1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from Salih ibn Razin who has said the following: “Shihab ibn ‘ Abd Rabbihi gave to me a certain amount of dirhams of zakat to distribute among the needy. One day I visited him, and he asked, ‘Did you distribute them?’ I said, ‘No, I have not done so.’ He said something that I did not like. I then threw to him what still was not distributed and got up to leave. He said, ‘Come back and allow me to tell you about something that I heard from Ja’far ibn Muhammad (a.s.).’ I returned and he said to me, ‘I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), “Can I give the amount of zakat I owe to someone I trust so he can distribute among the needy?” He (the Imam) replied, ‘It is just fine. He receives a reward like the donors of charity. Salih has said, “I then took the dirhams back after hearing the Hadith, and distributed them (among the needy).”’”

Yea! it is a promise binding on Him, quite true, but most people do not know”, he (asws) said: ‘O Abu Baseer! What do you (people) say about this Verse?’ I replied, ‘The ‘Mushrikeen’ (polytheists) are alleging and swearing upon oath to the Messenger (saww) of Allah (azwj) that Allah (azwj) does not Resurrect the dead’. Imam (asws) said: ‘Woe be unto the ones who say this. Ask them, ‘Do the ‘Mushrikeen’ swear by Allah (azwj) or by Al-Laat, and Al-Uzza (names of worshipped idols)?’ I replied, ‘May I be sacrificed for you (asws), enlighten me’. Imam (asws) replied to me: ‘O Abu Baseer! When our (asws) Rising One (Al-Qaim (asws)) makes the stand, Allah (azwj) will Send to him (asws) a group from our (asws) Shiites with the sheaths of their swords upon their shoulders. So that (news) will reach a group from our (asws) Shiites who did not die. So they will say, so and so and so and so have been resurrected from their graves and they are with Al-Qaim (asws). So that (news) will reach a group from our (asws) enemies, so they will say, ‘O group of Shiites, what lies you speak. This is your government and you are speaking lies about it? No, by Allah (azwj), those have never lived nor will they ever be living up to the Day of Judgement’. Muhammad ibnYahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Sufyan ibn al-Simt who has said the following: “Once a man asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) ‘What is the difference between Islam and belief?’ The Imam then did not answer. Again he asked and the Imam did not answer. They then met each other on the road while the man was about to leave. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) said, ‘It seems as if you are about to leave.’ He said, ‘Yes, I am about to leave.’ The Imam then said, ‘Come home for a meeting.’ He met the Imam and asked him about Islam and belief and about the difference between the two. The Imam said, ‘Islam is what people have publicly accepted, such as that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, Who has no partners. That Muhammad (a.s.) is His servant and His Messenger, that it is obligatory to perform prayer, pay al-Zakat (charity), to perform Hajj of the House and fast in the month of Ramadan. This is Islam.’ The Imam (also) said, ‘Belief is recognition of this issue (that the Imam possesses Divine Authority). In such a condition, if one affirms the other principles of Islam but does not recognize this issue (that the Imam possesses Divine Authority) he is a Muslim but is lost.’”
