Another Chapter on the above Subject in an Emergency

قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع‌ فِي الذَّبِيحَةِ بِغَيْرِ حَدِيدَةٍ قَالَ إِذَا اضْطُرِرْتَ إِلَيْهَا فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدْ حَدِيدَةً فَاذْبَحْهَا بِحَجَرٍ.

“About the case of slaughtering without iron, abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘In an emergency when you cannot find iron you can slaughter with stone.”’

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ ع عَنِ الْمَرْوَةِ وَ الْقَصَبَةِ وَ الْعُودِ أَ يُذْبَحُ بِهِنَّ إِذَا لَمْ يَجِدُوا سِكِّيناً قَالَ إِذَا فَرَى‌[1] الْأَوْدَاجَ فَلَا بَأْسَ بِذَلِكَ. - أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَبِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ ع‌ مِثْلَهُ.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Um ay r from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Hajj aj who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ibrahim, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, if slaughtering with stone, sharp reeds, and wood when a knife cannot be found is acceptable. He (the Imam) said, ‘If they can cut the jugular

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ رَجُلٍ لَمْ يَكُنْ بِحَضْرَتِهِ سِكِّينٌ أَ يَذْبَحُ بِقَصَبَةٍ فَقَالَ اذْبَحْ بِالْقَصَبَةِ وَ بِالْحَجَرِ وَ بِالْعَظْمِ وَ بِالْعُودِ إِذَا لَمْ تُصِبِ الْحَدِيدَةَ إِذَا قَطَعَ الْحُلْقُومَ وَ خَرَجَ الدَّمُ فَلَا بَأْسَ.

‘You can use reeds, stones, bones or wood for slaughtering when you cannot find iron, if such things cut the throat and blood comes out; then it is not unlawful.’”
