Prophethood

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَا كَادَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع‌[3] يَأْتِينِي إِلَّا قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ اتَّقِ شَحْنَاءَ الرِّجَالِ وَ عَدَاوَتَهُمْ‌[4].

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Almost every time Jibril (Gabriel) on coming to me would say, “O Muhammad, guard (your) anger against men and animosity for them.’”

قَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع- لِلنَّبِيِّ ص إِيَّاكَ وَ مُلَاحَاةَ الرِّجَالِ‌[5].

“Jibril (Gabriel) said to the Holy Prophet, ‘Beware of engaging in disputes against men.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَا كَادَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع‌ يَأْتِينِي إِلَّا قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ اتَّقِ شَحْنَاءَ الرِّجَالِ وَ عَدَاوَتَهُمْ‌[1].

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Almost every time Jibril (Gabriel), on coming to me, would say, “O Muhammad, guard (your) anger against men and animosity to them. ’” (This Hadith is a repeat of H 5 perhaps by the scribe)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَا أَتَانِي جَبْرَئِيلُ ع قَطُّ إِلَّا وَعَظَنِي فَآخِرُ قَوْلِهِ لِي إِيَّاكَ وَ مُشَارَّةَ النَّاسِ فَإِنَّهَا تَكْشِفُ الْعَوْرَةَ وَ تَذْهَبُ بِالْعِزِّ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Jibril (Gabriel) never came to me without advice and guidance. The last advice that he brought was: “Beware of engaging in disputations against men; it reveals the defects and eliminates one’s high regard.’”

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع فِي شَيْ‌ءٍ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ فِي مُعَادَاةِ الرِّجَالِ‌[3].

“Jibril (Gabriel) never cautioned me so emphatically about anything as he did about opposition to men.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ الْغَضَبُ يُفْسِدُ الْإِيمَانَ كَمَا يُفْسِدُ الْخَلُّ الْعَسَلَ‌[4].

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Anger spoils belief just as vinegar spoils honey.”

سَمِعْتُ أَبِي ع يَقُولُ‌ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص رَجُلٌ بَدَوِيٌّ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَسْكُنُ الْبَادِيَةَ فَعَلِّمْنِي جَوَامِعَ الْكَلَامِ فَقَالَ آمُرُكَ أَنْ لَا تَغْضَبَ فَأَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ الْمَسْأَلَةَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ حَتَّى رَجَعَ الرَّجُلُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ فَقَالَ لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْ شَيْ‌ءٍ بَعْدَ هَذَا مَا أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِلَّا بِالْخَيْرِ قَالَ وَ كَانَ أَبِي يَقُولُ أَيُّ شَيْ‌ءٍ أَ

“I heard my father saying, ‘Once a Bedouin man came to the Messenger of Allah and said, “1 live in the Sahara, please teach me comprehensive words of advice.” The Messenger of Allah said, ‘I command you not to become angry.’ The man from the desert repeated his question three times. He then realized the fact and said,

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَلِّمْنِي عِظَةً أَتَّعِظُ بِهَا فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِّمْنِي عِظَةً أَتَّعِظُ بِهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ انْطَلِقْ وَ لَا تَغْضَبْ ثُمَّ أَعَادَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ انْطَلِقْ وَ لَا تَغْضَبْ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ.

“Once I said to Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) ‘Please teach me good advice that will help me learn a lesson.’ The Imam said, ‘Once a man came to the Messenger of Allah and said, “O Messenger of Allah, teach me an advice that will help me learn a good lesson.” The Messenger of Allah said, ‘Go, but do not become angry.’ The man r

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ أَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَى بَعْضِ أَنْبِيَائِهِ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ اذْكُرْنِي فِي غَضَبِكَ أَذْكُرْكَ فِي غَضَبِي لَا أَمْحَقْكَ فِيمَنْ أَمْحَقُ‌[2]- وَ ارْضَ بِي مُنْتَصِراً فَإِنَّ انْتِصَارِي لَكَ خَيْرٌ مِنِ انْتِصَارِكَ لِنَفْسِكَ‌[1].

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, revealed to certain persons of His prophets: “O sons of Adam, remember Me in your anger, I will remember you in My anger and will not eliminate you along with the things that I eliminate. Be happy with My support; My support is better for you th

قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ ص يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِّمْنِي قَالَ اذْهَبْ وَ لَا تَغْضَبْ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ قَدْ اكْتَفَيْتُ بِذَاكَ فَمَضَى إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَإِذَا بَيْنَ قَوْمِهِ حَرْبٌ قَدْ قَامُوا صُفُوفاً وَ لَبِسُوا السِّلَاحَ فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ لَبِسَ سِلَاحَهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ مَعَهُمْ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ قَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص لَا تَغْضَبْ فَرَمَى السِّلَاحَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ يَمْشِي إِلَى الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَدُوُّ ق

“Once a man said to the Holy Prophet, ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me.’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘You may go and do not become angry.’ The man said, ‘I have taken it as a sufficient lesson.’ He went to his family and found his people fighting, all of them lined up in arms. When he saw it he also armed himself and s

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ كَفَّ نَفْسَهُ عَنْ أَعْرَاضِ النَّاسِ أَقَالَ اللَّهُ نَفْسَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ[4] وَ مَنْ كَفَّ غَضَبَهُ عَنِ النَّاسِ كَفَّ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ عَذَابَ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever controls his soul from hurting people, on the Day of Judgment Allah will agree to grant relief to his soul. Whoever controls his anger against people, consequently, Allah, the Most Blessed, the Most High, will, on the Day of Judgment, hold back the fire from him.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ كَادَ الْفَقْرُ أَنْ يَكُونَ كُفْراً وَ كَادَ الْحَسَدُ أَنْ يَغْلِبَ الْقَدَرَ[1].

‘The Messenger of Allah (sw) said, ‘Poverty can almost be disbelief, and envy may almost overcome (disable) qadr/destiny.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لِمُوسَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ ع يَا ابْنَ عِمْرَانَ لَا تَحْسُدَنَّ النَّاسَ عَلَى مَا آتَيْتُهُمْ مِنْ فَضْلِي وَ لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَى ذَلِكَ وَ لَا تُتْبِعْهُ نَفْسَكَ فَإِنَّ الْحَاسِدَ سَاخِطٌ لِنِعَمِي صَادٌّ لِقَسْمِيَ الَّذِي قَسَمْتُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِي وَ مَنْ يَكُ كَذَلِكَ فَلَسْتُ مِنْهُ وَ لَيْسَ مِنِّي.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, said to Moses, “O son of ‘Imran, do not envy people for what I have given them of My favors, do not focus your eyes on it (what I have given to people), and do not allow your soul to follow it; an envious person is angry with My bounties, and b

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ تَعَصَّبَ أَوْ تُعُصِّبَ لَهُ فَقَدْ خَلَعَ رِبْقَ الْإِيمَانِ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ.

“Whoever discriminates or supports discrimination, he has taken off the collar of belief from his neck.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ حَبَّةٌ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ مِنْ عَصَبِيَّةٍ بَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مَعَ أَعْرَابِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ.

“The Messenger of Allah (sw) has said, ‘Whoever has prejudice/racism in his heart of the size of a mustard seed, on the Day of Judgment Allah will raise him with the bedouins of the time of Jahiliyah (pre-Islamic ignorance).’”

لَمْ يُدْخِلِ الْجَنَّةَ حَمِيَّةٌ[1] غَيْرُ حَمِيَّةِ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَ ذَلِكَ حِينَ أَسْلَمَ غَضَباً لِلنَّبِيِّ ص فِي حَدِيثِ السَّلَى‌[2] الَّذِي أُلْقِيَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ص.

“No zeal has entered Paradise except the zeal of Hamza ibn Abdul-Muttalib, and that was when he accepted Islam out of anger for the Prophet (sw) during the incident of the entrails that were thrown upon the Prophet (sw).”

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ‌ الْكِبْرُ قَدْ يَكُونُ فِي شِرَارِ النَّاسِ مِنْ كُلِّ جِنْسٍ وَ الْكِبْرُ رِدَاءُ اللَّهِ فَمَنْ نَازَعَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ رِدَاءَهُ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ اللَّهُ إِلَّا سَفَالًا[1] إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص مَرَّ فِي بَعْضِ طُرُقِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَ سَوْدَاءُ تَلْقُطُ السِّرْقِينَ‌[2] فَقِيلَ لَهَا تَنَحَّيْ عَنْ طَرِيقِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ الطَّرِيقَ لَمُعْرَضٌ‌[3] فَهَمَّ بِهَا بَعْضُ الْق

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Arrogance can be found in mischievous people of all sexes. Pride is the gown of Allah. Therefore, whoever disputes Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, about His gown; it will only bring him low. Once, the Messenger of Allah was passing through one of the streets of Madina. On the w

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّ أَعْظَمَ الْكِبْرِ غَمْصُ الْخَلْقِ وَ سَفَهُ الْحَقِّ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَ مَا غَمْصُ الْخَلْقِ وَ سَفَهُ الْحَقِّ قَالَ يَجْهَلُ الْحَقَّ وَ يَطْعُنُ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ نَازَعَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ رِدَاءَهُ.

“The biggest form of arrogance is to sink (belittle or look down upon) people and consider the truth foolishness.” I (the narrator) then asked, ‘What is to ‘sink’ the people and hoodwink the truth?’ The Imam said, ‘It is ignoring the truth and criticizing the people of truth. Whoever does it has disputed Allah, the Maj

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ ثَلَاثَةٌ لا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللَّهُ‌ وَ لا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ‌ يَوْمَ الْقِيامَةِ وَ لا يُزَكِّيهِمْ‌ وَ لَهُمْ عَذابٌ أَلِيمٌ‌ شَيْخٌ زَانٍ وَ مَلِكٌ جَبَّارٌ وَ مُقِلٌّ مُخْتَالٌ‌[3].

“The messenger of Allah has said, ‘There are three kinds of people to whom, on the Day of Judgment, Allah will not speak or look to and will not purify them. They will suffer a painful punishment: an old man who fornicates, a tyrant king and an arrogant poor person.”

إِنَّ يُوسُفَ ع لَمَّا قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ الشَّيْخُ يَعْقُوبُ ع دَخَلَهُ عِزُّ الْمُلْكِ فَلَمْ يَنْزِلْ إِلَيْهِ فَهَبَطَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع فَقَالَ يَا يُوسُفُ ابْسُطْ رَاحَتَكَ‌[1] فَخَرَجَ مِنْهَا نُورٌ سَاطِعٌ فَصَارَ فِي جَوِّ السَّمَاءِ فَقَالَ يُوسُفُ يَا جَبْرَئِيلُ مَا هَذَا النُّورُ الَّذِي خَرَجَ مِنْ رَاحَتِي فَقَالَ نُزِعَتِ النُّبُوَّةُ مِنْ عَقِبِكَ عُقُوبَةً لِمَا لَمْ تَنْزِلْ إِلَى الشَّيْخِ يَعْقُوبَ فَلَ

“Joseph, Yusuf, peace be upon him, met his old father, Ya’qub and because of majestic feeling of a king he did not dismount. Jibril (Gabriel) descended to him and said, ‘O Yusuf (look on) your palm.’ A shining light came out and went into the sky. Joseph asked, ‘O Jibril (Gabriel), what was that light that came out of

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ بَيْنَمَا مُوسَى ع جَالِساً إِذْ أَقْبَلَ إِبْلِيسُ وَ عَلَيْهِ بُرْنُسٌ ذُو أَلْوَانٍ فَلَمَّا دَنَا مِنْ مُوسَى ع خَلَعَ الْبُرْنُسَ وَ قَامَ إِلَى مُوسَى فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُوسَى مَنْ أَنْتَ فَقَالَ أَنَا إِبْلِيسُ قَالَ أَنْتَ فَلَا قَرَّبَ اللَّهُ دَارَكَ‌[2] قَالَ إِنِّي إِنَّمَا جِئْتُ لِأُسَلِّمَ عَلَيْكَ لِمَكَانِكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُوسَى ع فَمَا هَذَا ا

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Once Moses was sitting when Satan came to him with a many-colored hooded cloak on him. When he approached Moses he took his cloak off, stood nearby, and offered him the greeting of peace. Moses asked, ‘Who are you?’ He replied, ‘I am Satan.’ Moses said, ‘Is it you? May Allah not bring

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ لَمْ يَتَعَزَّ بِعَزَاءِ اللَّهِ تَقَطَّعَتْ نَفْسُهُ حَسَرَاتٍ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا وَ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ بَصَرَهُ مَا فِي أَيْدِي النَّاسِ كَثُرَ هَمُّهُ وَ لَمْ يُشْفَ‌ غَيْظُهُ وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَرَ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَلَيْهِ نِعْمَةً إِلَّا فِي مَطْعَمٍ أَوْ مَشْرَبٍ أَوْ مَلْبَسٍ فَقَدْ قَصُرَ عَمَلُهُ وَ دَنَا عَذَابُهُ‌[1].

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘One who is not comforted and satisfied with relief from Allah, his soul will be torn in pieces due to his sorrow for the world. One who follows his eyes to what is in the hands of the people, his depressed condition will increase and his anguish will not cease. One who does not apprec

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّ الدِّينَارَ وَ الدِّرْهَمَ أَهْلَكَا مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ وَ هُمَا مُهْلِكَاكُمْ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘The world and dirham (money) have destroyed those who lived before you and they will destroy you also.’”

أَنَّ أَكْثَرَ مَا يَطْلُبُ ابْنُ آدَمَ مَا لَا حَاجَةَ بِهِ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ الْحَسَدُ وَ هِيَ مَعْصِيَةُ ابْنِ آدَمَ حَيْثُ حَسَدَ أَخَاهُ فَقَتَلَهُ فَتَشَعَّبَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ حُبُّ النِّسَاءِ وَ حُبُّ الدُّنْيَا وَ حُبُّ الرِّئَاسَةِ وَ حُبُّ الرَّاحَةِ وَ حُبُّ الْكَلَامِ وَ حُبُّ الْعُلُوِّ وَ الثَّرْوَةِ فَصِرْنَ سَبْعَ خِصَالٍ فَاجْتَمَعْنَ كُلُّهُنَّ فِي حُبِّ الدُّنْيَا فَقَالَ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ وَ الْعُلَمَاءُ بَع

“Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) was asked, ‘Which deed is more excellent before Allah?’ The Imam said, ‘No deed, after knowing Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, and knowing the Messenger of Allah, is more excellent than hating the world. It has many branches, and the sins have branches also. The first sin committed wa

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ لَوْ كَانَ الْخُرْقُ خَلْقاً يُرَى مَا كَانَ شَيْ‌ءٌ مِمَّا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ أَقْبَحَ مِنْهُ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Had harshness been among the visible creatures it would have looked the most loathsome of the creatures of Allah.’”

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص‌ أَبَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لِصَاحِبِ الْخُلُقِ السَّيِّئِ بِالتَّوْبَةِ قِيلَ وَ كَيْفَ ذَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ لِأَنَّهُ إِذَا تَابَ مِنْ ذَنْبٍ وَقَعَ فِي ذَنْبٍ أَعْظَمَ مِنْهُ.

“The Holy Prophet has said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, refuses to accept the repentance of a person of bad conduct.’ It was asked, ‘Why is it so, O Messenger of Allah?’ He said, ‘It is because when he repents from a sin he falls into a greater sin.’”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ أَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَى بَعْضِ أَنْبِيَائِهِ الْخُلُقُ السَّيِّئُ يُفْسِدُ الْعَمَلَ كَمَا يُفْسِدُ الْخَلُّ الْعَسَلَ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, sent revelations to one of His prophets and it said, ‘Bad and evil behavior spoils good deeds just as vinegar spoils honey.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الرَّجُلَ لَا يُبَالِي مَا قَالَ وَ لَا مَا قِيلَ لَهُ فَإِنَّهُ لِغَيَّةٍ أَوْ شِرْكِ شَيْطَانٍ‌[3].

“The messenger of Allah has said, ‘If you find a man who is not concerned at all about what he says or what is said about him, he certainly is an straying person or an associate of Satan.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ الْجَنَّةَ عَلَى كُلِّ فَحَّاشٍ بَذِي‌ءٍ قَلِيلِ الْحَيَاءِ- لَا يُبَالِي مَا قَالَ وَ لَا مَا قِيلَ لَهُ‌[4] فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ فَتَّشْتَهُ لَمْ تَجِدْهُ إِلَّا لِغَيَّةٍ أَوْ شِرْكِ شَيْطَانٍ‌[5] فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ- وَ فِي النَّاسِ شِرْكُ شَيْطَانٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَ مَا تَقْرَأُ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- وَ شارِكْهُمْ فِي الْأَمْوالِ وَ الْأَوْلادِ

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Allah has made paradise unlawful for every abusive, immoral, and (persons) lacking bashfulness who is not concerned about what he says or what is said to him. If (investigated) you find him to be an straying person or a partner of Satan.’ It was asked, O Messenger of Allah, ‘Does Sata

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّ الْفُحْشَ لَوْ كَانَ مِثَالًا لَكَانَ مِثَالَ سَوْءٍ[3].

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘If obscene language had a form and shape it would have been a very ugly one.”’

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّ مِنْ شَرِّ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ‌[2] مَنْ تُكْرَهُ مُجَالَسَتُهُ لِفُحْشِهِ.

“The messenger of Allah has said, ‘Of the most wicked and evil servants (of Allah) are those with whom association is disliked due to their use of foul language.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُبْغِضُ الْفَاحِشَ الْبَذِي‌ءَ وَ السَّائِلَ الْمُلْحِفَ‌[4].

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Allah hates those who use foul language and the insistant beggar.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لِعَائِشَةَ يَا عَائِشَةُ إِنَّ الْفُحْشَ لَوْ كَانَ مُمَثَّلًا لَكَانَ مِثَالَ سَوْءٍ.

“The Messenger of Allah once said to ‘A’ishah, ‘O ‘A’ishah, had foul language had a form and shape it would have been a very ugly form and shape.”

إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ص بَيْنَا هُوَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ إِذَا اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص بِئْسَ أَخُو الْعَشِيرَةِ- فَقَامَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَدَخَلَتِ الْبَيْتَ وَ أَذِنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لِلرَّجُلِ فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ بِوَجْهِهِ وَ بِشْرُهُ إِلَيْهِ‌[4] يُحَدِّثُهُ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرَغَ وَ خَرَجَ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَيْنَا أَنْتَ تَذْكُرُ هَذ

“One day, when the Holy Prophet was with ‘A’ishah, a man asked permission to meet him. The Messenger of Allah said, ‘What an evil fellow from the tribe!’ ‘A’ishah then went to her chamber and the Holy Prophet granted permission to the man for a meeting. When he came in, the Holy Prophet met him cheerfully, politely spe

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ شَرُّ النَّاسِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الَّذِينَ يُكْرَمُونَ اتِّقَاءَ شَرِّهِمْ.

‘The most evil among people in the sight of Allah on the Day of Judgment will be the one whom people respect for fear from his evil manners.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ شَرُّ النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الَّذِينَ يُكْرَمُونَ اتِّقَاءَ شَرِّهِمْ.

‘The most evil among people on the Day of Judgment will be one whom people respect for fear of his evil manners’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّ أَعْجَلَ الشَّرِّ عُقُوبَةً الْبَغْيُ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘The evil most quickly facing punishment is tyrannical transgression.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ آفَةُ الْحَسَبِ الِافْتِخَارُ وَ الْعُجْبُ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘The misfortune for lineage is boastfulness and feeling self-important.’”

أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنَا فُلَانُ بْنُ فُلَانٍ حَتَّى عَدَّ تِسْعَةً فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَمَا إِنَّكَ عَاشِرُهُمْ فِي النَّارِ[3].

“Once a man came to the Messenger of Allah and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I am so and so son of so and so counting (boastfully) up to nine generations.’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘You are the tenth of them in the fire.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ آفَةُ الْحَسَبِ الِافْتِخَارُ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘The misfortune for lineage is boastfulness.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ أَصْبَحَ لَا يَهُمُّ بِظُلْمِ أَحَدٍ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ مَا اجْتَرَمَ.

“The messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever rises in the morning without any intention of doing injustice to anyone, Allah forgives his sins.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ اتَّقُوا الظُّلْمَ فَإِنَّهُ ظُلُمَاتُ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Beware of doing injustice; on the Day of Judgment there will be much darkness.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ اتَّقُوا الظُّلْمَ فَإِنَّهُ ظُلُمَاتُ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Be afraid of doing injustice; on the Day of Judgment there will be much darkness.’”

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَوْحَى إِلَى نَبِيٍّ مِنْ أَنْبِيَائِهِ فِي مَمْلَكَةِ جَبَّارٍ مِنَ الْجَبَّارِينَ أَنِ ائْتِ هَذَا الْجَبَّارَ فَقُلْ لَهُ إِنَّنِي لَمْ أَسْتَعْمِلْكَ عَلَى سَفْكِ الدِّمَاءِ وَ اتِّخَاذِ الْأَمْوَالِ وَ إِنَّمَا اسْتَعْمَلْتُكَ لِتَكُفَّ عَنِّي أَصْوَاتَ الْمَظْلُومِينَ فَإِنِّي لَمْ أَدَعْ ظُلَامَتَهُمْ وَ إِنْ كَانُوا كُفَّاراً[1].

14. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from ibn Mahbub from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, sent revelations to one of His prophets who lived in the time of an oppressive and tyranical ruler. It said, ‘Tell this tyrant,

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ ظَلَمَ أَحَداً فَفَاتَهُ فَلْيَسْتَغْفِرِ اللَّهَ لَهُ فَإِنَّهُ كَفَّارَةٌ لَهُ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘If one does injustice to a person and he passes away, he (the doer of injustice) must ask forgiveness from Allah for him (oppressed) and it will be the expiation for his injustice.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ أَصْبَحَ وَ هُوَ لَا يَهُمُّ بِظُلْمِ أَحَدٍ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ مَا اجْتَرَمَ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever rises in the morning and has no intention to do injustice to anyone Allah forgives his sins.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ خَافَ الْقِصَاصَ كَفَّ عَنْ ظُلْمِ النَّاسِ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘One who is afraid of retaliation does not do injustice to people.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ عِزَّتِي وَ جَلَالِي وَ عَظَمَتِي وَ كِبْرِيَائِي وَ نُورِي وَ عُلُوِّي وَ ارْتِفَاعِ مَكَانِي لَا يُؤْثِرُ عَبْدٌ هَوَاهُ عَلَى هَوَايَ إِلَّا شَتَّتُّ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَهُ‌[2] وَ لَبَّسْتُ عَلَيْهِ دُنْيَاهُ وَ شَغَلْتُ قَلْبَهُ بِهَا وَ لَمْ أُؤْتِهِ مِنْهَا إِلَّا مَا قَدَّرْتُ لَهُ وَ عِزَّتِي وَ جَلَالِي وَ عَظَمَتِي وَ نُورِي وَ عُلُوِّي وَ ارْتِفَاعِ مَك

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qasim from abu Hamza from abu la’ far (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has said, ‘By My Majesty, Glory, Greatness, Supremacy, My

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ يَجِي‌ءُ كُلُّ غَادِرٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِإِمَامٍ مَائِلٍ شِدْقُهُ‌[1] حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ النَّارَ وَ يَجِي‌ءُ كُلُّ نَاكِثٍ بَيْعَةَ إِمَامٍ أَجْذَمَ حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ النَّارَ.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘On the Day of Judgment all the treacherous people will come with a leader, his mouth badly deformed, and end up in the fire. All those breaking out allegiance of the Imam also will come with their hand cut off and end up in the fire.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ مَاكَرَ مُسْلِماً.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘One who makes evil plans against a Muslim is not from us.’”
