وَ اللَّهِ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع قَطُّ وَ ذَلِكَ أَنِّي سَأَلْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ مَا يُؤْكَلُ مِنَ الطَّيْرِ فَقَالَ كُلْ مَا دَفَّ وَ لَا تَأْكُلْ مَا صَفَّ قُلْتُ الْبَيْضُ فِي الْآجَامِ فَقَالَ مَا اسْتَوَى طَرَفَاهُ‌[1] فَلَا تَأْكُلْهُ وَ مَا اخْتَلَفَ طَرَفَاهُ فَكُلْ قُلْتُ فَطَيْرُ الْمَاءِ قَالَ مَا كَانَتْ لَهُ قَانِصَةٌ فَكُلْ وَ مَا لَمْ تَكُنْ لَهُ قَانِصَةٌ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ.

“I swear by Allah that I have never seen anyone like abu Ja‘far, Alayhi al-Salam. قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ الطِّينُ حَرَامٌ كُلُّهُ كَلَحْمِ الْخِنْزِيرِ وَ مَنْ أَكَلَهُ ثُمَّ مَاتَ فِيهِ لَمْ أُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا طِينَ الْقَبْرِ[2] فَإِنَّ فِيهِ شِفَاءً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ وَ مَنْ أَكَلَهُ لِشَهْوَةٍ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ فِيهِ شِفَاءٌ.

’Eating clay is unlawful in its entirety, like the flesh of pork. If one eats it and dies, I will not perform Salat (prayer) for him except the clay from the grave (of al-Husayn (a.s.) ) in which there is cure for all kinds of illnesses but if one eats it because of strong desire, then there is no cure in it.’”

“‘Abbad al-Basriy was once with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), while eating, abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), placed his hand on the ground. ‘Abbad said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well. If one does not take dinner, it continues praying against him until morning; and it says, ‘May Allah make you hungry just as you kept me hungry, and may Allah make you thirsty just as you kept me thirsty.’ No one of you must neglect taking dinner,

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ يَا يُونُسَ بْنَ ظَبْيَانَ أَبْلِغْ عَطِيَّةَ عَنِّي أَنَّهُ مَنْ شَرِبَ جُرْعَةً مِنْ خَمْرٍ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ مَلَائِكَتُهُ وَ رُسُلُهُ وَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ فَإِنْ شَرِبَهَا حَتَّى يَسْكَرَ مِنْهَا نُزِعَ رُوحُ الْإِيمَانِ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ وَ رَكِبَتْ فِيهِ رُوحٌ سَخِيفَةٌ خَبِيثَةٌ مَلْعُونَةٌ فَيَتْرُكُ الصَّلَاةَ فَإِذَا تَرَكَ الصَّلَاةَ عَيَّرَتْهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَ قَا

مَنْ شَرِبَ مُسْكِراً انْحَبَسَتْ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً وَ إِنْ مَاتَ فِي الْأَرْبَعِينَ مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً فَإِنْ تَابَ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَلَيْهِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is withheld for forty days, and if he dies within the forty days he dies like the people of the time of ignorance, but if he repents (turns to) Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, also turns to him.’”
