قُلْتُ لِأَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع إِنَّ لِي جَارَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا نَاصِبٌ‌[3] وَ الْآخَرُ زَيْدِيٌّ وَ لَا بُدَّ مِنْ مُعَاشَرَتِهِمَا فَمَنْ أُعَاشِرُ فَقَالَ هُمَا سِيَّانِ‌[4] مَنْ كَذَّبَ بِآيَةٍ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَقَدْ نَبَذَ الْإِسْلَامَ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ وَ هُوَ الْمُكَذِّبُ بِجَمِيعِ الْقُرْآنِ وَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا نَصَبَ لَكَ وَ هَذَا الزَّيْدِيُّ نَصَبَ لَنَا.

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مِنْ حُجْرَتِهِ وَ مَرْوَانُ وَ أَبُوهُ يَسْتَمِعَانِ إِلَى حَدِيثِهِ‌[5] فَقَالَ لَهُ الْوَزَغُ ابْنُ الْوَزَغِ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَمِنْ يَوْمِئِذٍ يَرَوْنَ أَنَّ الْوَزَغَ يَسْمَعُ الْحَدِيثَ.

‘The Rasool Allah (saww) came out of his (saww) chamber, and Marwaan and his father were both trying to listen to his (saww) narration. So he (saww) said for him: ‘The lizard, son of a lizard!’ Abu Abdullah (asws) said: ‘From that time they are reporting that the lizard listens to the narrations’.

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ع فِي أَيَّامِ هَارُونَ إِنَّكَ قَدْ شَهَرْتَ نَفْسَكَ بِهَذَا الْأَمْرِ وَ جَلَسْتَ مَجْلِسَ أَبِيكَ وَ سَيْفُ هَارُونَ يُقَطِّرُ الدَّمَ فَقَالَ جَرَّأَنِي عَلَى هَذَا مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِنْ أَخَذَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ مِنْ‌ رَأْسِي شَعْرَةً فَاشْهَدُوا أَنِّي لَسْتُ بِنَبِيٍّ وَ أَنَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ إِنْ أَخَذَ هَارُونُ مِنْ رَأْسِي شَعْرَةً فَاشْهَدُوا أَنِّي لَسْتُ بِإِمَامٍ.

إِنَّ مِنْ وَرَاءِ الْيَمَنِ وَادِياً يُقَالُ لَهُ- وَادِي بَرَهُوتَ وَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ ذَلِكَ الْوَادِيَ إِلَّا الْحَيَّاتُ السُّودُ وَ الْبُومُ مِنَ الطُّيُورِ فِي ذَلِكَ الْوَادِي بِئْرٌ يُقَالُ لَهَا بَلَهُوتُ يُغْدَى وَ يُرَاحُ إِلَيْهَا بِأَرْوَاحِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ‌[4] يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ مَاءِ الصَّدِيدِ[5] خَلْفَ ذَلِكَ الْوَادِي قَوْمٌ يُقَالُ لَهُمُ الذَّرِيحُ‌[6]- لَمَّا أَنْ بَعَثَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى مُحَمَّداً ص ص

When the Rasool Allah (saww) came out of the cave, he (saww) turned his direction towards Al-Medina, and the Qureysh had placed a reward of one hundred camels for anyone who could capture him (saww). ‘The Rasool Allah (saww) did not speak to the servants in accordance with his (saww) own reasoning and intellect, at all. The Rasool Allah (saww) said: ‘The group of Prophets (as), we (as) have been Commanded that we (as) should speak to the people in accordance with their intellects’.

I said to Abu Abdullah (asws), ‘When one of us becomes ill, the healers order us to go on a diet’. So he (asws) said: ‘But, the People (asws) of the Household, we (asws) do not stay away except from the dates, and we (asws) cure by the apple and the cold water’. I said, ‘And why do you (asws) keep away from the dates?’

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ عِنْدَهُ أَبُو حَنِيفَةَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ رَأَيْتُ رُؤْيَا عَجِيبَةً فَقَالَ لِي يَا ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ هَاتِهَا فَإِنَّ الْعَالِمَ بِهَا جَالِسٌ وَ أَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ رَأَيْتُ كَأَنِّي دَخَلْتُ دَارِي وَ إِذَا أَهْلِي قَدْ خَرَجَتْ عَلَيَّ فَكَسَّرَتْ جَوْزاً كَثِيراً وَ نَثَرَتْهُ عَلَيَّ فَتَعَجَّبْتُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الرُّؤْيَا فَقَ

‘I came up to Abu Abdullah (asws) and in his (asws) presence was Abu Hanifa. So I said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you (asws), I saw a strange dream’. So he (asws) said to me: ‘O Ibn Muslim, relate it for the knowledgeable one for he is seated here’ – and he (asws) indicated by his (asws) hand to Abu Hanifa. So I said, ‘

أَتَى إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ رَأَيْتُ فِي مَنَامِي كَأَنِّي خَارِجٌ مِنْ مَدِينَةِ الْكُوفَةِ فِي مَوْضِعٍ أَعْرِفُهُ وَ كَأَنَّ شَبَحاً مِنْ خَشَبٍ أَوْ رَجُلًا مَنْحُوتاً[2] مِنْ خَشَبٍ عَلَى فَرَسٍ مِنْ خَشَبٍ يُلَوِّحُ بِسَيْفِهِ‌[3] وَ أَنَا أُشَاهِدُهُ فَزِعاً مَرْعُوباً فَقَالَ لَهُ ع أَنْتَ رَجُلٌ تُرِيدُ اغْتِيَالَ رَجُلٍ فِي مَعِيشَتِهِ‌[4] فَاتَّقِ اللَّه

I saw in my dream as if I was outside of the city of Al-Kufa in a place which I recognised, and there was a ghost of a man made of wood, riding a wooden horse and waving his sword, and I saw him and was terrified and in a panic’. قُلْتُ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَفْزَعُونَ إِذَا قُلْنَا إِنَّ النَّاسَ ارْتَدُّوا فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ الرَّحِيمِ إِنَّ النَّاسَ عَادُوا بَعْدَ مَا قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَهْلَ جَاهِلِيَّةٍ إِنَّ الْأَنْصَارَ اعْتَزَلَتْ فَلَمْ تَعْتَزِلْ بِخَيْرٍ[2] جَعَلُوا يُبَايِعُونَ سَعْداً وَ هُمْ يَرْتَجِزُونَ ارْتِجَازَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ[3] يَا سَعْدُ أَنْتَ الْمُرَجَّى وَ شَعْرُكَ الْمُرَجَّلُ وَ فَحْلُكَ الْمُرَج
