سَأَلَ مُرَازِمٌ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ أَنَا مَعَهُ حَاضِرٌ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ الْحَاضِرِ يُصَلِّي فِي إِزَارٍ مُرْتَدِياً بِهِ‌[2] قَالَ يَجْعَلُ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ مِنْدِيلًا أَوْ عِمَامَةً يَتَرَدَّى بِهِ.

‘He is to secure it with a handkerchief or turban to his neck when wearing.’”

“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not proper to throw a loincloth over a shirt when performing Salah (prayer) or use a loincloth on a shirt when performing Salah (prayer); it is of the manner of dressing in the pre-Islamic age of darkness.”’

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not an offense if one of you perform Salah (prayer) in one piece of cloth and his loincloth is not secured; religion of Muhammad, O Allah grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, is upright.’”

إِذَا كَانَ عَلَيْهِ ثَوْبٌ آخَرُ إِزَارٌ أَوْ سَرَاوِيلُ فَلَا بَأْسَ وَ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فَلَا يَجُوزُ لَهُ ذَلِكَ وَ إِنْ أَدْخَلَ يَداً وَاحِدَةً وَ لَمْ يُدْخِلِ الْأُخْرَى فَلَا بَأْسَ.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who when performing Salah (prayer) enters his hands under his clothes. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not an offense if he has other clothes on him, like a loincloth or pant (pajama); otherwise, it is not permissible, however, entering one hand is not harmful.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Women perform Salah (prayer) in three pieces of clothes: Loincloth, an outer garment with sleeves, and a yashmak. It is not harmful if she uses the Yashmak as a veil and if she does not find, she can use two pieces of clothes using one as loincloth and the other as a veil.’ I (the nar

لَا بَأْسَ بِأَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الرَّجُلُ وَ ثَوْبُهُ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ وَ مَنْكِبَيْهِ فَيُسْبِلُهُ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ‌[1] وَ لَا يَلْتَحِفُ بِهِ وَ أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ رَآهُ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ.

‘It is not an offense if a man performs Salah (prayer) with his clothes on his back and shoulder to allow them to hang downward to the ground and he does not use it as a bed-sheet, as I am told it is done so.’”

سَأَلْتُهُ‌[2] عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَشْتَمِلُ فِي صَلَاةٍ بِثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ قَالَ لَا يَشْتَمِلُ بِثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ فَأَمَّا أَنْ يَتَوَشَّحَ فَيُغَطِّيَ مَنْكِبَيْهِ فَلَا بَأْسَ.

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who wraps himself up in one piece of cloth. He (the Imam) said, ‘He does not wrap himself up in one piece of cloth, but if he uses it as an outer garment that covers his shoulders, it is not harmful.’”

سَأَلْتُهُ‌[4] عَنْ رَجُلٍ يَكُونُ فِي فَلَاةٍ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا ثَوْبٌ وَاحِدٌ وَ أَجْنَبَ فِيهِ وَ لَيْسَ عِنْدَهُ مَاءٌ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ قَالَ يَتَيَمَّمُ وَ يُصَلِّي عُرْيَاناً قَاعِداً يُومِئُ إِيمَاءً.

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who is in wilderness and has no other clothes except one piece and has experienced sexual relation in it. He does not have water. What must he do? He (the Imam) said, ‘He takes Tayammum and performs Salah (prayer) in a sitting position and makes gestures.’”

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع رَجُلٌ خَرَجَ مِنْ سَفِينَةٍ عُرْيَاناً أَوْ سُلِبَ ثِيَابُهُ وَ لَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئاً يُصَلِّي فِيهِ فَقَالَ يُصَلِّي إِيمَاءً فَإِنْ كَانَتِ امْرَأَةً جَعَلَتْ يَدَهَا عَلَى فَرْجِهَا وَ إِنْ كَانَ رَجُلًا وَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى سَوْأَتِهِ ثُمَّ يَجْلِسَانِ فَيُومِئَانِ إِيمَاءً وَ لَا يَسْجُدَانِ وَ لَا يَرْكَعَانِ فَيَبْدُو مَا خَلْفَهُمَا تَكُونُ‌ صَلَاتُهُمَا إِيمَاءً بِرُءُوسِهِمَا قَالَ و

سَأَلَ زُرَارَةُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي الثَّعَالِبِ وَ الْفَنَكِ‌[1] وَ السِّنْجَابِ وَ غَيْرِهِ مِنَ الْوَبَرِ فَأَخْرَجَ كِتَاباً زَعَمَ أَنَّهُ إِمْلَاءُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص أَنَّ الصَّلَاةَ فِي وَبَرِ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ حَرَامٍ أَكْلُهُ فَالصَّلَاةُ فِي وَبَرِهِ وَ شَعْرِهِ وَ جِلْدِهِ وَ بَوْلِهِ وَ رَوْثِهِ وَ أَلْبَانِهِ وَ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ مِنْهُ فَاسِدَةٌ لَا تُقْبَلُ تِلْكَ الصَّلَاةُ حَتَّى تُصَ

“Zurarah once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about foxes, fennec and squirrel and so on of hair. He (the Imam) then took out a book that he (the Imam) thought was of the dictations of the Messenger of Allah and it said, ’Salah (prayer) performed with hair of everything of inedible flesh is unlawful. قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنِّي أَدْخُلُ سُوقَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ أَعْنِي هَذَا الْخَلْقَ الَّذِينَ يَدَّعُونَ الْإِسْلَامَ فَأَشْتَرِي مِنْهُمُ الْفِرَاءَ لِلتِّجَارَةِ فَأَقُولُ لِصَاحِبِهَا أَ لَيْسَ هِيَ ذَكِيَّةٌ فَيَقُولُ بَلَى فَهَلْ يَصْلُحُ لِي أَنْ أَبِيعَهَا عَلَى أَنَّهَا ذَكِيَّةٌ فَقَالَ لَا وَ لَكِنْ لَا بَأْسَ أَنْ تَبِيعَهَا[2] وَ تَقُولَ قَدْ شَرَطَ لِيَ الَّذِي اشْتَرَيْتُهَا مِنْهُ أَنَّهَا ذَك

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ الْمَيْتَةُ يُنْتَفَعُ بِشَيْ‌ءٍ مِنْهَا قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص مَرَّ بِشَاةٍ مَيْتَةٍ فَقَالَ مَا كَانَ عَلَى أَهْلِ هَذِهِ الشَّاةِ إِذْ لَمْ يَنْتَفِعُوا بِلَحْمِهَا أَنْ يَنْتَفِعُوا بِإِهَابِهَا[3] قَالَ تِلْكَ شَاةٌ لِسَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ص وَ كَانَتْ شَاةً مَهْزُولَةً لَا يُنْتَفَعُ بِلَحْمِهَا فَتَرَكُوهَا حَتَّ

وَ ذَكَرَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع أَنَّهُ سَأَلَهُ عَنْ هَذِهِ الْمَسْأَلَةِ فَقَالَ لَا تُصَلِّ فِي الثَّوْبِ الَّذِي فَوْقَهُ وَ لَا فِي الَّذِي تَحْتَهُ.

الرَّجُلُ إِذَا اتَّزَرَ بِثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ إِلَى ثُنْدُوَتِهِ صَلَّى فِيهِ قَالَ‌[3] وَ قَرَأْتُ فِي كِتَابِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع يَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الْفَنَكِ يُصَلَّى فِيهِ فَكَتَبَ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ وَ كَتَبَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ جُلُودِ الْأَرَانِبِ فَكَتَبَ ع مَكْرُوهٌ وَ كَتَبَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ ثَوْبٍ حَشْوُهُ قَزٌّ يُصَلَّى فِيهِ فَكَتَبَ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ‌[4].

“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about performing Salah (prayer) with sable, squirrel and fox. He (the Imam) said, ‘There is nothing good with all of it except squirrel which is an animal that does not eat meat.’”

قَالَ: لَا بُدَّ لِلنَّاسِ مِنْ حِفْظِ بَضَائِعِهِمْ فَإِنْ صَلَّى وَ هِيَ مَعَهُ فَلْتَكُنْ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ وَ لَا يَجْعَلْ شَيْئاً مِنْهَا بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ.

“He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘ People must protect their properties. When performing Salah (prayer) with their belongings around, such things are kept behind them but are not placed between them and al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah).”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the slippers that we buy from the market if we can perform Salah (prayer) with them. He (the Imam) said, ‘Perform Salah (prayer) with them until you are told that it exactly is from dead animals.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who performs Salah (prayer) and there is feces of human being, cat or dog in his clothes, ‘Must he perform his Salah (prayer) again?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He is not required to perform his Salah (prayer) again, if he did not know about it.’”

لَا تُعَادُ الصَّلَاةُ مِنْ دَمٍ لَمْ تُبْصِرْهُ غَيْرَ دَمِ الْحَيْضِ‌[1] فَإِنَّ قَلِيلَهُ وَ كَثِيرَهُ فِي الثَّوْبِ إِنْ رَآهُ أَوْ لَمْ يَرَهُ سَوَاءٌ.

“Abu Ja‘far, or abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘You are not required to perform your Salah (prayer) again, because of blood that you did not see except that which is from Hayd (menses), a small amount or otherwise, you see it or not are all the same.’”
