أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص كَانَ يُعْجِبُهُ النَّظَرُ إِلَى الْأُتْرُجِّ الْأَخْضَرِ وَ التُّفَّاحِ الْأَحْمَرِ.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ali ibn Muhammad al-Qasaniy from abu Ayyub al-Madiniy from Sulayman ibn Ja‘far al-Ja‘fariy who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Y
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ص يُعْجِبُهُ الرُّطَبُ بِالْخِرْبِزِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liked fresh dates with melons.’”
أَكَلَ النَّبِيُّ ص الْبِطِّيخَ بِالسُّكَّرِ وَ أَكَلَ الْبِطِّيخَ بِالرُّطَبِ.
“Abu al-Hassan, al-Awwal (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, ate melons with sugar. He (the Messenger of Allah) ate melons with fresh dates.’”
بَقْلَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص الْهِنْدَبَاءُ وَ بَقْلَةُ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع الْبَاذَرُوجُ وَ بَقْلَةُ فَاطِمَةَ ع الْفَرْفَخُ.
‘The endive is the herb of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. The herb of ’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), is al-Badharuj (sweet basil) and the herb of Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, is al -Farfakh (purslane).
قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع كَانَ يُعْجِبُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص مِنَ الْبُقُولِ الْحَوْكُ[2].
“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liked sweet basil. 5 ”
وَطِئَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الرَّمْضَاءَ فَأَحْرَقَتْهُ فَوَطِئَ عَلَى الرِّجْلَةِ وَ هِيَ الْبَقْلَةُ الْحَمْقَاءُ فَسَكَنَ عَنْهُ حَرُّ الرَّمْضَاءِ فَدَعَا لَهَا وَ كَانَ يُحِبُّهَا ص وَ يَقُولُ مِنْ بَقْلَةٍ مَا أَبْرَكَهَا[1].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, set foot on a sun- baked ground which burned him. He (the Messenger of Allah) then set foot on purslane and it calmed down the heat and he (the Mess
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ص يُعْجِبُهُ الدُّبَّاءُ فِي الْقُدُورِ وَ هُوَ الْقَرْعُ[3].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liked calabash, gourd in the cooking pot. It is squash.”’
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ص يُعْجِبُهُ الدُّبَّاءُ وَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ نِسَاءَهُ إِذَا طَبَخْنَ قِدْراً يُكْثِرْنَ مِنَ الدُّبَّاءِ وَ هُوَ الْقَرْعُ.
“The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liked gourd and would order his wives to increase gourd when they cooked a dish. It is squash.”
كَانَ فِيمَا أَوْصَى بِهِ- رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص عَلِيّاً ع أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَهُ يَا عَلِيُّ عَلَيْكَ بِالدُّبَّاءِ فَكُلْهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَزِيدُ فِي الدِّمَاغِ وَ الْعَقْلِ.
‘Of the things about which the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, recommended Ali (a.s.), was his saying, ‘O Ali, you must eat gourd, squash; it increases, al-Damagh, the abilities of the brain and the power of reason.’”
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص يَأْكُلُ الْقِثَّاءَ بِالْمِلْحِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would eat cucumber with salt.’”
سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ أَكْلِ الثُّومِ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص عَنْهُ لِرِيحِهِ فَقَالَ مَنْ أَكَلَ هَذِهِ الْبَقْلَةَ الْخَبِيثَةَ فَلَا يَقْرَبْ مَسْجِدَنَا فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَكَلَهُ وَ لَمْ يَأْتِ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَا بَأْسَ.
“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about garlic. He (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited it only because of its smell, saying, “Whoever eats this filthy vegetable must not come near our Masjid, however, for thos
لَمَّا أَنْ قَضَيْتُ نُسُكِي مَرَرْتُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَسَأَلْتُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع فَقَالَ هُوَ بِيَنْبُعَ فَأَتَيْتُ يَنْبُعَ فَقَالَ لِي يَا حَسَنُ مَشَيْتَ إِلَى هَاهُنَا قُلْتُ نَعَمْ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ كَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَخْرُجَ وَ لَا أَرَاكَ فَقَالَ ع إِنِّي أَكَلْتُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْبَقْلَةِ يَعْنِي الثُّومَ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتَنَحَّى عَنْ مَسْجِدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص.
“I completed the acts of al-Hajj or ‘Umrah, I passed by al-Madinah and asked about abu Ja’far (a.s.). He said that he (the Imam) is in Yanbu’. I then went there and he (the Imam) asked, ‘O Hassan, have you come walking here?’ I replied, ‘Yes, I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I disliked leaving
رَأَيْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلَ ع فِي الْحِجْرِ وَ هُوَ قَاعِدٌ وَ مَعَهُ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ ضَرَبَتْ عَلَيَّ أَسْنَانِي فَأَخَذْتُ السُّعْدَ فَدَلَكْتُ بِهِ أَسْنَانِي فَنَفَعَنِي ذَلِكَ وَ سَكَنَتْ عَنِّي.

It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from ibn Mahbub from abu Wallad who has said the following: “I once saw abu al-Hassan sitting in al-Hijr (near al-Ka‘bah) along with a group of his family members and I heard him saying, ‘I had a toothache so I took cyperus and rubbed with it my teeth, it benef
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص سَيِّدُ شَرَابِ الْجَنَّةِ الْمَاءُ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘The master of the drink in paradise is water.’”
لَهُ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ جَدَّكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص صَنَعَ هَكَذَا.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin once drank water standing. He then drank the water left from his wudu standing; then he turned to Al-Husayn (a.s.), and said, ‘Son, I saw your grandfather, the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Y
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِذَا شَرِبَ الْمَاءَ قَالَ- الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي سَقَانَا عَذْباً زُلَالًا وَ لَمْ يَسْقِنَا مِلْحاً أُجَاجاً وَ لَمْ يُؤَاخِذْنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا.
‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, when drinking water would say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, who has given us cool and clear water and not of salty and foul smelling kind, and has not yet questioned us because of our sins.’”
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص يَشْرَبُ فِي الْأَقْدَاحِ الشَّامِيَّةِ يُجَاءُ بِهَا مِنَ الشَّامِ وَ تُهْدَى إِلَيْهِ ص.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would drink water in bowls from Syria that were brought from there and given as gifts to him (the Messenger of Allah). 5 ”
مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ ص بِقَوْمٍ يَشْرَبُونَ الْمَاءَ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَقَالَ لَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ص اشْرَبُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ فَإِنَّهَا خَيْرُ أَوَانِيكُمْ.

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى- وَ نَزَّلْنا مِنَ السَّماءِ ماءً مُبارَكاً[1] قَالَ لَيْسَ مِنْ مَاءٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا وَ قَدْ خَالَطَهُ مَاءُ السَّمَاءِ.
“I once heard abu Ja‘far (a.s.), saying that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, about the meaning of the words of Allah, most High, ‘. . .We sent blessed water from the sky.’ (50:9) has said, there is no water on earth with which water
نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص عَنِ الِاسْتِشْفَاءِ بِالْحُمَّيَاتِ وَ هِيَ الْعُيُونُ الْحَارَّةُ الَّتِي تَكُونُ فِي الْجِبَالِ الَّتِي تُوجَدُ فِيهَا رَائِحَةُ الْكِبْرِيتِ وَ قِيلَ إِنَّهَا مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ[1].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited seeking cures from the hot fountains which are in mountains in which the smell of sulfur is found.’ It is said that it is of the smell of hell.”
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِذَا اسْتَسْقَى الْمَاءَ فَلَمَّا شَرِبَهُ رَأَيْتُهُ قَدِ اسْتَعْبَرَ وَ اغْرَوْرَقَتْ عَيْنَاهُ بِدُمُوعِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي يَا دَاوُدُ- لَعَنَ اللَّهُ قَاتِلَ الْحُسَيْنِ ع وَ مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ شَرِبَ الْمَاءَ فَذَكَرَ الْحُسَيْنَ ع وَ أَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ وَ لَعَنَ قَاتِلَهُ إِلَّا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَهُ مِائَةَ أَلْفِ حَسَنَةٍ وَ حَطَّ عَنْهُ مِائَةَ أَلْفِ سَيِّئَةٍ وَ
“I once was with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), when he asked for water and when he drank water, I saw him (the Imam) weeping and tears come out of his eyes. He (the Imam) said to me, ‘May Allah condemn those who murdered al-Husayn (a.s.). Whoever of the servants (of Allah) when drinking water, remembers al-Husayn (a.s.), and
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الْخَمْرُ مِنْ خَمْسَةٍ الْعَصِيرُ مِنَ الْكَرْمِ وَ النَّقِيعُ مِنَ الزَّبِيبِ وَ الْبِتْعُ مِنَ الْعَسَلِ وَ الْمِزْرُ مِنَ الشَّعِيرِ[2] وَ النَّبِيذُ مِنَ التَّمْرِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Intoxicating liquors are made from five kinds of substances: grape juice, extracts of raisins, al-Bit’ (mead) from honey, al-Mizru (beer) from barley an
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الْخَمْرُ مِنْ خَمْسَةٍ الْعَصِيرُ مِنَ الْكَرْمِ وَ النَّقِيعُ مِنَ الزَّبِيبِ وَ الْبِتْعُ مِنَ الْعَسَلِ وَ الْمِزْرُ مِنَ الشَّعِيرِ وَ النَّبِيذُ مِنَ التَّمْرِ.

لَمَّا هَبَطَ نُوحٌ ع مِنَ السَّفِينَةِ غَرَسَ غَرْساً وَ كَانَ فِيمَا غَرَسَ ع الْحَبَلَةُ[1] ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَجَاءَ إِبْلِيسُ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ فَقَلَعَهَا ثُمَّ إِنَّ نُوحاً ع عَادَ إِلَى غَرْسِهِ فَوَجَدَهُ عَلَى حَالِهِ وَ وَجَدَ الْحَبَلَةَ قَدْ قُلِعَتْ وَ وَجَدَ إِبْلِيسَ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ عِنْدَهَا فَأَتَاهُ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ إِبْلِيسَ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ قَلَعَهَا فَقَالَ نُوحٌ لِإِبْ
“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘When Noah (a.s.), disembarked from the ark, he established a plantation and of the things that he planted was a vine of grapes. He went back to his family and Iblis, may he be condemned, uprooted it. Noah (a.s.), went to his plantation. He found everything in its condition except the grap
سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْخَمْرِ فَقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بَعَثَنِي رَحْمَةً لِلْعالَمِينَ وَ لِأَمْحَقَ الْمَعَازِفَ وَ الْمَزَامِيرَ وَ أُمُورَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَ الْأَوْثَانَ وَ قَالَ أَقْسَمَ رَبِّي أَنْ لَا يَشْرَبَ عَبْدٌ لِي فِي الدُّنْيَا خَمْراً إِلَّا سَقَيْتُهُ مِثْلَ مَا شَرِبَ مِنْهَا مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ- يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مُعَذَّباً أَوْ مَغْفُوراً لَهُ وَ

Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent me as mercy for the worlds. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ بَعْدَ مَا حَرَّمَهَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَلَى لِسَانِي فَلَيْسَ بِأَهْلٍ أَنْ يُزَوَّجَ إِذَا خَطَبَ وَ لَا يُشَفَّعَ إِذَا شَفَعَ وَ لَا يُصَدَّقَ إِذَا حَدَّثَ وَ لَا يُؤْتَمَنَ عَلَى أَمَانَةٍ فَمَنِ ائْتَمَنَهُ بَعْدَ عِلْمِهِ فِيهِ فَلَيْسَ لِلَّذِي ائْتَمَنَهُ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ ضَمَانٌ وَ لَا لَهُ أَجْرٌ وَ لَا خَلَفٌ.
“The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one drinks wine after Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has made it unlawful through my tongue, he does not deserve to receive acceptance to his marriage proposal. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص شَارِبُ الْخَمْرِ لَا يُعَادُ إِذَا مَرِضَ وَ لَا يُشْهَدُ لَهُ جَنَازَةٌ وَ لَا تُزَكُّوهُ إِذَا شَهِدَ وَ لَا تُزَوِّجُوهُ إِذَا خَطَبَ وَ لَا تَأْتَمِنُوهُ عَلَى أَمَانَةٍ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘The wine drinker must not be visited when he is sick. His funeral must not be attended, he must not be relied on when he testifies and must not be marri
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص شَارِبُ الْخَمْرِ إِنْ مَرِضَ فَلَا تَعُودُوهُ وَ إِنْ مَاتَ فَلَا تَحْضُرُوهُ وَ إِنْ شَهِدَ فَلَا تُزَكُّوهُ وَ إِنْ خَطَبَ فَلَا تُزَوِّجُوهُ وَ إِنْ سَأَلَكُمْ أَمَانَةً فَلَا تَأْتَمِنُوهُ.
“The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If a wine drinker becomes ill do not visit him. If he dies do not attend his funeral, if he testifies do not rely his testimony, if he proposes marriage do not marry him and if he asks to t
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ بَعْدَ أَنْ حَرَّمَهَا اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَلَى لِسَانِي فَلَيْسَ بِأَهْلٍ أَنْ يُزَوَّجَ إِذَا خَطَبَ وَ لَا يُصَدَّقَ إِذَا حَدَّثَ وَ لَا يُشَفَّعَ إِذَا شَفَعَ وَ لَا يُؤْتَمَنَ عَلَى أَمَانَةٍ فَمَنِ ائْتَمَنَهُ عَلَى أَمَانَةٍ فَأَكَلَهَا أَوْ ضَيَّعَهَا فَلَيْسَ لِلَّذِي ائْتَمَنَهُ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَنْ يَأْجُرَهُ وَ لَا يُخْلِفَ عَلَيْهِ- وَ قَالَ أَبُ
‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one drinks wine after Allah, most High, has made it unlawful through my tongue, he then does not deserve to be married if he proposes marriage. He is not considered truthful if he speaks
لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الْخَمْرَ وَ عَاصِرَهَا وَ مُعْتَصِرَهَا وَ بَائِعَهَا وَ مُشْتَرِيَهَا وَ سَاقِيَهَا وَ آكِلَ ثَمَنِهَا وَ شَارِبَهَا وَ حَامِلَهَا وَ الْمَحْمُولَةَ إِلَيْهِ.
“The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has condemned wine. He has condemned those who squeeze the juice for it, those who want it be squeezed, those who sell it, those who buy it, those who serve it, those who receive payment for it, those
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لَا أُصَلِّي عَلَى غَرِيقِ خَمْرٍ[1].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘I do not perform Salat (prayer) on the dead body of one drowned in wine (a wine drinker).”’
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لَا يَنَالُ شَفَاعَتِي مَنِ اسْتَخَفَّ بِصَلَاتِهِ وَ لَا يَرِدُ عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ لَا وَ اللَّهِ لَا يَنَالُ شَفَاعَتِي مَنْ شَرِبَ الْمُسْكِرَ وَ لَا يَرِدُ عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ لَا وَ اللَّهِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘My intercession will not apply to those who take their Salat (prayer) lightly and he will not be able to reach before me on the pond. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ شَرِبَ مِنْكُمْ مُسْكِراً لَمْ تُقْبَلْ مِنْهُ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one [of you] drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days.’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ شَرِبَ خَمْراً حَتَّى يَسْكَرَ لَمْ يَقْبَلِ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مِنْهُ صَلَاتَهُ أَرْبَعِينَ صَبَاحاً.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one drinks wine till he becomes drunk Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, will not accept his Salat (prayer) for forty days.”’
مَا عُصِيَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِشَيْءٍ أَشَدَّ مِنْ شُرْبِ الْخَمْرِ إِنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ لَيَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ الْفَرِيضَةَ وَ يَثِبُ عَلَى أُمِّهِ وَ أُخْتِهِ وَ ابْنَتِهِ وَ هُوَ لَا يَعْقِلُ.
“One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah is not disobeyed by anything more severely than by drinking wine. One of them may neglect obligatory Salat (prayer), fall on his mother, sister or daughter when drunk and be devoid of reason.’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مُدْمِنُ الْخَمْرِ يَلْقَى اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ كَعَابِدِ وَثَنٍ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘A wine addict will meet Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, as a worshipper of idols will do.’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مُدْمِنُ الْخَمْرِ يَلْقَى اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَوْمَ يَلْقَاهُ كَافِراً.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘A wine addict will meet Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, as a worshipper of idols will do.’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مُدْمِنُ الْخَمْرِ كَعَابِدِ وَثَنٍ إِذَا مَاتَ وَ هُوَ مُدْمِنٌ عَلَيْهِ يَلْقَى اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ حِينَ يَلْقَاهُ- كَعَابِدِ وَثَنٍ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ’A wine addict is like an idol worshipper. سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص فَقَالَ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ.
Every intoxicating liquor is unlawful for consumption.’””
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ حَرَّمَ الْخَمْرَ بِعَيْنِهَا[1] فَقَلِيلُهَا وَ كَثِيرُهَا حَرَامٌ كَمَا حَرَّمَ الْمَيْتَةَ وَ الدَّمَ وَ لَحْمَ الْخِنْزِيرِ وَ حَرَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الشَّرَابَ مِنْ كُلِّ مُسْكِرٍ وَ مَا حَرَّمَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص فَقَدْ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has made the very substance of wine unlawful, in a small or large quantity. It is unlawful just as dead animals, blood and pork are unlawful. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ وَ كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ خَمْرٌ.
“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘All intoxicating liquor is unlawful and every intoxicating liquor is wine.’”
قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي عَمِّي وَ هُوَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ صُلَحَاءِ مَوَالِيكَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ عَنِ النَّبِيذِ فَأَصِفَهُ لَكَ فَقَالَ ع لَهُ أَنَا أَصِفُهُ لَكَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ فَمَا أَسْكَرَ كَثِيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرَامٌ قَالَ قُلْتُ فَقَلِيلُ الْحَرَامِ يُحِلُّهُ كَثِيرُ الْمَاءِ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ بِكَفِّهِ مَرَّتَيْنِ لَا لَا.
“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), that a man of the virtuous ones among your followers has asked me to ask you about al-Nabidh (wine) so I can describe it for him from you. He (the Imam) said, ‘I describe it for you as the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Every intoxicating liquor is unlawful and whatever in a large
سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ النَّبِيذِ فَقَالَ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ الْخَمْرَ بِعَيْنِهَا وَ حَرَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مِنَ الْأَشْرِبَةِ كُلَّ مُسْكِرٍ.
“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about al-Nabidh. سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ النَّبِيذِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص خَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَلَا إِنَّ كُلَّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ أَلَا وَ مَا أَسْكَرَ كَثِيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرَامٌ.
“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about al-Nabidh. He (the Imam) said that once the Messenger of Allah addressed the people and said, £ 0 people, all intoxicating liquor is unlawful. You must take notice that whatever in large quantity is intoxicating liquor, it in a small quantity also is unlawful.’”
كُنْتُ مُبْتَلًى بِالنَّبِيذِ مُعْجَباً بِهِ فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ أَصِفُ لَكَ النَّبِيذَ قَالَ فَقَالَ لِي بَلْ أَنَا أَصِفُهُ لَكَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ وَ مَا أَسْكَرَ كَثِيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرَامٌ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ هَذَا نَبِيذُ السِّقَايَةِ بِفِنَاءِ الْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ لِي لَيْسَ هَكَذَا كَانَتِ السِّقَايَةُ إِنَّمَا السِّقَايَةُ زَمْزَمُ أَ فَتَدْرِي مَنْ أَوَّ
“I liked al-Nabidh a great deal and I said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I want to describe al-Nabidh before you.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘No, allow me to describe it for you. سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ التَّمْرِ وَ الزَّبِيبِ يُطْبَخَانِ لِلنَّبِيذِ فَقَالَ لَا وَ قَالَ كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ وَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص كُلُّ مَا أَسْكَرَ كَثِيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرَامٌ وَ قَالَ لَا يَصْلُحُ فِي النَّبِيذِ الْخَمِيرَةُ وَ هِيَ الْعَكَرَةُ[1].
“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), if dates and raisins can be cooked for al-Nabidh. He (the Imam) said, ‘No.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘All intoxicating liquor is unlawful and the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “Whatever in larg
ابْتَدَأَنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَوْماً مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ أَسْأَلَهُ فَقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ كُلُّهُ حَرَامٌ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ الْجُرْعَةُ مِنْهُ حَرَامٌ.
all intoxicating liquor is unlawful.’ I then asked saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, is all of it unlawful?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, even one sip is unlawful.’”
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ الْخَمْرَةَ قَلِيلَهَا وَ كَثِيرَهَا كَمَا حَرَّمَ الْمَيْتَةَ وَ الدَّمَ وَ لَحْمَ الْخِنْزِيرِ وَ حَرَّمَ النَّبِيُّ ص مِنَ الْأَشْرِبَةِ الْمُسْكِرَ وَ مَا حَرَّمَ النَّبِيُّ ص فَقَدْ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ قَالَ مَا أَسْكَرَ كَثِيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرَامٌ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah has made wine unlawful, regardless of its being a small or large quantity as He has made dead animals, blood and pork unlawful. اسْتَأْذَنْتُ لِبَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ النَّبِيذِ فَقَالَ حَلَالٌ فَقَالَ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ إِنَّمَا سَأَلْتُكَ عَنِ النَّبِيذِ الَّذِي يُجْعَلُ فِيهِ الْعَكَرُ فَيَغْلِي حَتَّى يُسْكِرَ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ فَإِنَّ مَنْ عِنْدَنَا بِالْعِرَاقِ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص إِن
“I once asked for permission from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), for a certain person of our people and he asked him (the Imam) about al-Nabidh. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is lawful.’ He said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, I asked about al-Nabidh which is placed in al-‘Akr (murky) to boil until it becomes intoxicating.’ Abu
سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا يَقُولُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَا تَقُولُ فِي النَّبِيذِ فَإِنَّ أَبَا مَرْيَمَ يَشْرَبُهُ وَ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّكَ أَمَرْتَ بِشُرْبِهِ فَقَالَ مَعَاذَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَنْ أَكُونَ آمُرُ بِشُرْبِ مُسْكِرٍ وَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَشَيْءٌ مَا اتَّقَيْتُ فِيهِ سُلْطَاناً وَ لَا غَيْرَهُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ فَمَا أَسْكَرَ كَثِيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرَامٌ.
‘All intoxicating liquor is unlawful. What is intoxicating in large quantity, it is unlawful in small quantity also.’”
