قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَكُونُ مَعَ الْإِمَامِ فَأَفْرُغُ مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَفْرُغَ قَالَ أَبْقِ آيَةً وَ مَجِّدِ اللَّهَ وَ أَثْنِ عَلَيْهِ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ فَاقْرَأِ الْآيَةَ وَ ارْكَعْ.

“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), ’In Salah (prayer) with an Imam I complete the recitation before he does.’ He (the Imam) said, ’Leave one verse, speak of the glory of Allah and praise Him and when he (the Imam) completes, read that verse, then perform Ruku’ (bowing down on one’s knees).”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘When you perform Salah (prayer) behind an Imam and are happy with him in Salah (prayer) of which recitation is to be read aloud and you do not hear his recitation, then recite to yourself, but if you hear a humming sound, do not recite.’”

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who performs Salah (prayer) and has completed only one Rak‘at of an obligatory Salah (prayer) that the Imam arrives. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he is an Imam who possesses the quality of justice, he performs one more Rak‘at, completes and makes it an optional Salah (prayer)

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَأْتِي الْمَسْجِدَ وَ هُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَ قَدْ سَبَقَهُ الْإِمَامُ بِرَكْعَةٍ أَوْ أَكْثَرَ فَيَعْتَلُّ الْإِمَامُ فَيَأْخُذُ بِيَدِهِ فَيَكُونُ أَدْنَى الْقَوْمِ إِلَيْهِ فَيُقَدِّمُهُ‌[1] فَقَالَ يُتِمُّ صَلَاةَ الْقَوْمِ ثُمَّ يَجْلِسُ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرَغُوا مِنَ التَّشَهُّدِ أَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِمْ بِيَدِهِ‌[2] عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَ الشِّمَالِ فَكَانَ الَّذِي أَوْمَأَ إِ

قَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ كَيْفَ سُمِّيَتِ الْجُمُعَةُ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ جَمَعَ فِيهَا خَلْقَهُ لِوَلَايَةِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ وَصِيِّهِ فِي الْمِيثَاقِ فَسَمَّاهُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ لِجَمْعِهِ فِيهِ خَلْقَهُ.

The Imam said, ’Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, brought His creatures under the Divine Authority of Muhammad (a.s.), and the Executor of his will during “the divine Covenant session”, and that session was called “al-Jumu‘ah” (the assembly) because of His calling His creatures together.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When the Imam delivers the sermon on Friday, it is not desirable for anyone to speak until he completes the sermon. When the Imam completes the sermons he can speak until Salah (prayer) begins, regardless of whether he hears the recitation or not; it is sufficient.’”

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘It has Adhan and ‘Iqamah and the Imam comes out after Adhan, climbs the pulpit and delivers the sermon. People do not perform Salah (prayer) until the Imam is on the pulpit. He then sits on the pulpit for a time, which takes one to read Chapter 112
