قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَرْوُونَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ص قَالَ إِنَّ الْعَدَسَ بَارَكَ عَلَيْهِ سَبْعُونَ نَبِيّاً فَقَالَ هُوَ الَّذِي يُسَمُّونَهُ عِنْدَكُمُ الْحِمَّصَ وَ نَحْنُ نُسَمِّيهِ الْعَدَسَ.

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘People narrate that the Holy Prophet has said, “Seventy Prophets have blessed chickpeas.’” He (the Imam) said, ‘This is what you call chickpeas but we call it lintels.’”

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from his father from fadalah from Rifa‘ah who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘When Allah, most Blessed, most High, granted good health to Ayyub (a.s.), he looked to the Israelites who had their plantations.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that once a man complained before the Holy Prophet, about hardheartedness. He (the Messenger of Allah) told him to eat lintels; it softens the heart and makes tears to flow quicker.’”

دَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ فَاسْتَدْعَى بِتَمْرٍ فَأَكَلْنَا ثُمَّ ازْدَدْنَا مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِنِّي أُحِبُّ الرَّجُلَ أَوْ قَالَ يُعْجِبُنِي الرَّجُلُ إِذَا كَانَ تَمْرِيّاً.

“Once we visited abu Ja‘far (a.s.), and he (the Imam) asked for dates which we then ate with him (the Imam), but quite a lot of it. The Imam then said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘I like a man who is a man of dates (likes dates).”’

“Once I visited abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), and there were barniy dates in front of him. He (the Imam) seemed assiduous in eating it with zest. “Once we were with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and Mudayrah (a certain sauce) was brought then food, then a basket of dates of several colors was brought. He (the Imam) then picked up one by one and asked, ‘What do you call it?’ and we said that we call it so and so, until he (the Imam) picked up one more and asked, ‘What d

لَمَّا حَسَرَ الْمَاءُ[1] عَنْ عِظَامِ الْمَوْتَى فَرَأَى ذَلِكَ نُوحٌ ع جَزِعَ جَزَعاً شَدِيداً وَ اغْتَمَّ لِذَلِكَ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ هَذَا عَمَلُكَ بِنَفْسِكَ أَنْتَ دَعَوْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ يَا رَبِّ إِنِّي أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ كُلِ الْعِنَبَ الْأَسْوَدَ لِيَذْهَبَ غَمُّكَ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One of the Prophets complained before Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, about sadness and Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, commanded him to eat grapes.’”

“I once heard Aba Ja‘far, and Aba ‘Abdillah AS, saying, ‘No other fruit on earth was as much desirable to the Messenger of Allah SAW, as pomegranate and by Allah, he [the Messenger of Allah] preferred to not share it with anyone.’”

كَانَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ص فَأُهْدِيَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ص سَفَرْجَلٌ فَقَطَعَ مِنْهُ النَّبِيُّ ص قِطْعَةً وَ نَاوَلَهَا جَعْفَراً فَأَبَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَهَا فَقَالَ خُذْهَا وَ كُلْهَا فَإِنَّهَا تُذَكِّي الْقَلْبَ وَ تُشَجِّعُ الْجَبَانَ وَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ أُخْرَى كُلْ فَإِنَّهُ يُصَفِّي اللَّوْنَ وَ يُحَسِّنُ الْوَلَدَ[2].

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Ja‘far ibn abu Talib was with the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and he presented quince to the Holy Prophet. “Abu Ibrahim (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, said to Ja‘far, ‘O Ja‘far, eat quince; it strengthens the heart and emboldens the coward heart.’”

‘The endive is the herb of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. The herb of ’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), is al-Badharuj (sweet basil) and the herb of Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, is al -Farfakh (purslane).

There are eight qualities in it; It is pleasant, opens up blockages, makes burping pleasant, freshens one’s breath, increases appetite for food, pulls out illness and it is protection against leprosy and when it settles down in one’s

ذُكِرَتِ الْبُقُولُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص فَقَالَ كُلُوا الْكُرَّاثَ فَإِنَّ مَثَلَهُ فِي الْبُقُولِ كَمَثَلِ الْخُبْزِ فِي سَائِرِ الطَّعَامِ أَوْ قَالَ الْإِدَامِ. الشَّكُّ مِنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ‌[2].

“I completed the acts of al-Hajj or ‘Umrah, I passed by al-Madinah and asked about abu Ja’far (a.s.). He said that he (the Imam) is in Yanbu’. I then went there and he (the Imam) asked, ‘O Hassan, have you come walking here?’ I replied, ‘Yes, I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I disliked leaving

نَاوَلَ النَّبِيُّ ص- جَعْفَرَ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ع خِلَالًا فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا جَعْفَرُ تَخَلَّلْ فَإِنَّهُ مَصْلَحَةٌ لِلْفَمِ أَوْ قَالَ لِلِّثَةِ وَ مَجْلَبَةٌ لِلرِّزْقِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) once gave a toothpick to Ja‘far ibn abu Talib (a.s.), and said, ‘O Ja‘far use a toothpick. It is beneficial for the mouth’ or he said, ‘It is beneficial for the gums and attracts sustenance.’”

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص‌ تَخَلَّلُوا فَإِنَّهُ مَصْلَحَةٌ لِلِّثَةِ وَ النَّوَاجِدِ[1]. - عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص‌ تَخَلَّلُوا فَإِنَّهُ يُنَقِّي الْفَمَ وَ مَصْلَحَةٌ لِلِّثَةِ.
