You have maintained relations whilst the people have cut-off, and you loved whilst the people hated (you), and you recognised whilst the people denied, and it is the ‘الْحَقُّ’ Just. الْحِجَامَةُ فِي الرَّأْسِ هِيَ الْمُغِيثَةُ تَنْفَعُ مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ إِلَّا السَّامَ‌[3] وَ شَبَرَ مِنَ الْحَاجِبَيْنِ إِلَى حَيْثُ بَلَغَ إِبْهَامُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَاهُنَا[4].

Abu Abdullah (asws) having said: ‘The cupping in the head is beneficial from every illness except for the death, and ‘Shibr’ (the length of an extended palm) from both the eyebrows to where his thumb reaches’ (centre of the head). Then said: ‘Like here’.

مَنِ اشْتَكَى الْوَاهِنَةَ أَوْ كَانَ بِهِ صُدَاعٌ أَوْ غَمْرَةُ بَوْلٍ‌[2] فَلْيَضَعْ يَدَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ الْمَوْضِعِ وَ لْيَقُلْ اسْكُنْ سَكَّنْتُكَ بِالَّذِي سَكَنَ لَهُ مَا فِي اللَّيْلِ وَ النَّهارِ وَ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ‌.

اشْتَكَى غُلَامٌ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُ فَقِيلَ إِنَّهُ بِهِ طُحَالًا[5] فَقَالَ‌ أَطْعِمُوهُ الْكُرَّاثَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ فَأَطْعَمْنَاهُ إِيَّاهُ‌[1] فَقَعَدَ الدَّمُ ثُمَّ بَرَأَ.

Once a boy complained to Abu Al-Hassan (asws), so he (asws) asked about him, so they told him (asws) that the boy had the spleen trouble. So he (asws) said: ‘Feed him leek for three days’. So we fed it to him, he excreted blood, then was free (cured)’.

شَكَا رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع السُّعَالَ وَ أَنَا حَاضِرٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ خُذْ فِي رَاحَتِكَ شَيْئاً مِنْ كَاشِمٍ‌[4] وَ مِثْلَهُ مِنْ سُكَّرٍ فَاسْتَفَّهُ يَوْماً أَوْ يَوْمَيْنِ قَالَ ابْنُ أُذَيْنَةَ فَلَقِيتُ الرَّجُلَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ مَا فَعَلْتُهُ إِلَّا مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً حَتَّى ذَهَبَ.

I said to Abu Abdullah (asws), ‘I am a man from the Arabs and I have medicine for vision, and my medicine is the Arabic medicine, and I do not take gifts for it’. He (asws) said: ‘There is no problem’. I said, ‘I let the wound bleed and burn it by the fire’. He (asws) said: ‘There is no problem’. I said, ‘And my prescr

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلِ ع فَرَآنِي أَتَأَوَّهُ فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ قُلْتُ ضِرْسِي فَقَالَ لَوِ احْتَجَمْتَ‌[5] فَاحْتَجَمْتُ فَسَكَنَ فَأَعْلَمْتُهُ فَقَالَ لِي مَا تَدَاوَى النَّاسُ بِشَيْ‌ءٍ خَيْرٍ مِنْ مَصَّةِ دَمٍ أَمْ مُزْعَةِ عَسَلٍ‌[6] قَالَ قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ مَا الْمُزْعَةُ عَسَلٍ [عَسَلًا] قَالَ لَعْقَةُ عَسَلٍ‌[7].

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى ع يَقُولُ‌ دَوَاءُ الضِّرْسِ تَأْخُذُ حَنْظَلَةً فَتُقَشِّرُهَا ثُمَّ تَسْتَخْرِجُ دُهْنَهَا فَإِنْ كَانَ الضِّرْسُ مَأْكُولًا مُنْحَفِراً تُقَطِّرُ فِيهِ قَطَرَاتٍ وَ تَجْعَلُ مِنْهُ فِي قُطْنَةٍ شَيْئاً وَ تَجْعَلُ فِي جَوْفِ الضِّرْسِ وَ يَنَامُ صَاحِبُهُ مُسْتَلْقِياً يَأْخُذُهُ ثَلَاثَ لَيَالٍ فَإِنْ كَانَ الضِّرْسُ لَا أَكْلَ فِيهِ وَ كَانَتْ رِيحاً قَطِّرْ فِي الْأُذُنِ الَّتِي

‘To cure the toothache, take colocynth (a bitter fruit), peel it, then extracts its oil. So if the tooth has a cavity, apply the drops by cotton, place it inside the cavity and lie down upon the back. He should do this for three nights. So he (asws) said: ‘But, the People (asws) of the Household, we (asws) do not stay away except from the dates, and we (asws) cure by the apple and the cold water’. I said, ‘And why do you (asws) keep away from the dates?’
