وَ جَاءَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ص فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَحْضُرُ الْأَضْحَى وَ لَيْسَ عِنْدِي ثَمَنُ الْأُضْحِيَّةِ فَأَسْتَقْرِضُ وَ أُضَحِّي قَالَ فَاسْتَقْرِضِي فَإِنَّهُ دَيْنٌ مَقْضِيٌ[1].
Hadith.3045 - It is narrated that Umm Salama (may Allah (swt) be pleased with her) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and said: "O Messenger of Allah (swt), the time for sacrifice (Udhiyya) has come, and I do not have the means to afford the sacrificial animal. وَ ضَحَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص بِكَبْشَيْنِ ذَبَحَ وَاحِداً بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ هَذَا عَنِّي وَ عَمَّنْ لَمْ يُضَحِّ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي وَ ذَبَحَ الْآخَرَ وَ قَالَ- اللَّهُمَّ هَذَا عَنِّي وَ عَنْ مَنْ لَمْ يُضَحِّ مِنْ أُمَّتِي[2] وَ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع يُضَحِّي عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص كُلَّ سَنَةٍ بِكَبْشٍ فَيَذْبَحُهُ وَ يَقُولُ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّماواتِ وَ ال
Hadith.3046 - The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) offered a sacrifice of two rams. He slaughtered one with his own hand and said: "O Allah (swt), this is on behalf of me and on behalf of those from my household who could not offer a sacrifice." فِي الْأَضَاحِيِّ أَنْ نَسْتَشْرِفَ الْعَيْنَ وَ الْأُذُنَ وَ نَهَانَا عَنِ الْخَرْقَاءِ وَ الشَّرْقَاءِ وَ الْمُقَابَلَةِ وَ الْمُدَابَرَةِ[3]
لَا يُضَحَّى بِعَرْجَاءَ بَيِّنٍ عَرَجُهَا وَ لَا بِالْعَوْرَاءِ بَيِّنٍ عَوَرُهَا وَ لَا بِالْعَجْفَاءِ وَ لَا بِالْجَرْبَاءِ وَ لَا بِالْجَدْعَاءِ وَ لَا بِالْعَضْبَاءِ[1]. وَ هِيَ الْمَكْسُورَةُ الْقَرْنِ وَ الْجَدْعَاءُ الْمَقْطُوعَةُ الْأُذُنِ

One of the Kharijites asked me about the verse from the Book of Allah (swt), the Exalted, "Eight pairs: of sheep two, and of goats two... and of camels two, and of oxen two" (Surah Al-An‘am: 143–144). He asked: "What has Allah (swt) permitted from these, and what has He forbidden?" I did not have an answer at that time
وَ رَوَى أَبَانٌ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ الْكَبْشُ يُجْزِي عَنِ الرَّجُلِ وَ عَنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ يُضَحِّي بِهِ[2].
"A ram suffices for a man and his household; he may offer it as a sacrifice on their behalf."
تُجْزِي عَنْ سَبْعَةِ نَفَرٍ[3].
Hadith.3051 - Yunus ibn Ya’qub asked Abu Abdullah (as) about sacrificing a cow. Imam (as) said: "It suffices for seven individuals."
«اَلْبَقَرَةُ وَ اَلْبَدَنَةُ تُجْزِيَانِ عَنْ سَبْعَةِ نَفَرٍ إِذَا كَانُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ أَوْ مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ ».
"A cow or a camel suffices for seven individuals, whether they are from one household or from different ones."
الْقَانِعُ هُوَ الَّذِي يَقْنَعُ بِمَا تُعْطِيهِ وَ الْمُعْتَرُّ الَّذِي يَعْتَرِيكَ[1].
Hadith.3053 - Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) was asked about the words of Allah (swt), the Exalted: "Then when they are down on their sides (after being sacrificed), eat from them and feed the contented one and the beggar." (Surah Al-Hajj 22:36) Imam (as) replied: "The 'contented one' is the one who accepts what
وَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع يَتَصَدَّقَانِ بِثُلُثٍ عَلَى جِيرَانِهِمْ وَ بِثُلُثٍ عَلَى السُّؤَّالِ وَ بِثُلُثٍ يُمْسِكَانِهِ لِأَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ[2].
Hadith.3054 - It is narrated that Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn (as) and Imam Abu Ja'far (Al-Baqir) (as) used to distribute their sacrificial meat in three parts: One-third was given to their neighbors. One-third was given to the needy and beggars. One-third was kept for the members of their household.
وَ كَرِهَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَنْ يُطْعَمَ الْمُشْرِكُ مِنْ لُحُومِ الْأَضَاحِيِ[3].
Hadith.3055 - It is narrated that Imam Abu Abdullah (as) disliked giving the meat of sacrificial animals to polytheists.
كُنَّا نَنْهَى النَّاسَ عَنْ إِخْرَاجِ لُحُومِ الْأَضَاحِيِّ مِنْ مِنًى بَعْدَ ثَلَاثٍ لِقِلَّةِ اللَّحْمِ وَ كَثْرَةِ النَّاسِ فَأَمَّا الْيَوْمَ فَقَدْ كَثُرَ اللَّحْمُ وَ قَلَّ النَّاسُ فَلَا بَأْسَ بِإِخْرَاجِهِ[4]
يَأْكُلُ مِنْ أُضْحِيَّتِهِ وَ يَتَصَدَّقُ بِالْفِدَاءِ[2].
Hadith.3057 - Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) was asked about the atonement for hunting: can the individual eat from its meat? Imam (as) replied: "He eats from his sacrificial offering and gives the atonement in charity."
لَا يُضَحَّى إِلَّا بِمَا يُشْتَرَى فِي الْعَشْرِ[3]. وَ الْخَصِيُّ لَا يُجْزِي فِي الْأُضْحِيَّةِ[4]
نَعَمْ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ هَدْياً فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَجُوزُ أَنْ يَكُونَ نَاقِصاً[2].
Hadith.3059 - Ali ibn Ja'far asked his brother Imam Musa ibn Jafar Al-Kadhim (as) about a man who purchases a sacrificial animal that is one-eyed, but he only realizes it after buying it. Does it suffice for him? Imam (as) replied: "Yes, unless it is for a hady (sacrificial offering for Hajj), for it is not permissible
لَا بَأْسَ أَنْ يُضَحَّى بِهَا[3].
Hadith.3060 - Abu Ja'far (as) was asked about an old animal whose front teeth have fallen out. Is it permissible for sacrifice? Imam (as) replied: "There is no harm in sacrificing it."
وَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ ع لَا يُضَحَّى عَمَّنْ فِي الْبَطْنِ[4].
Hadith.3061 – Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) said: "A sacrifice is not performed on behalf of one who is in the womb."
«إِذَا كَانَ اَلْقَرْنُ اَلدَّاخِلُ صَحِيحاً فَهِيَ تُجْزِي ».
Hadith.3062 - Jameel narrated from Abu Abdullah (as) regarding a sacrificial animal whose horn is broken. Imam (as) said: "If the inner horn is intact, it suffices."
وَ رُوِيَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ[2] قَالَ كُنَّا بِمَكَّةَ فَأَصَابَنَا غَلَاءٌ فِي الْأَضَاحِيِّ فَاشْتَرَيْنَا بِدِينَارٍ ثُمَّ بِدِينَارَيْنِ ثُمَّ بَلَغَتْ سَبْعَةً ثُمَّ لَمْ نَجِدْ بِقَلِيلٍ وَ لَا كَثِيرٍ فَوَقَّعَ هِشَامٌ الْمُكَارِي إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع بِذَلِكَ فَوَقَّعَ إِلَيْهِ انْظُرُوا الثَّمَنَ الْأَوَّلَ وَ الثَّانِيَ وَ الثَّالِثَ فَاجْمَعُوهُ ثُمَّ تَصَدَّقُوا بِمِثْلِ ثُلُثِهِ[3].
Hadith.3063 - It is narrated from Abdullah ibn Umar: "We were in Mecca, and the prices of sacrificial animals increased. We bought for one dinar, then for two dinars, and then it reached seven dinars, and after that, we could not find any—neither for a little nor a lot. Hisham al-Mukari wrote to Abu al-Hasan (as) about
لَا يُضَحَّى بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الدَّوَاجِنِ[4]
«نَعَمْ إِنَّمَا لَهُ مَا نَوَى.
Hadith.3065 - Ali ibn Ja'far asked his brother Imam Musa ibn Jafar Al-Kadhim (as) about a sacrificial animal: if the one slaughtering it mistakenly mentions a name other than its owner, does it suffice for the owner of the sacrifice? Imam (as) replied: "Yes, it is for the one who intended it."
وَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ ع إِذَا اشْتَرَى الرَّجُلُ الْبَدَنَةَ عَجْفَاءَ فَلَا تُجْزِي عَنْهُ وَ إِنِ اشْتَرَاهَا سَمِينَةً فَوَجَدَهَا عَجْفَاءَ أَجْزَأَتْ عَنْهُ وَ فِي هَدْيِ الْمُتَمَتِّعِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ[1].
Hadith.3066 - Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) said: "If a man purchases a sacrificial camel that is emaciated, it does not suffice for him. But if he purchases it while it is fat and then finds it to be emaciated, it suffices for him. The same applies to the hady of a Mutamatti' (performing Hajj Tamattu')."
أَمَّا فِي الْهَدْيِ فَلَا وَ أَمَّا فِي الْأَضْحَى فَنَعَمْ وَ يُجْزِي الْهَدْيُ عَنِ الْأُضْحِيَّةِ[2].
Hadith.3067 - Muhammad al-Halabi asked Abu Abdullah (as) about a group of people—does a cow suffice for them? Imam (as) replied: "As for the hady (sacrificial offering for Hajj), no. But as for the sacrifice (Udhiyah), yes. And the hady suffices in place of the sacrifice."
أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَمَّنِ اشْتَرَى شَاةً وَ لَمْ يُعَرِّفْ بِهَا فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ عَرَّفَ بِهَا- أَوْ لَمْ يُعَرِّفْ بِهَا[1].
I asked Abu Abdullah (as) about someone who buys a sheep but does not announce it (as a sacrifice). Imam (as) replied: "There is no harm whether he announces it or does not announce it."
