Among the Concise Words of the Messenger of Allah (peace Be Upon him)

يَا أَبَا هَاشِمٍ أَيُّ نِعَمِ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تُؤَدِّيَ شُكْرَهَا قَالَ أَبُو هَاشِمٍ فَوَجَمْتُ‌[4] فَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا أَقُولُ لَهُ فَابْتَدَأَنِي ع فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ رَزَقَكَ الْإِيمَانَ فَحَرَّمَ بِهِ بَدَنَكَ عَلَى النَّارِ وَ رَزَقَكَ الْعَافِيَةَ فَأَعَانَكَ عَلَى الطَّاعَةِ وَ رَزَقَكَ الْقُنُوعَ فَصَانَكَ عَنِ التَّبَذُّلِ‌[5] يَا أَبَا هَاشِمٍ إِنَّمَا ابْتَدَأْتُكَ بِهَذَا ل

Hadith.5863 - It is narrated from Abu Hashim Al-Jafari that he said: "I was afflicted with severe hardship, so I went to Abu Al-Hasan Imam Ali ibn Muhammad Al-Hadi (as), peace be upon him. I sought permission to enter, and he granted me permission. When I sat down, Imam (as) said: 'O' Abu Hashim, which of Allah's (swt)

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الصَّادِقِ ع يَقُولُ‌ الْعَامِلُ عَلَى غَيْرِ بَصِيرَةٍ كَالسَّائِرِ عَلَى غَيْرِ الطَّرِيقِ فَلَا تَزِيدُهُ‌ سُرْعَةُ السَّيْرِ مِنَ الطَّرِيقِ إِلَّا بُعْداً[1].

"I heard Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as), peace be upon him, say: 'One who acts without insight is like a traveler walking off the path. The faster he moves, the farther he becomes from the correct way.'"

وَ قَالَ الصَّادِقُ ع‌[2] النَّوْمُ رَاحَةٌ لِلْجَسَدِ وَ النُّطْقُ رَاحَةٌ لِلرُّوحِ وَ السُّكُوتُ رَاحَةٌ لِلْعَقْلِ‌[3].

Hadith.5865 - Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as), peace be upon him, said: "Sleep is rest for the body, speech is rest for the soul, and silence is rest for the mind."

قَالَ الصَّادِقُ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ع‌ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ وَاعِظٌ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ وَ زَاجِرٌ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ قَرِينٌ مُرْشِدٌ اسْتَمْكَنَ عَدُوُّهُ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ‌[4].

Hadith.5866 - Muhammad ibn Sinan narrated from Al-Mufaddal ibn Umar, who said that Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as), peace be upon him, said: "Whoever does not have an inner advisor from his heart, a restrainer from his own soul, and a guiding companion, his enemy will easily gain control over him."

حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ع‌ إِنَّ عِيَالَ الرَّجُلِ أُسَرَاؤُهُ فَمَنْ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ نِعْمَةً فَلْيُوَسِّعْ عَلَى أُسَرَائِهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ أَوْشَكَ أَنْ تَزُولَ تِلْكَ النِّعْمَةُ.

Hadith.5867 - Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Malik Al-Fazari Al-Kufi narrated from Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Sahl, from Said ibn Muhammad, from Masadah, who said that Abu Al-Hasan Imam Musa ibn Jafar Al-Kadhim (as), peace be upon them, said: "Indeed, a man's family are his captives. So whoever Allah (swt) blesses with a bounty

لِلصَّادِقِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ع أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ هَذَا الْقَوْلِ قَوْلُ مَنْ هُوَ أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْإِيمَانَ وَ التَّقْوَى وَ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ عَاقِبَةِ الْأُمُورِ إِنَّ أَشْرَفَ الْحَدِيثِ ذِكْرُ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَ رَأْسَ الْحِكْمَةِ طَاعَتُهُ وَ أَصْدَقَ الْقَوْلِ وَ أَبْلَغَ الْمَوْعِظَةِ وَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ كِتَابُ اللَّهِ وَ أَوْثَقَ الْعُرَى الْإِيمَانُ بِاللَّهِ وَ خَيْرَ الْمِلَلِ مِلَّ

I asked Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as): "Inform me about this statement, whose words are: 'I ask Allah (swt) for faith and piety, and I seek refuge in Allah (swt) from the evil consequences of matters. Indeed, the most honorable speech is the remembrance of Allah (swt), the Exalted, and the pinnacle

وَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌[5] قَالَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ أَيُّمَا عَبْدٍ أَطَاعَنِي- لَمْ أَكِلْهُ إِلَى غَيْرِي وَ أَيُّمَا عَبْدٍ عَصَانِي وَكَلْتُهُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ ثُمَّ لَمْ أُبَالِ فِي أَيِّ وَادٍ هَلَكَ.

Hadith.5869 - Messenger of Allah (swt), peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said: "Allah (swt), the Glorified and Exalted, said: 'Whoever of My (swt) servants obeys Me (swt), I will not entrust him to anyone other than Myself (swt). And whoever disobeys Me (swt), I will leave him to himself, and I will not

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْبَاقِرُ ع‌ مَنْ كَانَ ظَاهِرُهُ أَرْجَحَ مِنْ بَاطِنِهِ خَفَّ مِيزَانُهُ‌[1].

"I heard Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as), say that Abu Jafar Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as), said: 'Whoever's outward appearance outweighs his inward self, his scale (of deeds) will be light.'" 5871 5871 - وَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ : "قَالَ اَللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَل

قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِذَا عَصَانِي مِنْ خَلْقِي مَنْ يَعْرِفُنِي سَلَّطْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ خَلْقِي مَنْ لَا يَعْرِفُنِي[2]

قَالَ الصَّادِقُ ع‌ يَا إِسْحَاقُ صَانِعِ الْمُنَافِقَ بِلِسَانِكَ وَ أَخْلِصْ وُدَّكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ وَ إِنْ جَالَسَكَ يَهُودِيٌّ فَأَحْسِنْ مُجَالَسَتَهُ.

Hadith.5872 - Ibn Abi Umayr narrated from Ishaq ibn Ammar, who said that Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as), peace be upon him, said: "O' Ishaq, be courteous to the hypocrite with your speech, but keep your sincere affection for the believer. And if a Jew sits with you, then treat him with good companio

أَصْبَحْتُ وَ لِيَ رَبٌّ فَوْقِي وَ النَّارُ أَمَامِي وَ الْمَوْتُ يَطْلُبُنِي وَ الْحِسَابُ مُحْدِقٌ بِي وَ أَنَا مُرْتَهَنٌ بِعَمَلِي لَا أَجِدُ مَا أُحِبُّ وَ لَا أَدْفَعُ مَا أَكْرَهُ وَ الْأُمُورُ بِيَدِ غَيْرِي فَإِنْ شَاءَ عَذَّبَنِي وَ إِنْ شَاءَ عَفَا عَنِّي فَأَيُّ فَقِيرٍ أَفْقَرُ مِنِّي‌[3].

الرَّجُلُ لِسَلْمَانَ مَنْ أَنْتَ وَ مَا أَنْتَ فَقَالَ سَلْمَانُ أَمَّا أَوَّلِي وَ أَوَّلُكَ فَنُطْفَةٌ قَذِرَةٌ وَ أَمَّا آخِرِي وَ آخِرُكَ فَجِيفَةٌ مُنْتِنَةٌ فَإِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ نُصِبَتِ الْمَوَازِينُ فَمَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَهُوَ الْكَرِيمُ وَ مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَهُوَ اللَّئِيمُ.

Hadith.5874 - Al-Mufaddal narrated from Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as), that he said: "A dispute occurred between Salman Al-Farsi, may Allah (swt) have mercy on him, and a man. The man said to Salman: 'Who are you, and what are you?' Salman replied: 'As for my beginning and yours, it is a unclean drop of fluid,

يَقُولُ بَلِيَّةُ النَّاسِ عَلَيْنَا عَظِيمَةٌ إِنْ دَعَوْنَاهُمْ لَمْ يُجِيبُونَا وَ إِنْ تَرَكْنَاهُمْ لَمْ يَهْتَدُوا بِغَيْرِنَا[1]

وَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌[2] جُمِعَ الْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي ثَلَاثِ خِصَالٍ النَّظَرِ وَ السُّكُوتِ وَ الْكَلَامِ فَكُلُّ نَظَرٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ اعْتِبَارٌ فَهُوَ سَهْوٌ[3] وَ كُلُّ كَلَامٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ ذِكْرٌ فَهُوَ لَغْوٌ وَ كُلُّ سُكُوتٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ فِكْرَةٌ فَهُوَ غَفْلَةٌ[4] فَطُوبَى لِمَنْ كَانَ نَظَرُهُ عَبَراً وَ سُكُوتُهُ فِكْراً وَ كَلَامُهُ ذِكْراً وَ بَكَى عَلَى خَطِيئَتِهِ وَ أَمِنَ النَّاسُ شَرَّهُ

Hadith.5876 - Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) said: "All goodness has been gathered in three qualities: looking, silence, and speech. Every glance that lacks reflection is heedlessness, every speech without the remembrance (of Allah (swt)) is idle talk, and every silence without contemplation is n

وَ قَالَ الصَّادِقُ ع‌[5] أَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَى آدَمَ ع يَا آدَمُ إِنِّي أَجْمَعُ‌[6] لَكَ الْخَيْرَ كُلَّهُ فِي أَرْبَعِ كَلِمَاتٍ وَاحِدَةٌ لِي وَ وَاحِدٌ لَكَ وَ وَاحِدَةٌ فِيمَا بَيْنِي وَ بَيْنَكَ وَ وَاحِدَةٌ فِيمَا بَيْنَكَ وَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَأَمَّا الَّتِي لِي فَتَعْبُدُنِي وَ لَا تُشْرِكُ بِي شَيْئاً وَ أَمَّا الَّتِي لَكَ فَأُجَازِيكَ بِعَمَلِكَ أَحْوَجَ مَا تَكُونُ إِلَيْهِ‌[7] وَ أَمَّا ا

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ كَلِمَتَانِ غَرِيبَتَانِ فَاحْتَمِلُوهُمَا كَلِمَةُ حِكْمَةٍ مِنْ سَفِيهٍ فَاقْبَلُوهَا وَ كَلِمَةُ سَفَهٍ مِنْ حَكِيمٍ فَاغْفِرُوهَا[2].

Hadith.5879 - Al-Sakuni narrated from Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) from his father, Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as), from his forefathers, peace be upon them, that the Messenger of Allah (swt), peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said: "Two words are strange, so bear them patiently: A word of w

فِي خُطْبَةٍ خَطَبَهَا بَعْدَ مَوْتِ النَّبِيِّ ص‌[3] أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّهُ لَا شَرَفَ أَعْلَى مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ وَ لَا كَرَمَ أَعَزُّ مِنَ التَّقْوَى وَ لَا مَعْقِلَ أَحْرَزُ مِنَ الْوَرَعِ وَ لَا شَفِيعَ أَنْجَحُ مِنَ التَّوْبَةِ وَ لَا كَنْزَ أَنْفَعُ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ وَ لَا عِزَّ أَرْفَعُ مِنَ الْحِلْمِ وَ لَا حَسَبَ أَبْلَغُ مِنَ الْأَدَبِ‌[4] وَ لَا نَصَبَ أَوْضَعُ مِنَ الْغَضَبِ وَ لَا جَمَالَ أَزْيَنُ مِنَ

Hadith.5880 - Amr ibn Shimr narrated from Jabir ibn Yazid Al-Ju'fi from Abu Jafar Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as) from his father from his grandfather, peace be upon them, that Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, said in a sermon he delivered after the death of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him

قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ : "ثَلاَثٌ أَخَافُهُنَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي مِنْ بَعْدِي اَلضَّلاَلَةُ بَعْدَ اَلْهُدَى وَ مَضَلاَّتُ اَلْفِتَنِ وَ شَهْوَةُ اَلْبَطْنِ وَ اَلْفَرْجِ".

Hadith.5881 - In the narration of Ismail ibn Muslim, the Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace be upon him and his family) said: "Three things I fear for my nation after me: deviation after guidance, misleading temptations, and the desires of the stomach and the private parts."

وَ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ بِقَوْمٍ يَتَشَاءَلُونَ حَجَراً فَقَالَ "مَا هَذَا وَ مَا يَدْعُوكُمْ إِلَيْهِ" قَالُوا لِنَعْرِفَ أَشَدَّنَا وَ أَقْوَانَا قَالَ "أَ فَلاَ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى أَشَدِّكُمْ وَ أَقْوَاكُمْ" قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ قَالَ "أَشَدُّكُمْ وَ أَقْوَاكُمُ اَلَّذِي إِذَا رَضِيَ لَمْ يُدْخِلْهُ رِضَاهُ فِي إِثْمٍ وَ لاَ بَاطِلٍ وَ إِذَا سَخِطَ لَمْ يُخْرِجْهُ س

Hadith.5882 - The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace be upon him and his family) passed by a group of people lifting a stone and said: "What is this and what drives you to do it?" They replied: "So we may know who among us is the strongest and most powerful." Prophet (sw) said: "Shall I not guide you to the strongest and

أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّادِقَ ع عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- وَ بِالْوالِدَيْنِ إِحْساناً مَا هَذَا الْإِحْسَانُ فَقَالَ الْإِحْسَانُ أَنْ تُحْسِنَ صُحْبَتَهُمَا وَ أَنْ لَا تُكَلِّفَهُمَا أَنْ يَسْأَلَاكَ شَيْئاً مِمَّا يَحْتَاجُونَ إِلَيْهِ وَ إِنْ كَانَا مُسْتَغْنِيَيْنِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَقُولُ- لَنْ تَنالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ‌[1]- ثُمَّ قَال

Hadith.5883 - Al-Hasan ibn Mahbub narrated from Abu Walad Al-Hannat that he asked Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) about the saying of Allah (swt), the Exalted: "And be good to parents." He asked: "What is this goodness (ihsan)?" Imam (as) replied: "Goodness is to treat them well in companionship and

قَالَ زَيْنُ الْعَابِدِينَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ع‌ أَلَا إِنَّ أَحَبَّكُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَحْسَنُكُمْ عَمَلًا وَ إِنَّ أَعْظَمَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ حَظّاً أَعْظَمُكُمْ فِيمَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ رَغْبَةً وَ إِنَّ أَنْجَى النَّاسِ مِنْ عَذَابِ اللَّهِ أَشَدُّهُمْ لِلَّهِ خَشْيَةً وَ إِنَّ أَقْرَبَكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ أَوْسَعُكُمْ خُلُقاً وَ إِنَّ أَرْضَاكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَسْبَغُكُمْ عَلَى عِيَالِهِ وَ إِن

لِبَعْضِ وُلْدِهِ‌ يَا بُنَيَّ إِيَّاكَ أَنْ يَرَاكَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي مَعْصِيَةٍ نَهَاكَ عَنْهَا وَ إِيَّاكَ أَنْ يَفْقِدَكَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عِنْدَ طَاعَةٍ أَمَرَكَ بِهَا وَ عَلَيْكَ بِالْجِدِّ وَ لَا تُخْرِجَنَّ نَفْسَكَ مِنَ التَّقْصِيرِ فِي عِبَادَةِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَا يُعْبَدُ حَقَّ عِبَادَتِهِ وَ إِيَّاكَ وَ الْمِزَاحَ‌[3] فَإِنَّهُ يَذْهَبُ بِنُورِ إِيمَانِكَ وَ يَسْتَخِفُّ بِ

Hadith.5885 - Al-Hasan ibn Mahbub narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Khalaf, from Abu Al-Hasan Imam Musa ibn Jafar Al-Kadhim (as) that Imam (as) said to one of his sons: "My son, beware that Allah (swt), the Mighty and Majestic, sees you committing a sin He (swt) has forbidden you from. And beware that Allah (swt), the Exalted

وَ رَوَى عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنِ الصَّادِقِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ع قَالَ‌ الدُّنْيَا طَالِبَةٌ وَ مَطْلُوبَةٌ فَمَنْ طَلَبَ الدُّنْيَا طَلَبَهُ الْمَوْتُ حَتَّى يُخْرِجَهُ مِنْهَا[1] وَ مَنْ طَلَبَ الْآخِرَةَ طَلَبَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا حَتَّى تُوَفِّيَهُ رِزْقَهُ.

"The world is both a seeker and one being sought. Whoever seeks the world, death will pursue him until it removes him from it. And whoever seeks Hereafter, the world will pursue him until it delivers his sustenance to him."

حَسْبُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مِنَ اللَّهِ نُصْرَةً أَنْ يَرَى عَدُوَّهُ يَعْمَلُ بِمَعَاصِي اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ[2]

وَ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ص‌[3] بَادِرُوا إِلَى رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ مَا رِيَاضُ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ حَلَقُ الذِّكْرِ[4].

Hadith.5888 - The Prophet of Allah (swt), peace be upon him and his family, said: "Hasten towards the gardens of Paradise." They asked: "O' Messenger of Allah (swt), what are the gardens of Paradise?" Prophet (sw) replied: "The gatherings of remembrance (of Allah (swt))."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لِعَلِيٍّ ع‌ يَا عَلِيُّ لَا تُشَاوِرَنَّ جَبَاناً فَإِنَّهُ يُضَيِّقُ عَلَيْكَ الْمَخْرَجَ وَ لَا تُشَاوِرَنَّ بَخِيلًا فَإِنَّهُ يَقْصُرُ بِكَ عَنْ غَايَتِك وَ لَا تُشَاوِرَنَّ حَرِيصاً فَإِنَّهُ يُزَيِّنُ لَكَ شَرَهاً وَ اعْلَمْ أَنَّ الْجُبْنَ وَ الْبُخْلَ وَ الْحِرْصَ غَرِيزَةٌ يَجْمَعُهَا سُوءُ الظَّنِّ.

Hadith.5889 - Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (swt), peace be upon him and his family, said to him: "O' Ali (as), do not consult a coward, for he will restrict you from finding a solution. Do not consult a miser, for he will hinder you from reaching your goal. And do not consult a greed

سَمِعْتُ الصَّادِقَ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ ع يَقُولُ‌ مَنْ أَخْرَجَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مِنْ ذُلِّ الْمَعَاصِي إِلَى عِزِّ التَّقْوَى أَغْنَاهُ اللَّهُ بِلَا مَالٍ وَ أَعَزَّهُ بِلَا عَشِيرَةٍ وَ آنَسَهُ بِلَا أَنِيسٍ وَ مَنْ خَافَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَخَافَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ كُلَّ شَيْ‌ءٍ وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَخَفِ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَخَافَهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ وَ مَنْ رَضِيَ مِنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ

Hadith.5890 - Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said: "Whoever Allah (swt), the Almighty and Majestic, brings out from the humiliation of sins to the honor of piety, Allah (swt) enriches him without wealth, honors him without a tribe, and comforts him without a companion. قَالَ لِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع‌ لَمَّا حَضَرَتْ أَبِي ع الْوَفَاةُ ضَمَّنِي إِلَى صَدْرِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ اصْبِرْ عَلَى الْحَقِّ وَ إِنْ كَانَ مُرّاً يُوَفَّ إِلَيْكَ أَجْرُكَ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ.

Hadith.5891 - Abu Hamza Al-Thumali narrated that Abu Jafar Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as) said: "When death approached my father (as), he embraced me to his chest and said: 'O' my son, be patient upon the truth even if it is bitter, for your reward will be given to you without measure.'"

الصَّادِقُ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ع لِرَجُلٍ اجْعَلْ قَلْبَكَ قَرِيناً تُزَاوِلُهُ‌[2] وَ اجْعَلْ عِلْمَكَ وَالِداً تَتَّبِعُهُ وَ اجْعَلْ نَفْسَكَ عَدُوّاً تُجَاهِدُهُ وَ اجْعَلْ مَالَكَ كَعَارِيَّةٍ تَرُدُّهَا.

Hadith.5892 - Ibn Muskan narrated from Abdullah ibn Abi Ya'fur that Ja'far ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said to a man: "Make your heart a companion you engage with, make your knowledge a guide you follow, make your soul an enemy you struggle against, and consider your wealth as a loan that you will return."

وَ قَالَ ع‌ جَاهِدْ هَوَاكَ كَمَا تُجَاهِدُ عَدُوَّكَ.

Hadith.5893 - Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said: "Struggle against your desires just as you struggle against your enemy."

عَلِّمْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ شَيْئاً فَقَالَ ع عَلَيْكَ بِالْيَأْسِ مِمَّا فِي أَيْدِي النَّاسِ فَإِنَّهُ الْغِنَى الْحَاضِرُ قَالَ زِدْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِيَّاكَ وَ الطَّمَعَ فَإِنَّهُ الْفَقْرُ الْحَاضِرُ قَالَ زِدْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِذَا هَمَمْتَ بِأَمْرٍ فَتَدَبَّرْ عَاقِبَتَهُ فَإِنْ يَكُ خَيْراً أَوْ رُشْداً اتَّبَعْتَهُ وَ إِنْ يَكُ شَرّاً أَوْ غَيّاً تَرَكْتَهُ.

'A man came to the Messenger of Allah (swt), peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and said: "Teach me something, O' Messenger of Allah (swt)." Prophet (sw) said: "You must renounce what is in the hands of people, for it is immediate wealth." The man said: "Increase me (in knowledge), O' Messenger of Allah (s

قَالَ الصَّادِقُ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ع‌ مَنْ خَلَا بِذَنْبٍ فَرَاقَبَ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى ذِكْرُهُ فِيهِ‌[1] وَ اسْتَحْيَا مِنَ الْحَفَظَةِ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَهُ جَمِيعَ ذُنُوبِهِ وَ إِنْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ ذُنُوبِ الثَّقَلَيْنِ.

Abu Abdullah (as), said: "Whoever commits a sin in private and then fears Allah (swt), exalted be His (swt) mention, regarding it, and feels ashamed before the recording angels; Allah (swt), the Majestic, will forgive all his sins, even if they are as numerous as the sins of the two weighty beings (humankind and jinn).

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْكُوفِيُّ الْبَزَّازُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ- عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ع قَالَ‌ مَنْ مَاتَ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ‌[2] بَعْدَ زَوَالِ الشَّمْسِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَقْتَ الزَّوَالِ وَ كَانَ مُؤْمِناً أَعَاذَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ

"Whoever dies on Thursday after the sun has passed its zenith until the time of the sun's zenith on Friday, and was a believer, Allah (swt), the Majestic, will protect him from the squeezing of the grave and accept his intercession for people as numerous as the tribes of Rabiah and Mudar. وَ سُئِلَ الصَّادِقُ ع‌ مَا حَدُّ حُسْنِ الْخُلُقِ قَالَ تُلِينُ جَانِبَكَ وَ تُطِيبُ كَلَامَكَ وَ تَلْقَى أَخَاكَ بِبِشْرٍ حَسَنٍ.

Hadith.5897 - Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) was asked: "What is the definition of good character?" Imam (as) replied: "It is to be gentle in your behaviour, speak kindly, and meet your brother with a cheerful face."

وَ سُئِلَ ع‌ مَا حَدُّ السَّخَاءِ قَالَ تُخْرِجُ مِنْ مَالِكَ الْحَقَّ الَّذِي أَوْجَبَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَلَيْكَ فَتَضَعُهُ فِي مَوْضِعِهِ‌[1].

Hadith.5898 - Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) was asked: "What is the definition of generosity?" Imam (as) replied: "It is to give from your wealth the rightful dues that Allah (swt), the Almighty, has obligated upon you, and to place it in its appropriate place."

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ أَنْفِقْ وَ أَيْقِنْ بِالْخَلَفِ وَ اعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ مَنْ لَمْ يُنْفِقْ فِي طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ ابْتُلِيَ بِأَنْ يُنْفِقَ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ‌[2] وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَمْشِ فِي حَاجَةِ وَلِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْتُلِيَ بِأَنْ يَمْشِيَ فِي حَاجَةِ عَدُوِّ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ.

I heard Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) say: "Spend (in the way of Allah (swt)) and be certain of the replacement. Know that whoever does not spend in obedience to Allah (swt) will be tested by spending in disobedience to Allah (swt), the Almighty. And whoever does not walk to fulfill the need of a f

الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ أُهْدِيَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص بَغْلَةٌ أَهْدَاهَا لَهُ كِسْرَى أَوْ قَيْصَرُ فَرَكِبَهَا النَّبِيُّ ص بِجُلٍّ مِنْ شَعْرٍ وَ أَرْدَفَنِي خَلْفَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي يَا غُلَامُ احْفَظِ اللَّهَ يَحْفَظْكَ‌[3] وَ احْفَظِ اللَّهَ تَجِدْهُ أَمَامَكَ- تَعَرَّفْ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي الرَّخَاءِ- يَعْرِفْكَ فِي الشِّدَّةِ[1] إِذَا سَأَلْتَ فَاسْأَلِ اللَّهَ وَ إِذَا اسْتَعَنْتَ فَاسْتَع

قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ : "إِذَا وَقَعَ اَلْوَلَدُ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ صَارَ وَجْهُهُ قِبَلَ ظَهْرِ أُمِّهِ إِنْ كَانَ ذَكَراً وَ إِنْ كَانَتْ أُنْثَى صَارَ وَجْهُهَا قِبَلَ بَطْنِ أُمِّهَا وَ يَدَاهُ عَلَى وَجْنَتَيْهِ وَ ذَقَنُهُ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ كَهَيْئَةِ اَلْحَزِينِ اَلْمَهْمُومِ فَهُوَ كَالْمَصْرُورِ مَنُوطٌ بِمِعَاءٍ مِنْ سُرَّتِهِ إِلَى سُرَّةِ أُمِّهِ فَبِتِلْكَ اَلسُّرَّةِ

سَمِعْتُ مَوْلاَيَ أَمِيرَ اَلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ يَقُولُ : "إِنَّا أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ لاَ نَشْرَبُ اَلْمُسْكِرَ وَ لاَ نَأْكُلُ اَلْجِرِّيَّ وَ لاَ نَمْسَحُ عَلَى اَلْخُفَّيْنِ فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْ شِيعَتِنَا فَلْيَقْتَدِ بِنَا وَ لْيَسْتَنَّ بِسُنَّتِنَا".

"I heard my master, the Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as), say: 'Indeed, we are the Ahlul Bayt who do not drink intoxicants, do not eat catfish, and do not wipe over leather socks (in ablution). So whoever is from our Shia should follow our example and adhere to our Sunnah.'"

وَ رَوَى حَمَّادُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الصَّادِقِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ع قَالَ‌ فِي حِكْمَةِ آلِ دَاوُدَ يَنْبَغِي لِلْعَاقِلِ أَنْ يَكُونَ مُقْبِلًا عَلَى شَأْنِهِ‌[2] حَافِظاً لِلِسَانِهِ عَارِفاً بِأَهْلِ زَمَانِهِ.

"In the wisdom of the family of Dawud (as), it is fitting for a wise person to be focused on his own affairs, to safeguard his tongue, and to be aware of the people of his time."

وَ رَوَى صَفْوَانُ بْنُ يَحْيَى وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ بَكْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنِ الصَّادِقِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ع قَالَ‌ الصَّنِيعَةُ[3] لَا تَكُونُ صَنِيعَةً إِلَّا عِنْدَ ذِي حَسَبٍ أَوْ دِينٍ الصَّلَاةُ قُرْبَانُ كُلِّ تَقِيٍ‌[4] الْحَجُّ جِهَادُ كُلِّ ضَعِيفٍ لِكُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ زَكَاةٌ وَ زَكَاةُ الْجَسَدِ الصِّيَامُ جِهَادُ الْمَرْأَةِ حُسْنُ التَّبَعُّلِ اسْتَنْزِلُوا الرِّزْقَ بِال

Hadith.5904 - Safwan ibn Yahya and Muhammad ibn Abi Umayr narrated from Musa ibn Bakr, from Zurara, who reported from Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) that he said: "A favor is only truly a favor when it is done for someone with noble lineage or faith. Prayer is the means of closeness for every pious person. Hajj

إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى قَسَمَ بَيْنَكُمْ أَخْلَاقَكُمْ كَمَا قَسَمَ بَيْنَكُمْ أَرْزَاقَكُمْ

يَا آدَمُ إِنِّي أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُخَيِّرَكَ وَاحِدَةً مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ فَاخْتَرْ وَاحِدَةً وَ دَعْ اثْنَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ لَهُ وَ مَا تِلْكَ الثَّلَاثُ قَالَ الْعَقْلُ وَ الْحَيَاءُ وَ الدِّينُ فَقَالَ آدَمُ ع فَإِنِّي قَدِ اخْتَرْتُ الْعَقْلَ فَقَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع لِلْحَيَاءِ وَ الدِّينِ انْصَرِفَا وَ دَعَاهُ فَقَالا يَا جَبْرَئِيلُ إِنَّا أُمِرْنَا أَنْ نَكُونَ مَعَ الْعَقْلِ حَيْثُ كَانَ قَالَ فَشَأْنَكُمَا وَ عَرَجَ‌[1].

"Jibril (as) descended upon Adam (as) and said: 'O' Adam, I have been commanded to offer you a choice among three things, so choose one and leave the other two.' Adam (as) asked: 'What are those three things?' Jibril (as) replied: 'Intellect, modesty, and religion.' Adam (as) said: 'I choose intellect.' So Jibril (as)

وَ رَوَى أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الصَّادِقِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ع قَالَ‌ أَرْبَعٌ يَذْهَبْنَ ضَيَاعاً مَوَدَّةٌ تُمْنَحُ مَنْ لَا وَفَاءَ لَهُ وَ مَعْرُوفٌ يُوضَعُ عِنْدَ مَنْ لَا يَشْكُرُهُ وَ عِلْمٌ يُعَلَّمُ مَنْ لَا يَسْتَمِعُ لَهُ وَ سِرٌّ يُودَعُ مَنْ لَا حَضَانَةَ لَهُ.

"Four things are wasted in vain: Affection granted to one who has no loyalty, A favor bestowed upon one who does not appreciate it, Knowledge taught to one who does not listen, And a secret entrusted to one who has no sense of safeguarding."

وَ قَالَ الصَّادِقُ ع‌[2] إِنَّ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى بِقَاعاً تُسَمَّى الْمُنْتَقِمَةَ فَإِذَا أَعْطَى اللَّهُ عَبْداً مَالًا لَمْ يُخْرِجْ حَقَّ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مِنْهُ سَلَّطَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ بُقْعَةً مِنْ تِلْكَ الْبِقَاعِ فَأَتْلَفَ ذَلِكَ الْمَالَ فِيهَا ثُمَّ مَاتَ وَ تَرَكَهَا.

Hadith.5908 - Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said: "Indeed, Allah (swt), the Blessed and Exalted, has lands called Al-Muntaqimah (The Avenger). When Allah (swt) grants a servant wealth and he does not give Allah's (swt) rightful due from it, Allah (swt) assigns to him a portion of those lands where

مَنْ لَمْ يُبَالِ مَا قَالَ وَ مَا قِيلَ فِيهِ فَهُوَ شِرْكُ شَيْطَانٍ وَ مَنْ لَمْ يُبَالِ أَنْ يَرَاهُ النَّاسُ مُسِيئاً فَهُوَ شِرْكُ شَيْطَانٍ وَ مَنِ اغْتَابَ أَخَاهُ الْمُؤْمِنَ مِنْ غَيْرِ تِرَةٍ بَيْنَهُمَا[3] فَهُوَ شِرْكُ شَيْطَانٍ وَ مَنْ شُغِفَ بِمَحَبَّةِ الْحَرَامِ وَ شَهْوَةِ الزِّنَا فَهُوَ شِرْكُ شَيْطَانٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ ع لِوَلَدِ الزِّنَا عَلَامَاتٌ أَحَدُهَا بُغْضُنَا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَ ثَانِيهَا أَ

وَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ مَنْ رَضِيَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَا يُجْزِيهِ كَانَ أَيْسَرُ الَّذِي فِيهَا يَكْفِيهِ وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَرْضَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَا يُجْزِيهِ لَمْ يَكُنْ شَيْ‌ءٌ فِيهَا يَكْفِيهِ.

Hadith.5910 - Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) said: "Whoever is content with what suffices him from this world, the least of what is in it will be enough for him. And whoever is not content with what suffices him from this world, nothing in it will ever be enough for him."

وَ رَوَى إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ عَنِ الصَّادِقِ ع أَنَّهُ قَالَ‌ تَنْزِلُ الْمَعُونَةُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ عَلَى قَدْرِ الْمَئُونَةِ.

Hadith.5911 - Ishaq ibn Ammar narrated from Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) that he said: "Assistance descends from the heavens in proportion to responsibility."

قَالَ الصَّادِقُ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ع‌ إِنَّ فِيمَا نَزَلَ بِهِ الْوَحْيُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ يَسِيلَانِ ذَهَباً وَ فِضَّةً لَابْتَغَى إِلَيْهِمَا ثَالِثاً يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ إِنَّمَا بَطْنُكَ بَحْرٌ مِنَ الْبُحُورِ وَ وَادٍ مِنَ الْأَوْدِيَةِ لَا يَمْلَأُهُ شَيْ‌ءٌ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ.
