقَلَّ مِنْ خَمْسَةِ رَهْطٍ الْإِمَامِ وَ أَرْبَعَةٍ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘The sermons and Friday Salah (prayer) are not valid without the presence of five people, the fifth of whom is the Imam.’”

أَدْنَى مَا يُجْزِئُ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ سَبْعَةٌ أَوْ خَمْسَةٌ أَدْنَاهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Minimum number of attending people for Friday Salah (prayer) is seven or at least five people.’”

فَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ مِنَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ خَمْساً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ صَلَاةً مِنْهَا صَلَاةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَرَضَهَا اللَّهُ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ وَ هِيَ الْجُمُعَةُ وَ وَضَعَهَا عَنْ تِسْعَةٍ عَنِ الصَّغِيرِ وَ الْكَبِيرِ[1] وَ الْمَجْنُونِ وَ الْمُسَافِرِ وَ الْعَبْدِ وَ الْمَرْأَةِ وَ الْمَرِيضِ وَ الْأَعْمَى وَ مَنْ كَانَ عَلَى رَأْسِ فَرْسَخَيْنِ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘From one Friday to the next Friday Allah has made thirty- five Salah (prayer) obligatory. Of these one is made obligatory to be performed in congregation and that is Friday Salah (prayer). يَكُونُ بَيْنَ الْجَمَاعَتَيْنِ ثَلَاثَةُ أَمْيَالٍ يَعْنِي لَا يَكُونُ جُمُعَةٌ إِلَّا فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَمْيَالٍ‌[2] وَ لَيْسَ تَكُونُ جُمُعَةٌ إِلَّا بِخُطْبَةٍ قَالَ فَإِذَا كَانَ بَيْنَ الْجَمَاعَتَيْنِ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ ثَلَاثَةُ أَمْيَالٍ فَلَا بَأْسَ بِأَنْ يُجَمِّعَ هَؤُلَاءِ وَ يُجَمِّعَ هَؤُلَاءِ[3].

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘There must be a distance of three miles between two congregations for Friday Salah (prayer). Friday Salah (prayer) without sermon is not valid. If there is a distance of three miles between two congregation for Friday Salah (prayer), then each congregation can come together (for Friday Sa

وَقْتُ الظُّهْرِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ حِينَ تَزُولُ الشَّمْسُ‌[1].

“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The time of al-Dhuhr on Friday begins at Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime).”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَابْدَأْ بِالْمَكْتُوبَةِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘On Friday when it is Zawal (declining of the sun to ward the west at noontime), then you can begin the obligatory Salah (prayer).”’

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ وَقْتِ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ فِي مِثْلِ وَقْتِ الظُّهْرِ فِي غَيْرِ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ.

‘It is at the time of al-Dhuhr Salah (prayer) during the days other than Fridays.’”

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ نَزَلَ بِهَا جَبْرَئِيلُ ع مُضَيَّقَةً إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَصَلِّهَا قَالَ قُلْتُ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ صَلَّيْتُ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُهَا فَقَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَمَّا أَنَا إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ لَمْ أَبْدَأْ بِشَيْ‌ءٍ قَبْلَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ قَالَ الْقَاسِمُ وَ كَانَ ابْنُ بُكَيْرٍ يُصَلِّي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ وَ هُو

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Salah (prayer) of Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘ Jibril brought it with a short period of time. When it is Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime) then perform it.’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘When it is Zawal, must I perform two Rak‘at, then Friday Salah (pr

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ يَنْبَغِي لِلْإِمَامِ الَّذِي يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ- يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَنْ يَلْبَسَ عِمَامَةً فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَ الصَّيْفِ وَ يَتَرَدَّى بِبُرْدٍ يَمَنِيٍّ أَوْ عَدَنِيٍّ وَ يَخْطُبَ وَ هُوَ قَائِمٌ يَحْمَدُ اللَّهَ وَ يُثْنِي عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يُوصِي بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَ يَقْرَأُ سُورَةً مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ صَغِيرَةً ثُمَّ يَجْلِسُ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيَحْمَدُ اللَّهَ وَ يُثْنِي عَلَيْهِ وَ يُصَلِّي

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is desirable for the Imam who delivers sermons for the people on Friday to wear turban in winter and a Yamaniy or ‘Adaniy gown. He must deliver the sermon in a standing position. In it he praises Allah and speaks of His glory, then advises people to observe piety (taqwa’) before Al

إِذَا خَطَبَ الْإِمَامُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَلَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ الْإِمَامُ مِنْ خُطْبَتِهِ وَ إِذَا فَرَغَ الْإِمَامُ مِنَ الْخُطْبَتَيْنِ تَكَلَّمَ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ أَنْ تُقَامَ الصَّلَاةُ فَإِنْ سَمِعَ الْقِرَاءَةَ أَوْ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ أَجْزَأَهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When the Imam delivers the sermon on Friday, it is not desirable for anyone to speak until he completes the sermon. When the Imam completes the sermons he can speak until Salah (prayer) begins, regardless of whether he hears the recitation or not; it is sufficient.’”

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ خُطْبَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص أَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ أَوْ بَعْدُ فَقَالَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ يَخْطُبُ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي.

‘The Messenger of Allah would first deliver sermons, then perform Salah (prayer).”’

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ أَمَّا مَعَ الْإِمَامِ فَرَكْعَتَانِ وَ أَمَّا مَنْ يُصَلِّي وَحْدَهُ فَهِيَ أَرْبَعُ رَكَعَاتٍ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الظُّهْرِ يَعْنِي إِذَا كَانَ إِمَامٌ يَخْطُبُ فَأَمَّا إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ إِمَامٌ يَخْطُبُ فَهِيَ أَرْبَعُ رَكَعَاتٍ وَ إِنْ صَلَّوْا جَمَاعَةً.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Salah (prayer) on Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘With Imam it is two Rak‘at but if one performs it alone, it is four Rak‘at like al-Dhuhr Salah (prayer). If there is an Imam he delivers a speech but if the Imam who delivers a speech is not there, then it is four Rak‘at even if p

فِي خُطْبَةِ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ الْخُطْبَةُ الْأُولَى- الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ نَحْمَدُهُ وَ نَسْتَعِينُهُ وَ نَسْتَغْفِرُهُ وَ نَسْتَهْدِيهِ وَ نَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَ مِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا مَنْ يَهْدِي اللَّهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ وَ مَنْ يُضْلِلْ‌ فَلا هادِيَ لَهُ‌ وَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُولُهُ انْتَجَبَه

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ بِأَذَانٍ وَ إِقَامَةٍ يَخْرُجُ الْإِمَامُ بَعْدَ الْأَذَانِ فَيَصْعَدُ الْمِنْبَرَ وَ يَخْطُبُ لَا يُصَلِّي النَّاسُ مَا دَامَ الْإِمَامُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ ثُمَّ يَقْعُدُ الْإِمَامُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ قَدْرَ مَا يَقْرَأُ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيَفْتَتِحُ خُطْبَتَهُ ثُمَّ يَنْزِلُ فَيُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ بِهِمْ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى بِالْجُمُعَةِ و

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘It has Adhan and ‘Iqamah and the Imam comes out after Adhan, climbs the pulpit and delivers the sermon. People do not perform Salah (prayer) until the Imam is on the pulpit. He then sits on the pulpit for a time, which takes one to read Chapter 112

فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ وَ الْجُمُعَةِ.

"It refers to both Eids and Friday."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ كُلُّ وَاعِظٍ قِبْلَةٌ يَعْنِي إِذَا خَطَبَ الْإِمَامُ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ يَنْبَغِي لِلنَّاسِ أَنْ يَسْتَقْبِلُوهُ.[3]

The Messenger of Allah has said, “All preachers are al- Qiblah, which means when the Imam delivers the sermon for the people on Friday it is appropriate for people to turn their faces to him.’”” (The following chapter is best explained in the form of fatwa.)

لَيْسَ فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ شَيْ‌ءٌ مُوَقَّتٌ إِلَّا الْجُمُعَةِ تُقْرَأُ بِالْجُمُعَةِ وَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ.

The recitation is not definite texts except on Friday in which there is Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and al-Munafiqun.’”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ اقْرَأْ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ بِالْجُمُعَةِ وَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى‌ وَ فِي الْفَجْرِ بِسُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ بِالْجُمُعَةِ وَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘On Friday night recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and Sabbih Isma Rabbika al-‘A‘la In Friday morning recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and Chapter 112, and in Friday Salah (prayer) recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and al-Munafiqun.’”

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع بِمَا أَقْرَأُ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ اقْرَأْ فِي الْأُولَى بِسُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ثُمَّ اقْنُتْ حَتَّى تَكُونَا سَوَاءً.

‘In the first Rak‘at recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and in the second Rak‘at recite Chapter 112 then read Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) so both become equal.’”

إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَكْرَمَ بِالْجُمُعَةِ[1] الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَسَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص بِشَارَةً لَهُمْ وَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ‌[2] تَوْبِيخاً لِلْمُنَافِقِينَ وَ لَا يَنْبَغِي تَرْكُهَا فَمَنْ تَرَكَهَا مُتَعَمِّداً فَلَا صَلَاةَ لَهُ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah has granted honor to the believers by means of sending (Surah (chapter) of al-Jumu‘ah). The Messenger of Allah established it a Sunnah (noble tradition) and good news for them. He sent al-Munafiqun to reprimand the hypocrites. It is not proper to omit it. Salah (prayer) of one who w

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ إِذَا صَلَّيْتُ وَحْدِي أَرْبَعاً أَجْهَرُ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ وَ قَالَ اقْرَأْ بِسُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ[3].

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about recitation on Friday when I perform Salah (prayer) alone of four Rak‘at. Can I recite aloud? He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, you can recite aloud.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and al-Munafiqun on Friday.’”

يَرْجِعُ إِلَى سُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ.[1] - وَ رُوِيَ أَيْضاً يُتِمُّهَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يَسْتَأْنِفُ.

“I once asked one of the two Imam, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about a man who intends to recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah on Friday but he recites Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad (Chapter 112). He (the Imam) said, ‘He can go back to Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah.’ It is also narrated that one completes it in two Rak‘at, then performs it ag

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ مَنْ صَلَّى الْجُمُعَةَ بِغَيْرِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ أَعَادَ الصَّلَاةَ[2] فِي سَفَرٍ أَوْ حَضَرٍ. - وَ رُوِيَ‌ لَا بَأْسَ فِي السَّفَرِ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ بِقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one performs Friday Salah (prayer) without reciting Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and al-Munafiqun, he is required to perform his Salah (prayer) again, on a journey or at home.’ It is narrated that it is not an offense to recite Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad, Chapter 112 on a journey.”

الْقُنُوتُ قُنُوتُ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى بَعْدَ الْقِرَاءَةِ تَقُولُ فِي الْقُنُوتِ- لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَ رَبُّ الْأَرَضِينَ السَّبْعِ وَ مَا فِيهِنَّ وَ مَا بَيْنَهُنَّ وَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ‌ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمِينَ* اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَ

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from certain persons of our people from Sama‘ah from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Qunut (supplication after recitation) on Friday is in the first Rak‘at after recitation in which you can read,

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ فِي قُنُوتِ الْجُمُعَةِ إِذَا كَانَ إِمَاماً قَنَتَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى وَ إِنْ كَانَ يُصَلِّي أَرْبَعاً فَفِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ.

“I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘Qunut (supplication after recitation) for Friday Salah (prayer), when himself being the Imam, is in the first Rak‘at. If it is performed four Rak‘at then Qunut (supplication after recitation) is in the second Rak‘at before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees).”

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع الْقُنُوتُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ أَنْتَ رَسُولِي إِلَيْهِمْ فِي هَذَا إِذَا صَلَّيْتُمْ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ فَفِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى وَ إِذَا صَلَّيْتُمْ وُحْدَاناً فَفِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Qunut (supplication after recitation) on Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘You are my messenger to them in this matter. When performing in congregation, it is in the first Rak‘at, but when performing alone, it is in the second Rak‘at before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees).”’

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَمَّنْ لَمْ يُدْرِكِ الْخُطْبَةَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ قَالَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَإِنْ فَاتَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ فَلَمْ يُدْرِكْهَا فَلْيُصَلِّ أَرْبَعاً وَ قَالَ إِذَا أَدْرَكْتَ الْإِمَامَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ الرَّكْعَةَ الْأَخِيرَةَ فَقَدْ أَدْرَكْتَ الصَّلَاةَ وَ إِنْ كُنْتَ أَدْرَكْتَهُ بَعْدَ مَا رَكَعَ فَهِيَ الظُّهْرُ أَرْبَعٌ.

“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who misses to attend the sermon of Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can perform the two Rak‘at, but if he misses Salah (prayer), he performs four Rak‘at.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If you join the Imam before the Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees) for the last Rak‘at, you have

قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع‌ الصَّلَاةُ النَّافِلَةُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ سِتُّ رَكَعَاتٍ بُكْرَةً وَ سِتُّ رَكَعَاتٍ صَدْرَ النَّهَارِ وَ رَكْعَتَانِ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ صَلِّ الْفَرِيضَةَ وَ صَلِّ بَعْدَهَا سِتَّ رَكَعَاتٍ.[1]

‘Optional Salah (prayer) on Friday is six Rak‘at very early, six Rak‘at in midday, two Rak‘at at Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime), then perform obligatory Salah (prayer), then perform six Rak‘at thereafter.”’

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ أَمَّا أَنَا فَإِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ كَانَتِ الشَّمْسُ مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ بِمِقْدَارِهَا مِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ فِي وَقْتِ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ صَلَّيْتُ سِتَّ رَكَعَاتٍ فَإِذَا انْتَفَخَ النَّهَارُ[2] صَلَّيْتُ سِتّاً فَإِذَا زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ أَوْ زَالَتْ صَلَّيْتُ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ بَعْدَهَا سِتّاً.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘On Friday morning, when the distance from the sun to the east becomes like the distance from the sun to the west at the time of al-‘Asr, I perform six Rak‘at. When it (morning) is wider, I perform six Rak‘at, when it is Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime), I perfo

قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع‌ إِذَا كُنْتَ شَاكّاً فِي الزَّوَالِ فَصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَنْتَ فَابْدَأْ بِالْفَرِيضَةِ.

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘If you have doubts about Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime), perform two Rak‘at. When you become certain of Zawal, then begin performing obligatory Salah (prayer).”’
