لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَدْ عَرَفْتَ‌ حَالِي وَ سَعَةَ يَدِي وَ تَوْسِيعِي عَلَى إِخْوَانِي فَأَصْحَبُ النَّفَرَ مِنْهُمْ فِي طَرِيقِ مَكَّةَ فَأُوَسِّعُ عَلَيْهِمْ قَالَ لَا تَفْعَلْ يَا شِهَابُ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ بَسَطْتَ وَ بَسَطُوا أَجْحَفْتَ بِهِمْ‌[1] وَ إِنْ هُمْ أَمْسَكُوا أَذْلَلْتَهُمْ فَاصْحَبْ نُظَرَاءَكَ اصْحَبْ نُظَرَاءَكَ‌[2].

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَا مِنْ نَفَقَةٍ أَحَبَّ إِلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ نَفَقَةِ قَصْدٍ وَ يُبْغِضُ الْإِسْرَافَ إِلَّا فِي حَجٍّ أَوْ عُمْرَةٍ[7].

The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings of Allah (swt) be upon him and his family) said: "There is no spending more beloved to Allah (swt) than moderate spending. He dislikes extravagance, except in Hajj or Umrah."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ زَادُ الْمُسَافِرِ الْحُدَاءُ وَ الشِّعْرُ مَا كَانَ مِنْهُ لَيْسَ فِيهِ خَناً[1].

Hadith.2447 - Al-Sakuni narrated with his chain of transmission that the Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings of Allah (swt) be upon him and his family) said: "The provision of the traveller is chanting and poetry, as long as it contains nothing immoral."

لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّ مَعِي أَهْلِي وَ أَنَا أُرِيدُ الْحَجَّ فَأَشُدُّ نَفَقَتِي فِي حَقْوَيَّ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَإِنَّ أَبِي ع كَانَ يَقُولُ مِنْ قُوَّةِ الْمُسَافِرِ حِفْظُ نَفَقَتِهِ‌[2].

I said to Abu Abdullah (as), "I am traveling for Hajj with my family, and I secure my expenses by tying them around my waist." Imam (as) said: "Yes, for my father (as) used to say: 'Part of the strength of a traveller is safeguarding their expenses.'"

لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع تَكُونُ مَعِيَ الدَّرَاهِمُ فِيهَا تَمَاثِيلُ وَ أَنَا مُحْرِمٌ فَأَجْعَلُهَا فِي هِمْيَانِي وَ أَشُدُّهُ فِي وَسَطِي قَالَ لَا بَأْسَ أَ وَ لَيْسَ هِيَ نَفَقَتَكَ وَ عَلَيْهَا اعْتِمَادُكَ بَعْدَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ.

I said to Abu Abdullah (as), "I have coins with images on them while I am in a state of Ihram. I place them in my belt and tie it around my waist. Is this permissible?" Imam (as) said: "There is no problem with that. Are they not your expenses upon which you rely after Allah (swt), the Mighty and Glorious?"

انْزِعُوا هَذِهِ وَ اجْعَلُوا مَكَانَهَا حَدِيداً فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَقْرَبُ شَيْئاً مِمَّا فِيهَا شَيْ‌ءٌ مِنَ الْهَوَامِّ.

The righteous servant (of Allah (swt)), Abu al-Hasan Imam Musa ibn Jafar Al-Kadhim (as), looked at a provision container with brass rings and said: "Remove these and replace them with iron, for nothing harmful will approach anything contained within it."

وَ فِي خَبَرٍ آخَرَ قَالَ الصَّادِقُ ع‌ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ قَوْماً إِذَا زَارُوا الْحُسَيْنَ ع حَمَلُوا مَعَهُمُ السُّفْرَةَ فِيهَا الْجِدَاءُ وَ الْأَخْبِصَةُ[3] وَ أَشْبَاهُهُ لَوْ زَارُوا قُبُورَ أَحِبَّائِهِمْ مَا حَمَلُوا مَعَهُمْ هَذَا.

وَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ع‌ إِذَا سَافَرَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ لِلْحَجِّ أَوِ الْعُمْرَةِ تَزَوَّدَ مِنْ أَطْيَبِ الزَّادِ مِنَ اللَّوْزِ وَ السُّكَّرِ وَ السَّوِيقِ الْمُحَمَّضِ وَ الْمُحَلَّى.

Hadith.2455 - Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn (as) used to prepare the finest provisions when traveling to Mecca for Hajj or Umrah. His provisions included almonds, sugar, and flavored or sweetened barley flour (sawiq).

وَ قَالَ لُقْمَانُ لِابْنِهِ‌ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنَّ الدُّنْيَا بَحْرٌ عَمِيقٌ وَ قَدْ هَلَكَ فِيهَا عَالَمٌ كَثِيرٌ فَاجْعَلْ سَفِينَتَكَ فِيهَا الْإِيمَانَ بِاللَّهِ وَ اجْعَلْ شِرَاعَهَا التَّوَكُّلَ عَلَى اللَّهِ‌[1] وَ اجْعَلْ زَادَكَ فِيهَا تَقْوَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فَإِنْ نَجَوْتَ فَبِرَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ وَ إِنْ هَلَكْتَ فَبِذُنُوبِكَ.

Abu Abdullah (as) was asked about the words of Allah (swt), the Exalted: "And [due] to Allah (swt) from the people is a pilgrimage to the House – for whoever is able to find thereto a way."
