سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ حِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ بِالذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ.
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about women’s using gold and silver as ornaments. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’”
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ حِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ بِالذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ.
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about women’s using gold and silver as ornaments. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’”
كَانَ نَعْلُ سَيْفِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص وَ قَائِمَتُهُ فِضَّةً وَ كَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ حَلَقٌ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَ لَبِسْتُ دِرْعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص فَكُنْتُ أَسْحَبُهَا وَ فِيهَا ثَلَاثُ حَلَقَاتِ فِضَّةٍ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهَا وَ ثِنْتَانِ مِنْ خَلْفِهَا.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Nad (the end of the sheath) al-Qa’imah (the handle) of the sword of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services t
لَيْسَ بِتَحْلِيَةِ السَّيْفِ بَأْسٌ بِالذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not unlawful to decorate the sword with gold and silver.’”
أَنَّ حِلْيَةَ سَيْفِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص كَانَتْ فِضَّةً كُلُّهَا قَائِمَتُهُ وَ قِبَاعُهُ.
‘The sword of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, was decorated with gold and silver, as well as its Qa’imah (handle) and Qiba‘ (hilt).”’
لَيْسَ بِتَحْلِيَةِ الْمَصَاحِفِ وَ السُّيُوفِ بِالذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ بَأْسٌ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not unlawful to decorate al-Musahaf (Quran and books) and swords with gold and silver.’”
لَمْ تَزَلِ النِّسَاءُ يَلْبَسْنَ الْحُلِيَّ. - مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع مِثْلَهُ.
“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘Women can continue wearing ornaments.’” Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from Aban from Muhammad ibn Muslim from abu Ja‘far (a.s.), a similar Hadith.
إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ص تَخَتَّمَ فِي يَسَارِهِ بِخَاتَمٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَ طَفِقَ النَّاسُ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهِ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى خِنْصِرِهِ الْيُسْرَى حَتَّى رَجَعَ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ فَرَمَى بِهِ فَمَا لَبِسَهُ. - عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنِ الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ حَاتِمِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مِثْلَهُ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, wore the ring on his left hand which was of gold then he appeared among people who continued staring at it. سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ سَرِيرٍ فِيهِ الذَّهَبُ أَ يَصْلُحُ إِمْسَاكُهُ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ ذَهَباً فَلَا وَ إِنْ كَانَ مَاءَ الذَّهَبِ فَلَا بَأْسَ.
‘It is not unlawful if it is golden; but if it is gold then it is not lawful.’”
دَخَلَ قَوْمٌ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ع فَقَالُوا يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ نَرَى فِي مَنْزِلِكَ أَشْيَاءَ نَكْرَهُهَا وَ إِذَا فِي مَنْزِلِهِ بُسُطٌ وَ نَمَارِقُ فَقَالَ ع إِنَّا نَتَزَوَّجُ النِّسَاءَ فَنُعْطِيهِنَّ مُهُورَهُنَّ فَيَشْتَرِينَ مَا شِئْنَ لَيْسَ لَنَا مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ.
In his home there were pleasing spreading and cushions. He (the Imam) (a.s.), said, ‘We marry women and give them their mahr (dower). They buy whatever they want and we do not have anything to say about it.’”
دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع فَرَأَيْتُ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ بُسُطاً وَ وَسَائِدَ وَ أَنْمَاطاً وَ مَرَافِقَ[1] فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذَا فَقَالَ مَتَاعُ الْمَرْأَةِ.
“I once visited abu Ja‘far (a.s.), and in his house I saw spreading, cushions, furnishings and pillows and I asked, ‘What are these?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘These are the belongings of the woman (wife the Imam).’”
قُلْتُ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ يَعْمَلُونَ لَهُ ما يَشاءُ مِنْ مَحارِيبَ وَ تَماثِيلَ وَ جِفانٍ كَالْجَوابِ[1] قَالَ مَا هِيَ تَمَاثِيلَ الرِّجَالِ وَ النِّسَاءِ وَ لَكِنَّهَا تَمَاثِيلُ الشَّجَرِ وَ شِبْهِهِ.
“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the meaning of the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘They made for him whatever he wanted, such as Salat (prayer) niche, statues, basins like wells. . . .’ (34:13) He (the Imam) said, ‘They were not statues of men and women but they were the figures of trees and simil
كَانَتْ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ع وَسَائِدُ وَ أَنْمَاطٌ فِيهَا تَمَاثِيلُ يَجْلِسُ عَلَيْهَا.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, (in his house) had pillows and floor furnishings which had pictures (of sceneries) on which he (the Imam) sat.’”
دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع فِي بَيْتٍ مُنَجَّدٍ ثُمَّ عُدْتُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الْغَدِ وَ هُوَ فِي بَيْتٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ إِلَّا حَصِيرٌ وَ عَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ غَلِيظٌ فَقَالَ الْبَيْتُ الَّذِي رَأَيْتَهُ لَيْسَ بَيْتِي إِنَّمَا هُوَ بَيْتُ الْمَرْأَةِ وَ كَانَ أَمْسِ يَوْمُهَا.
“I once visited abu Ja‘far (a.s.), in a well-furnished house; and the next day I visited him in a house where there was nothing except a mat. He (the Imam) wore a thick and rough-textured shirt. He (the Imam) said, ‘The house that you saw was not my house. It was the house of the woman and yesterday was her day.’”
دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع وَ هُوَ جَالِسٌ عَلَى مَتَاعٍ فَجَعَلْتُ أَلْمِسُ الْمَتَاعَ بِيَدِي فَقَالَ هَذَا الَّذِي تَلْمِسُهُ بِيَدِكَ أَرْمَنِيٌّ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ وَ مَا أَنْتَ وَ الْأَرْمَنِيَّ فَقَالَ هَذَا مَتَاعٌ جَاءَتْ بِهِ- أُمُّ عَلِيٍّ امْرَأَةٌ لَهُ فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنْ قَابِلٍ دَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَجَعَلْتُ أَلْمِسُ مَا تَحْتِي فَقَالَ كَأَنَّكَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَنْظُرَ مَا تَحْتَكَ فَقُلْتُ لَا وَ لَكِنَّ
“I once visited abu Ja‘far (a.s.). He was sitting on a certain furnishing. I kept touching it with my hand. He (the Imam) said, ‘What you are touching is from Armenia.’ I then asked, ‘What do you have to do with Armenia?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘This is what mother of Ali (wife of the Imam) has brought.’ I then visited hi
سَمِعْتُ الرِّضَا ع يَقُولُ قَالَ قَائِلٌ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع يَجْلِسُ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى بِسَاطٍ فِيهِ تَمَاثِيلُ فَقَالَ الْأَعَاجِمُ تُعَظِّمُهُ وَ إِنَّا لَنَمْتَهِنُهُ[2].
“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘Once a man asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), if a man can sit on a furnishing which has pictures of things on it. He (the Imam) said, ‘Al-’A‘ajim (non- Arab) respect it, but we do not consider it important.’”
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ص عَنِ الْفِرَاشِ الْحَرِيرِ وَ مِثْلِهِ مِنَ الدِّيبَاجِ وَ الْمُصَلَّى الْحَرِيرِ وَ مِثْلِهِ مِنَ الدِّيبَاجِ- هَلْ يَصْلُحُ لِلرَّجُلِ النَّوْمُ عَلَيْهِ وَ التُّكَأَةُ وَ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَالَ يَفْرُشُهُ وَ يَقُومُ عَلَيْهِ وَ لَا يَسْجُدُ عَلَيْهِ[1].
“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about silk furnishings and similarly about brocaded items, prayer rugs of silk and of brocaded ones; if it is proper for a man to sleep on it, perform Salat (prayer) or lean against it. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can spread it and stand on it but he cannot perform Sajdah (prostration) o
سَأَلَنِي شِهَابُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ أَنْ أَسْتَأْذِنَ لَهُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَأَعْلَمْتُ ذَلِكَ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَقَالَ قُلْ لَهُ يَأْتِينَا إِذَا شَاءَ فَأَدْخَلْتُهُ عَلَيْهِ لَيْلًا وَ شِهَابٌ مُقَنَّعُ الرَّأْسِ فَطُرِحَتْ لَهُ وِسَادَةٌ فَجَلَسَ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَلْقِ قِنَاعَكَ يَا شِهَابُ فَإِنَّ الْقِنَاعَ رِيبَةٌ بِاللَّيْلِ مَذَلَّةٌ بِالنَّهَارِ.
“Once Shihab ibn ‘ Abd Rabbihi asked me to ask permission for him to visit abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), and I informed him (the Imam) about it. He (the Imam) said, ’He can visit if he likes.’ I took him to the house of abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.). It was during the night and Shihab had a mask on him. I found a furnishing for him
قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ص إِذَا ظَهَرَتِ الْقَلَانِسُ الْمُتَرِّكَةُ ظَهَرَ الزِّنَا[2].
When al-Matrakah (a certain kind of cape) becomes public, so also will become fornication.’”
أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ طَيُّ الثِّيَابِ رَاحَتُهَا وَ هُوَ أَبْقَى لَهَا.
“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘Folding clothes is giving them rest and durability.’”
خَرَجْتُ وَ أَنَا أُرِيدُ دَاوُدَ بْنَ عِيسَى بْنِ عَلِيٍّ وَ كَانَ يَنْزِلُ بِئْرَ مَيْمُونٍ وَ عَلَيَّ ثَوْبَانِ غَلِيظَانِ فَرَأَيْتُ امْرَأَةً عَجُوزاً وَ مَعَهَا جَارِيَتَانِ فَقُلْتُ يَا عَجُوزُ أَ تُبَاعُ هَاتَانِ الْجَارِيَتَانِ فَقَالَتْ نَعَمْ وَ لَكِنْ لَا يَشْتَرِيهِمَا مِثْلُكَ قُلْتُ وَ لِمَ قَالَتْ لِأَنَّ إِحْدَاهُمَا مُغَنِّيَةٌ وَ الْأُخْرَى زَامِرَةٌ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى دَاوُدَ بْنِ عِيسَى فَرَفَعَنِ
‘Once I left home to visit Dawud ibn ‘Isa ibn Ali who camped at Maymun well. I had two thick pieces of clothes on me and I saw an old woman and two girls with her. I asked her if she sells them. She said, ‘Yes, but a man like you will not buy them.’ I asked, ‘Why is it so?’ She replied, ‘One is a singer and the other i
أَنَّهُ كَرِهَ لُبْسَ الْبُرْطُلَةِ[1].
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), disliked wearing al-Burtalah (a deep cape).”
نَظَرَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِلَى فِرَاشٍ فِي دَارِ رَجُلٍ فَقَالَ فِرَاشٌ لِلرَّجُلِ وَ فِرَاشٌ لِأَهْلِهِ وَ فِرَاشٌ لِضَيْفِهِ وَ فِرَاشٌ لِلشَّيْطَانِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once looked at the furnishings in the house of a man, and said, ‘A spreading for the man, one for his wife, one for his guests and one for Satan.’”
مَنْ لَبِسَ السَّرَاوِيلَ مِنْ قُعُودٍ وُقِيَ وَجَعَ الْخَاصِرَةِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one wears a loincloth in a sitting position, he remains safe from lower back pain.’”
سَعَةُ الْجُرُبَّانِ[2] وَ نَبَاتُ الشَّعْرِ فِي الْأَنْفِ أَمَانٌ مِنَ الْجُذَامِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَ مَا سَمِعْتَ قَوْلَ الشَّاعِرِ- وَ لَا تَرَى قَمِيصِي إِلَّا وَاسِعَ الْجَيْبِ وَ الْيَدِ .
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Growing hairs in the nose and spacious shirt afford immunity from leprosy. Have you not heard a poet’s saying, “You will not see my shirt other than being of wide sides and sleeves?”’
قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع مِنْ مُرُوءَةِ الرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَكُونَ دَوَابُّهُ سِمَاناً قَالَ وَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ ثَلَاثَةٌ مِنَ الْمُرُوءَةِ فَرَاهَةُ الدَّابَّةِ وَ حُسْنُ وَجْهِ الْمَمْلُوكِ وَ الْفَرْشُ السَّرِيُّ.
“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘One sign of the manhood of a man is plumpness of his stumpers.’ He (the narrator) has said that he heard him (the Imam) saying, ‘Three things are of the signs of manhood of a man. One is liveliness of his stumper, good looking slaves and distinguished house furnishings.’”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لَا يَمْسَحْ أَحَدُكُمْ بِثَوْبِ مَنْ لَمْ يَكْسَهُ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must not touch the clothes of one who has not yet worn them.’”
اطْوُوا ثِيَابَكُمْ بِاللَّيْلِ فَإِنَّهَا إِذَا كَانَتْ مَنْشُورَةً لَبِسَهَا الشَّيْطَانُ بِاللَّيْلِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Fold your clothes for the night because Satan wears during the night the spread out clothes.’”
اسْتَقْبَلَنِي أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع وَ قَدْ عَلَّقْتُ سَمَكَةً فِي يَدِي فَقَالَ اقْذِفْهَا إِنَّنِي لَأَكْرَهُ لِلرَّجُلِ السَّرِيِّ أَنْ يَحْمِلَ الشَّيْءَ الدَّنِيَّ بِنَفْسِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ أَعْدَاؤُكُمْ كَثِيرَةٌ عَادَاكُمُ الْخَلْقُ يَا مَعْشَرَ الشِّيعَةِ إِنَّكُمْ قَدْ عَادَاكُمُ الْخَلْقُ فَتَزَيَّنُوا لَهُمْ بِمَا قَدَرْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ.
“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), welcomed me and I was hanging a fish in my hand. He (the Imam) said, ‘Throw it away; I dislike that a noble and high ranking man himself carry something unimportant.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You are a people who have a large number of enemies. دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع وَ قَدِ اخْتَضَبَ بِالسَّوَادِ فَقُلْتُ أَرَاكَ قَدِ اخْتَضَبْتَ بِالسَّوَادِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ فِي الْخِضَابِ أَجْراً وَ الْخِضَابُ وَ التَّهْيِئَةُ مِمَّا يَزِيدُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي عِفَّةِ النِّسَاءِ وَ لَقَدْ تَرَكَ النِّسَاءُ الْعِفَّةَ بِتَرْكِ أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ لَهُنَّ التَّهْيِئَةَ قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ الْحِنَّاءَ يَزِيدُ فِي الشَّيْبِ قَالَ أَيُّ شَيْءٍ يَزِيدُ فِي

I said to him (the Imam), ‘I see that you have applied black dye to your hairs.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘In applying dye there is reward. جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ص فَنَظَرَ إِلَى الشَّيْبِ فِي لِحْيَتِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص نُورٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ شَابَ شَيْبَةً فِي الْإِسْلَامِ كَانَتْ لَهُ نُوراً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَ فَخَضَبَ الرَّجُلُ بِالْحِنَّاءِ ثُمَّ جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ص فَلَمَّا رَأَى الْخِضَابَ قَالَ نُورٌ وَ إِسْلَامٌ فَخَضَبَ الرَّجُلُ بِالسَّوَادِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص نُورٌ وَ إِسْلَامٌ وَ إِيمَانٌ وَ مَحَبَّةٌ إِلَى نِسَائِك
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that once a man came to the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. He (the Messenger of Allah) looked at the signs of oldness in his beard. The Holy Prophet said, ‘It is light.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) then said,
دَخَلَ قَوْمٌ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع فَرَأَوْهُ مُخْتَضِباً بِالسَّوَادِ فَسَأَلُوهُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي رَجُلٌ أُحِبُّ النِّسَاءَ وَ أَنَا أَتَصَنَّعُ لَهُنَ[1].
‘I am a man who loves women, and I adorn myself for them.
دَخَلَ قَوْمٌ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ص فَرَأَوْهُ مُخْتَضِباً بِالسَّوَادِ فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَمَدَّ يَدَهُ إِلَى لِحْيَتِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص فِي غَزَاةٍ غَزَاهَا أَنْ يَخْتَضِبُوا بِالسَّوَادِ لِيَقْوَوْا بِهِ عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ.
‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, in an armed expedition commanded them to apply black dye so they can overpower the pagans.’”
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ خِضَابِ اللِّحْيَةِ وَ الرَّأْسِ أَ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ إِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ص لَمْ يَخْتَضِبْ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا مَنَعَهُ قَوْلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص إِنَّ هَذِهِ سَتُخْضَبُ مِنْ هَذِهِ.
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of coloring the beard and head if it is of Sunnah. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, it is of the Sunnah .’ I then said, ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), did not use dye.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is because of the words of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muha
فِي الْخِضَابِ ثَلَاثُ خِصَالٍ مَهْيَبَةٌ فِي الْحَرْبِ وَ مَحَبَّةٌ إِلَى النِّسَاءِ وَ يَزِيدُ فِي الْبَاهِ.
’In al-Khidab (applying hair dye) there are three positive qualities. It shows one’s firmness in war, love of women and increase in sexual desire.’”
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ خِضَابِ الشَّعْرِ فَقَالَ قَدْ خَضَبَ النَّبِيُّ ص وَ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع بِالْكَتَمِ[2].
‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, applied it as well as al-Husayn and abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, with al- Katam (a plant that looks like myrtle and gives out a black dye).”’
خَضَبَ النَّبِيُّ ص وَ لَمْ يَمْنَعْ عَلِيّاً ع إِلَّا قَوْلُ النَّبِيِّ ص تَخْتَضِبُ هَذِهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ وَ قَدْ خَضَبَ الْحُسَيْنُ وَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, applied hair dye and ’Amir al-Mu’minin did not apply it because of the words of the Holy Prophet, ‘This will be dyed with this’ . Al-Husayn and abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ خِضَابِ الشَّعْرِ فَقَالَ خَضَبَ الْحُسَيْنُ وَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ص بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَ الْكَتَمِ.
“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about al-Khidab (hair dye). He (the Imam) said, ’Al- Husayn and abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, applied hair dye with henna and al-Katam.’”
رَأَيْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع[1] يَخْتَضِبُ بِالْحِنَّاءِ خِضَاباً قَانِياً.
“I saw abu Ja’far (a.s.), had applied hair dye with henna of red color.’”
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِيَّاكَ وَ نُصُولَ الْخِضَابِ[2] فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ بُؤْسٌ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘You must not allow the hair dye to wear off because it is despair.’”
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص نَفَقَةُ دِرْهَمٍ فِي الْخِضَابِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ نَفَقَةِ دِرْهَمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فِيهِ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ خَصْلَةً يَطْرُدُ الرِّيحَ مِنَ الْأُذُنَيْنِ وَ يَجْلُو الْغِشَاءَ عَنِ الْبَصَرِ وَ يُلَيِّنُ الْخَيَاشِيمَ وَ يُطَيِّبُ النَّكْهَةَ وَ يَشُدُّ اللِّثَةَ وَ يَذْهَبُ بِالْغَشَيَانِ وَ يُقِلُّ وَسْوَسَةَ الشَّيْطَانِ وَ تَفْرَحُ بِهِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَ يَسْتَبْشِرُ بِهِ الْمُؤْمِنُ وَ
“The Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Spending one dirham on hair dye is better than spending one dirham in the way of Allah. There are fourteen advantages in it. It dispels air from the ears, brightens gloominess from the eyes, soft
كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ وَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ وَ أَبِي حَسَّانَ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ عَلْقَمَةُ مُخْتَضِبٌ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَ الْحَارِثُ مُخْتَضِبٌ بِالْوَسِمَةِ وَ أَبُو حَسَّانَ لَا يَخْتَضِبُ فَقَالَ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ مَا تَرَى فِي هَذَا رَحِمَكَ اللَّهُ وَ أَشَارَ إِلَى لِحْيَتِهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَا أَحْسَنَهُ قَالُوا كَانَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع مُخْتَضِباً بِالْوَسِمَةِ قَ
“Once abu ‘Alqamah, al-Harith ibn al-Mughirah, abu Hassan and I were with abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), and ‘Alqamah had applied hair dye with henna, al-Harith had applied hair dye with woad and abu Hassan would not apply hair dye. Every man pointing to his beard asked him (the Imam), ‘What do you say about it (hair dye), ma
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْوَسِمَةِ فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ بِهَا لِلشَّيْخِ الْكَبِيرِ.
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about applying Woad. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful to an old man ."
رَأَيْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع يَمْضَغُ عِلْكاً[1] فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ نَقَضَتِ الْوَسِمَةُ أَضْرَاسِي فَمَضَغْتُ هَذَا الْعِلْكَ لِأَشُدَّهَا قَالَ وَ كَانَتِ اسْتَرْخَتْ فَشَدَّهَا بِالذَّهَبِ.
“I once saw abu Ja‘far (a.s.), chewing gums and he (the Imam) said, ‘O Muhammad, woad has loosened my molar teeth so I chew gums to strengthen them . 5 His teeth had become loose so he tied them with gold.”
قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع نَقَضَتْ أَضْرَاسِيَ الْوَسِمَةُ.
“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), said, ‘Woad has affected my molar teeth. 5 ”
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قُتِلَ الْحُسَيْنُ ص وَ هُوَ مُخْتَضِبٌ بِالْوَسِمَةِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘At the time al-Husayn (a.s.), was murdered he had applied hair dye with woad. 5 ”
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْخِضَابِ بِالْوَسِمَةِ فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ قَدْ قُتِلَ الْحُسَيْنُ ع وَ هُوَ مُخْتَضِبٌ بِالْوَسِمَةِ.
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about applying hair dye with woad. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful. At the time al-Husayn (a.s.), was murdered he had applied hair dye with woad. 5 ”
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ الْخِضَابُ بِالسَّوَادِ أُنْسٌ لِلنِّسَاءِ وَ مَهَابَةٌ لِلْعَدُوِّ.
Applying black hair dye is entertaining for women and show one’s firmness to the enemy. 5 ”
الْحِنَّاءُ يَزِيدُ فِي مَاءِ الْوَجْهِ وَ يُكْثِرُ الشَّيْبَ.
“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Applying hair dye with henna increases the beauty of the face as well as gray hairs.”’
قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع الْحِنَّاءُ يَشْعَلُ الشَّيْبَ.
“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘Applying hair dye with henna stirs up gray hairs.’”
رَأَيْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع مَخْضُوباً بِالْحِنَّاءِ.
“I saw abu Ja‘far (a.s.), had applied hair dye with henna.’”
